Top 100 Hits of 2015

↓「中国は法治国家なのか」の記事で用いた図。【１】欧米など近代国家【２】文化大革命など政治が全てを塗りつぶした、かつての中国【３】改革開放により、政治主導ながらも徐々に他の分野が充実しつつある、今の中国。

この年末、従軍慰安婦問題が遂に解決、という大きなニュースが流れた。しかしこれは一見明るい話題のようで、実は中国や韓国が【２】から【３】へ向かい、逆に日本は【１】から【３】へ、政官財＝鉄の三角が全てをコントロールする、悪夢的近未来へ向かう中で起きるべくして起きた、暗い話題なのかも。

安倍首相が元慰安婦たちに面会して「済まなかった」と頭を下げれば済む、というのはシロウト考えだろうか。政治家は、常にそうではなく、政治家だけで決めたがる。自分たちは長期政権になるという自信があるから、官僚がレールを敷いて外相同士で会談し、間接的に曖昧な謝罪をすれば、後は知りませんよ、韓国政府が慰安婦たちを説得して、二度と蒸し返さないでくださいよ、というのはいかにも非民主的なやり方に思われ、逆にわが国の汚名を永久にすすげなくしてしまわないか心配だ。

はまだァ～～あうとォ～～～

年末の風物詩。しかし本当の意味でアウトなのは、浜田雅功がお笑いの一環として森三中・村上さんの胸を揉んだりする様子が茶の間に流れ、オアシズ・大久保さんがそれを「ひどいことだ」と指摘するまで、無感覚でいられた、私やあなた、関わった全ての人びとだ。

インターネットも似たようなもの。

少部数の同人誌を作り、ピクシブやツイッターなどの反響から、このくらい売れる筈、のように予想すると、必ずしっぺ返しに遭う。予想どおり売れることはまずない。

ネット越しの反響など蜃気楼のようなものに過ぎない。

政治やメディアは全ての人の暮らしに広く薄く関わってくる。逃げられない。

が、彼らが責任を取ってくれるわけではない。自分の人生は自分で決めるしかない。ことしの100曲。27位のヴェルーカ・ソルト、74位のザ・チルズ、これまでも1曲か2曲しか聞いてなく、それもずっと昔のことだったベテランが再浮上したり。

でも彼らはずっと生きてきた。私の人生と交わるのは1度か2度でも、これからもお互い生きてゆく。

よい音楽は人権や民主主義の教科書。自由で、人生をより良くする。

↑の図で文化と政治が隣接していないのに気付かれよう。政治や経済で自由が過度に追及されると、必ず悪い結果を招く。音楽もまたメディアの寵児として、ときに悪いものに姿を変える。

2年連続で日本人の音楽は圏外に。来年もこの流れが続き、現政権の思惑どおり、わが国はかつてのような個人が軽んじられる国家主義に回帰するのか、音楽を愛する視点から監視し、異議申し立てしてゆきたい―

いつかは、ここを出て、愛を迎えに行かなくては―

1960年代、カリフォルニア。夏とサーフィンの歌が連続ヒットし、ザ・ビーチ・ボーイズは人気の頂点にあった。が、新たな音を求めてスタジオで曲作りに専念するブライアン・ウィルソンと、ツアーで演奏するメンバーたちの間に亀裂が入り、さらには威圧的な父との確執も深まって、ブライアンはドラッグに逃避するように。心血を注いだアルバムPET SOUNDSの不振をシングルGood Vibrationsで挽回するも、芸術的な期待が掛かる新作へのプレッシャーから心が完全に折れてしまい、アルバムSMILEはお蔵入り。

それから20余年、彼に再び希望の光をもたらしたのは、美しく聡明な女性メリンダとの出会いだった。しかし、惹かれ合う二人の間に、ブライアンのすべてを管理する精神科医ユージンが立ちはだかる。メリンダの協力のもと、遂にブライアンは自分の本当の歌を取り戻すために立ち上がるのだが──。

誕生から半世紀を経た今も、時代を超えて愛され続けている名曲を生み出したザ・ビーチ・ボーイズの中心的存在ブライアン・ウィルソン。だが、それらの曲を作っていた時、ブライアン自身は苦悩に引き裂かれ、精神状態は極限に達していた。何がそこまで彼を追いつめたのか？　ブライアン・ウィルソンの衝撃の半生が、本人公認により初の映画化。

監督は、『それでも夜は明ける』のプロデューサー、ビル・ポーラッド。60年代のブライアンをポール・ダノ、80年代のブライアンをジョン・キューザックと、異なる二つの時代を二人一役で描くという大胆なアイデアで、ブライアン・ウィルソンの苦悩と救済に迫る。




アメリカ人の手になる、音楽家の伝記映画には外れがない。
筈だったが、ことし見た3本は、

ジャージー・ボーイズ（フランキー・ヴァリとフォー・シーズンズ）＞ジェームス・ブラウン＞ラブ＆マーシー

という感じで、音楽は申し分ないとしても、映画としての出来にバラつきがあり、2時間でお話としてまとめなければならない映画の制約を痛感した次第である。

「小説」や「政治」の延長上のような、身も蓋もない下世話な様式＝映画。
それに対し音楽は、あらゆるものから独立し、高貴である。
人や言葉は裏切るが、音楽は裏切らない。望む限り、いつも同じところにいてくれる。

長く生きたからといって、音楽により近づけたという実感もなく、子どもの頃も、初老の今も、音楽との関係は変わらない、ある意味、私にとって神のようなものだが、音楽の世界には、明らかに神から選ばれ、お近づきになったというような人物がたまにいる。

ことしの映画のフランキー・ヴァリであり、ジェームズ・ブラウンであり、ブライアン・ウィルソンである。




イーストウッドが題材としたフランキー・ヴァリは、この中では穏健な人物で、音楽も親しみやすいポップスだ。が、残る2人は、いずれも神がかり的な人物で、共に親との関係に問題を抱えている。母親が手放し、孤児同然で育ったジェームズ・ブラウンは、ダイナミックだが悲痛なところもある音楽を作り、ビジネス面も全てコントロールしようと強烈な父権として君臨するタイプの人物であった。

それに対しブライアン・ウィルソンは、スパルタ教育を施しウィルソン3兄弟をスターの座へ導くも、一転ブライアンの天才に嫉妬し、彼を抑圧しようとする父親から始まって、ビーチ・ボーイズの営業面のリーダーであるマイク・ラヴ、そして前妻マリリンとバンドが精神面ボロボロのブライアンを管理させようと雇った精神科医ユージーン・ランディ、この3人の暴君に振り回され、なかなか心の安らぎが得られず、それもまた彼の無垢で美しい音楽につながるような、いわば悲劇の天才だったろう。

ランディ医師は、150キロ以上に太ってドラッグ漬けだったブライアンを24時間監視し、健康を回復させるも、やがてカリフォルニア州の医師の倫理規範に反してビジネス面でもブライアンを洗脳し、彼の復帰により得られる利益の独占を図ったとして、新しい恋人のメリンダやバンド側から提訴されることに（↑写真は、健康回復しソロ・アルバム制作にあたっていた頃の左ブライアンと右ランディ医師）




ランディ医師、映画ではこんな感じ。
ヤバイ奴に単純化されているのだが、ブライアンがそんなヤバイ医師を必要とするまで追い詰められた60年代末～70年代の苦闘の時期もひどく省略されてしまっている。名盤PET SOUNDSや幻のSMILEについてもとおりいっぺんの描写だ。

萩原健太、中山康樹、村上春樹、あるいはSMILEや、やはりお蔵入りとなった2ndソロSWEET INSANITYをめぐるあまたの海賊盤業者、ブライアン・ウィルソンの音楽に一家言を持ち、金の成る木のようにして彼に関わろうとする者は数限りないが、ランディ医師は、曲りなりにも彼の肉体的健康を回復させ、80年代以降の彼の曲としては最高のLove and Mercyを生み出させるに至ったのである。もって瞑すべし―

Goth Pop Playlist

SLANTというサイトの記事「ことしのシングル25選」で、アダム・ランバートなる米シンガーのGhost Town (12)という曲がgoth-popなる紹介をされており、聞いてみると、ちょっとエンニオ・モリコーネの映画音楽風の、口笛が流れてくるようなアレンジの施された曲で、私の脳裏に閃いたのだった。

ゴス・ポップというジャンル・価値観によって、ロック草創期から最新曲までよしあしを判定しうるような、統一理論になりはしないかと―




ゴシック転じてゴスと呼ばれるようになったサブカルチャーの例。左：英国出身で日本を拠点に活動する画家トレバー・ブラウン（Trevor Brown）、右：イタリア出身の写真家でデビッド・ボウイやビョークのビデオも監督しており、特にマリリン・マンソンのThe Beautiful Peopleがゴス・カルチャーを一目瞭然にまとめている好例として名高いフローリア・シジスモンディ（Floria Sigismondi）それぞれの作品


晩年のジョニー・キャッシュがナイン・インチ・ネイルズやディペッシュ・モードらの曲をカバーして評判となったが、生きながらにして既に死んでいるような、また逆に死後も彼は生きているように響く音楽であった。

ジャンルとしては80年代のポスト・パンク期にザ・キュア、ディペッシュ・モード、スージー＆ザ・バンシーズなどが米チャートでも知られる存在となって花開いた感があるが、生の欲求が強すぎて、逆に死に近づくような、生と死の同居した退廃的な魅力はロック音楽が出発点から既に宿していたもので、このくくりで紹介したい曲は下記の40曲ではとうてい収まらない。

中国は法治国家なのか

第7回ORISセミナー「中国の現在（いま）を語る」＠12月11日・早稲田大
【講演者】毛里和子（早稲田大学名誉教授）、小口彦太（早稲田大学法学学術院教授）

「グローバル中国との付き合い方」との演題で毛里氏、「中国法の現在（いま）を語る」との演題で小口氏が語る2時間ほどのセミナー。書店では「中国脅威論」、また逆に「大崩壊」など山積みになっているものの、眉唾本だらけなこともあり、中国の実像を知りたいという関心の高さで、平日16～18時という時間帯ながら場内は満席。




タルコット・パーソンズの「構造・機能」の学説で社会全体のあり方を図式化。【１】欧米諸国のような近代社会【２】共産中国成立からしばらく、文化大革命など政治（階級闘争）一色に塗りつぶされた【３】トウ小平の改革開放により、政治主導ながらも、次第に近代化されつつある今の中国


小口氏によれば、中国で法律や裁判制度の整備は遅れに遅れた。国民党が打倒されてからも、国民党による不満足な裁判制度をしばらく踏襲せざるをえないほどで、混乱が続いた。刑法と刑事訴訟法が施行されたのは、建国から30年後の1979年であった。

現在、グローバルな輸出大国となり、民法についてはわが国の民法より先進的な部分もできるなどしているが、依然として人権や民主主義といった近代的な見地からは不満足な状態が続いている。例えば、わが国の都教組ストライキ事件の最高裁判決では、「職務の公共性にかんがみ、争議行為を禁止する」地方公務員法と、「国民の労働基本権を尊重する」憲法のそれぞれ相矛盾する要請を、「憲法の精神からいって、争議行為禁止違反に対する制裁、特に刑事罰による制裁は、極力限定されるべき」という判例を定着させて融和を図った。しかし中国の「民主と法制」記者による誹謗罪事件では、「報道記者はすべての公民と同様に、憲法と法律が規定する権利を行使する時は、同じく規定する義務も履行しなければならない。すなわち国家・社会・集団の利益を侵害してはならない」との有罪判決により、個人の権利より社会秩序を優先する姿勢を明確にした。

すなわち、安倍首相の暴走により多くの人の知るところになった「立憲主義＝憲法が国家権力を縛る」とは、そもそもヨーロッパの封建社会が近代社会に変わるにあたって根本理念となっていったもので、古代王朝から独特の中央集権的官僚制を発達させてきた中国では、いまだ官僚（行政権）が個人に優越し、法治国家の意味は「法による支配」ではなく「法による統治」に他ならない、と。

この、行政・政治の優越に変化が起こったのが、トウ小平の唱えた「先富論」。「豊かになる条件を持った一部の地区・企業の人びとが先に豊かになってよい」という命題は、それまで禁じられた経済的自由を承認し、欲望を解放するものであった。これを突破口として、経済だけでなく、社会や文化の領域も部分的自由がもたらされたのである。

以下、毛里氏。
改革開放路線が成功し、中国が豊かになるにつれ、1990年代後半から利益集団の形成が顕著になった。【１】中央政府の官僚【２】地方政府の官僚【３】国有独占企業・地方重要企業の高官【４】多国籍資本の国内代理人（洋買弁）【５】土地不動産開発業者【６】大型民営企業（実業と金融）【７】それぞれの集団にくっついている専門家・学者。

そして、人民解放軍。利益集団や軍が外交に口を出すようになり、南シナ海など海洋強国路線・新シルクロード（一帯一路）構想・アジアインフラ開発銀行といった、周辺諸国との摩擦・懐柔両面を折り込んでの、米国と並ぶ超大国を目指す姿勢を露骨にしている。

この超大国路線に対し、わが国は先の安保法やTPPなど、米国追従を強めることで対抗しようとしているが、今後の日中関係はどうなってゆくのか。
そもそも1972年、日中国交正常化がなされたのも、頭越しの米中和解の動きに対応したもので、戦争問題処理（カイロ宣言やサンフランシスコ講和条約には共産中国は不参加）について思い切った決断がみられなかった。すなわち、中国側の賠償請求権放棄（日清戦争で巨額の賠償金を払ったにもかかわらず）と、台湾に代え中国を承認という、取り引き。

これは中国が「圧倒的政治優位」にあった時代ゆえに許されたことで、いずれ豊かになった国民が「民間の請求権は消滅していない」と騒ぎ出すのは目に見えている。2012年、何方・元日本研究所長は「日本の対外侵略を民族の犯罪と見なさず、階級闘争の観点から、ごく少数の軍国主義分子にだけ罪を着せ、とくに日本人民をわれわれと同じ被害者と見なしたこと。これは是非を混淆したもの。中国に攻め寄せて強奪し、欺瞞し、蹂躙した日本兵と中国の人民を一緒に論ずることなどできるわけがない」と自己批判。（これは軍事政権だった韓国にも共通する問題）

日中の間には、【１】利益（領土・領海問題、経済問題）【２】パワーバランス（日米同盟、地域リーダーシップ、国連常任理事国）【３】歴史問題（歴史認識、戦後補償、双方のナショナリズム）と、懸案が三層構造で横たわっている―

「音楽と高慢」の記事を考えた当初、そこで扱ったジャズ、さらにプログレ、そしてそれら特権視されがちな音楽もムード音楽になりうるんですよという結び、の3回シリーズを予定していたのだが、プログレのリスナー層がジャンルにのめり込み、聞くだけで誇大妄想的な忘我境に浸れる、一つの鍵としてメロトロンという楽器に焦点を絞ろうと考え、選曲するうち、どうも主旨と違うなと感じ始め、いったんジャズだけでまとめることに。




メロトロンの語源となっているメロウという形容詞を、私がメランコリーやメロドラマといった言葉と混同し、情緒的・感傷的な意味で捉えていたため、それがプログレッシヴ＝進歩的・実験的、と矛盾するのではないかという論旨が、メロウの本来の意味は「柔らかな・芳醇な」とのことで破綻を来してしまい。浅墓でしたね―




メロトロンは1960年代に英国で開発された、鍵盤と連動して磁器テープが再生されることで、独特のくぐもった夢幻的なサウンドを作ることができる楽器。実験的な音作りに取り組むミュージシャンが多く用い、ブリティッシュ・ロックの黄金時代に一役買うことに。高価な楽器ながら、モーターが非力なため音程をコントロールしづらいなど難点があり、疎んじるミュージシャンも少なくなく（苛立ってステージから蹴落として破壊した逸話も残る）、シンセサイザー類の発展に伴いレアな存在となっていった。

下記リスト初期にはシングル・ヒットが目立ち、用いたのは必ずしもプログレと見なされるミュージシャンばかりでなかったが、やはり代表例は2曲ずつ選んでいるムーディー・ブルースとキング・クリムゾン、さらにジェネシス、イエスといった英国のプログレ勢だ。

ムーディー・ブルースのマイク・ピンダーは「Mrメロトロン」と称されるほどこの楽器の操作に熟練していたという。またクリムゾンの74年のTrio (16) はヴァイオリン、ベース、メロトロンから成る三重奏で、この楽器の夢幻的な儚い音色が最大限活かされた名曲として、私は高1時（1980）に知って現在まで並び立つものがない。

キング・クリムゾンのテンションの高い演奏と、メロディアスな抒情味の同居は、このジャンルの頂点といえるものだったが、クリムゾンのロバート・フリップは81年の再結成当時に「初期の情緒性の強い曲は無垢な若者に悪影響を与えかねない」と述べており、実際、その後のプログレの中核を成したのはラッシュ、ジェネシス（フィル・コリンズ期）といった、ウェットさを排した演奏や構成美を聞かせるバンドとなってゆき、メロトロンが象徴するような70年代のプログレは過去の遺物となってしまったのである―
