映画予告編音楽を手掛けるImmediate musicの看板ユニット5年ぶりのニューアルバム。相変わらずのハリウッド系・大混声合唱ポップスを展開。前作もリリースから大分立ってから人気が爆発したけど、ライブのヒットに味を占めたのか、歌謡曲っぽくなってるのが多い印象。

Anworth Kirk. 'Avonwaith' forms a cats cradle of recondite fake-loric references to Early Freemasonry, Egyptology, drug abuse and sound poetry, observing found fragments of sonic pulp fiction and draping them in a framework of non-musical elements such as basic magnetic communication, secular religion and primitive mechanical industry.

アーティスティックでエクスペリメンタルなミュージック・コンクレートを製作、LP限定リリースで入手困難なことからカルトな支持を得ているAnworth Kirkの新作が500枚限定コピーで登場。

悪夢・狂気・恍惚...耽美で退廃的な形容を詰め込んだ『音の廃墟』のような作品。最近は"Folklore"を模した"Fake-lore"というジャンルで呼ばれているようで、J.P. Massieraのサイケデリックなモンドミュージックや、チェコ映画音楽界の巨匠Zdenek Liskaのシュールな作風を合成したようなものと評価されています。

iPad2の導入で最も効率化したのは、iTunes Uでの学習プログラムを流しながら、Macでの作業が並行出来るようになったこと。これは時間運用の価値向上がかなり大きいです。iTunes Uも最近は映像資料がかなり増えてきたし、もっと専門向けの学術コンテンツが出て来ても良い頃。

　


iTunes Uでの最近のオススメはOSUやNGAがリリースしている幹細胞研究プログラム"STEM Educatuin"や、"Mathmatics"特集。TOPでも紹介されてるけど、講義内容がドキュメンタリータッチでとても丁寧に纏められています。o(^▽^)o



□ iTunesUで配信開始されたmath104: Trigonometry（球面三角法）の講義をおさらい中。こういう計算機の発達で重要性が薄れている分野こそ押さえておきたい。


□ iPad上でiTunesコンテンツへのリンクをコピーが出来ないのが不満。『友達に教える』にしても、メールフォームにアイコンが出て来てしまい、リンクを参照できない。


□ SafariからPDFをiPadホーム画面に追加した時に、例えば研究論文の書類であれば、著作者や公開機関のオフィシャルなアイコンが生成されるのはサプライズでした。また、アイコンからPDFを開いた場合、メニューから『iBooksに追加』を選択できます。

Safariからホーム画面に追加したPDFにアイコンが設定される要領で、iBooksライブラリのPDFにも表紙が設定出来れば良いなぁ。一ページめから文字の羅列だけだと遠目に判別し辛かったり(´ε｀ )


□ iPad上の写真プレビューでピンチ操作での回転が行えないのは不便。iPhoneでは気にならなかったけど、iPadの画面では必要だと思う。※『画面ロック』をつかいましょう。


□ iPad仕様の公式Twitterクライアントも快適。一画面でタイムライン、ツイート、リンク先の記事参照がスムーズに行える。本でページをめくる要領でスペース調整出来るのも良い( ´ ▽ ` )


□ iPad2の最大ガッカリポイントは1Mpixelに見たないショボカメラ。確かにタブレットPCでの需要は限られてるかもしれないけど、編集アプリがiPad上で扱える以上は転送の手間を省くために欲しかった。。


□ iPad2で動画をみた場合と、アプリその他諸々で稼働し続けた場合でバッテリの減りに大差ない気がする。寧ろ動画再生中に思ったほどバッテリ使用してない気がする。HTML5が凄いというよりFlashの怖さが知れる（；゜０゜）

だから、あえて言えば「全ての公的資金による研究は成果発表時に全てオープンアクセスオプションを購入すること（その分の予算を初めから計上しておくこと）」とルール化するのは一つの案だと思う。キャッシュフローは生まれるし、納税者は成果を無料で見ることができる。

ポーランド出身の最若手Jazz Trioでありながら、今やECMレーベルのJazzマーケットを牽引するほどの評価と知名度をものにした新進気鋭Marcin Wasilewskiの、怜悧で研ぎ澄まされた空気の漂う一枚。




元々ポーランドでは"Simple Acoustic Trio"として、Tomasz Stankoをはじめとする偉大なパフォーマーのバックの演奏を着実にこなしキャリア積み上げる。その縁もあってECM代表のManfred Eicherに見初められ、2005年には彼らの名声を決定的なものにしたアルバム、"Trio"を発表。2008にMarcin Wasilewski名義をトリオに冠した"January"をリリース。この"Faithful"は同名儀での二枚目、ECMからは通算3枚目のトリオ作品となる。




前2作品では、ECMカラーのサイレントで染み入るような音色と構成が、何処かアイヒャーの存在と影響力を匂わせてまで、このトリオの静謐で透き通った結晶の佇まいを完成させていたのだけれど、"Faithful"に至って漸く、厳しい冬の雪解けから、四季の表情豊かなポーランドの風土を匂わせる瑞々しい薫りを纏って、まるで深々と降り積もる雪が、躍動感に溢れ降り注ぐ雨粒のリズムを刻みながら、そして波打つ如くたゆたうピアニズムを描き出している。



ECMというレーベルの作品を表現するとき、いつも言葉が茫洋に放り出されたような、或は散り散りになった文字の断片に溺れていくような気分に陥り、呆然と立ち尽くすことがある。それらは、特にECMのセレクトは常に『音楽言語』に取って代えられない純粋なメッセージの一次的形容に他ならず、それ自体が翻訳不可能な発話事象であるからだ。


このアルバムも、単なるピアノジャズという括りを超えた、音楽を「演奏すること」に対する真摯で透徹した美学が貫かれた、まさに"Faithful (信念)"を体現する作品であり、ここに引用されたO.コールマンをはじめとる金科玉条のスタンダードを織り交ぜた奔流の中に『自己』を置き、しっかりとその器に塞き止めながら、磨き抜かれた鏡のように、その水面に皓々と先人のテキストとノウハウを湛えている。




ハンス・アイスラー作曲の"An den kleinen Radioapparat”は、後にStingによってアレンジされた“The Secret Marriage”として有名になった歴史的佳曲。しかしMarcinは、当時ブレヒトとアイスラーが込めた政治・社会的思想を色濃く残した形で再解釈を施しているのだそう。


最初のオリジナル曲である"Night Train To You"では、特徴的なコードとループの組み合わせで『静と動』を表現した作品。楽曲は駅に近づくにつれてテンポを緩め、最期のセクションでは初期の主題に基づいたインプロヴィゼーションが展開される。




表題曲"Faithful"は、Marcin Wasilewski Trio結成のルーツとなり、三人のジャズに対する共通のインスピレーションとなOrnette Colemanの1966年のアルバム、 “The Empty Foxhole”から。


最も面白いのが、トリオによる新作"Mosaic"。『流動し、断片化されたコードが一枚の大きなモザイク画を描き出す』とあるように、連綿と紡がれる音のピースが径時的に構築されていくことによって、そのシンタックスにおける立体的な構造が明らかになっていくというもの。和音やパートごとの連続性の至る所に断層があり、降り積もる乖乱と齟齬の境界が、俯瞰において調和した輪郭を縁取っていく。




同国ポーランドの女性シンガーソングライターで、彼らと親交の深いEdyta Bartosiewczによってタイトルされたという“Woke up in the Desert”も、このトリオの先進性を裏付ける白眉の一曲。シンバルやスネアの『うねり』は、砂漠に這う蛇の動きをイメージしてるという。


この「信念の川」を渡る旅の終着点は"Lugano Lake"。アルバムレコーディングが行われたイタリア、ルガーノ湖に位置するオーディトリウムに因んで作曲されたもの。




ジャズといえば、腰を据えられる雰囲気の場所で落ち着きながら流し聴くことが多いかもしれないが、透き通った輝きと躍動感を併せ持つ本作は、ドライブなどのアウトドアユースにもピッタリ。これから来る憂鬱な雨の季節においても、そのしっとりとしたムードの中に心躍らせるイメージを喚起する、必携の一枚になることは間違いない。

とても美しい文章。「知識を使役する」 テクノロジーと、それに対する批判の普遍性。かつてプラトンは現代と全く同じ論調で「文字」の普及を批判していたという内容。

古代の「文字への批判」と現代の知識提供技術への批判を全く同列で語ることは出来ないけれど、両者に共通する構造的普遍性は「持つ者」と「持たざる者」との権力ゲームの軋轢にあるのかもしれない。また、知識体系の基幹を担保するのは、開発過程でインプラントされる学術水準の保証そのものにある。


「知恵のブラックボックス化」は、あらゆるレベルで発生する。だけどそれがテクノロジーの水準を押し下げるかといえば全く逆で、寧ろ知恵のアーカイブを担保する技術こそが、疎隔・細分化する知識体系のバンドギャップを補う要になるのだ。

The ultimate proof of our understanding of natural or technological systems is reflected in our ability to control them. Although control theory offers mathematical tools for steering engineered and natural systems towards a desired state, a framework to control complex self-organized systems is lacking.

Here we develop analytical tools to study the controllability of an arbitrary complex directed network, identifying the set of driver nodes with time-dependent control that can guide the system’s entire dynamics.

ポーランド発、グレゴリオ聖歌風エレクトロポップ・ユニット、"Mistic"のThird Album。

2004年に発足したこのプロジェクトは、EdelよりリリースされていたFrank Petersonの"Gregorian"シリーズに『公式に』インスパイアされたものとして、当初はShania Twainを始めとする世界的ヒットソングや、ポーランド国内の音楽アーティストの曲をカヴァーすることで人気を博したという。



三作目にして完全なオリジナル・アルバムとして楽曲を手がけるにあたり、全ての歌詞はラテン語で構成されており、彼らが手本としたGregorianの源流を遡り、ENIGMA以降ヨーロッパの音楽文化として根強く支持され続けている"Gregorian Pops"の支流に至ることになった。


1990年代以降、聖歌風コーラスにプログラミング・ビートを重ねる趣向は、玉石混淆の数多の作品において試みられて来た。その中でもLesiemやE Nomineといった、ヨーロッパを中心にカルト的な人気を集めるグループも誕生したが、その多くは特定ジャンルのオリジネイターとなるには至らず、どちらかというとニューエイジの一界隈における「既知の音楽スタイルの共有」の域を出ないまま消息を断ってきた。



Misticは、グレゴリオ聖歌とPopsのクロスオーバーにおけるアレンジの難しさについて『選曲の適切さ』を一つに挙げている。古典リズムとホモフォニーが、現代的リリックへトランスクリプトされる際の齟齬。おそらくは、このような楽曲が今ひとつ普及しきれない理由として大きな部分を占めており、この欠陥は、同様の手法が用いられた膨大な楽曲を『チープ』に貶めている阻害要因として見受けられるものである。


Misticの中心人物であり、プロデューサー兼SEであるSimon Woodsは、90年代初頭から多くのクラシック・アルバムに関わって来た古典音楽のプロフェッショナルであり、そのような「不自然さ」に注意を払う嗅覚は優れているのかもしれない。


実際、"Glorifica"におけるラテン・コーラスの運用は、この上なく楽曲に調和したもので、最新のソフトシンセを多用したエレクトロニックなバックグラウンドに溶け込んでいる。90年代～世紀末にかけて、希有なオリジネイター達に手がけられ、どこか厭世的で壮大な響きを放っていたグレゴリアン・ビートの当時の閃きを、今に蘇らせようという気概さえ感じられる。


ただし、現代的な曲想に対し、コーラスラインが余りに隙なく展開されているため、コーラス自体が「聖歌」である前に、『歌謡曲』と化してしまっているように聴こえる。


1990年、ENIGMAの"McMXC a.D."によって齎された『グレゴリアン・ビート』のインパクトとは、神聖不可侵でありながら禁忌の官能を併せ持つ聖歌と、より衝動的かつテクノロジーの象徴でありえた打ち込みビートの躍動感との核衝突のようなものだった。

敢えて言えば、聖歌風ポップスの源流には『アンバランスの美しさ』こそがあったはずなのだ。反面、"Glorifica"は良く調和した『古典的』グレゴリアン系作品と言える。しかし一方でグレゴリアンは、聖歌風のアレンジによって、大衆音楽の底流に息づくシャーマニズムや普遍性を引き出そうとしたプロジェクトであった。そこにはまだ、時代に拮抗するアンバランスの美学が反映されていた。



この2011年、Misticについて、特定リスナー層に向けた商機的な視点を抜きにして評価するとすれば、現代の高度複雑化する『ソーシャル』の中にあり、疎隔化が進行する音楽マーケットにおいて、より広く大衆に共有されている古き良き伝統音楽のフォーマットを現代音楽にインプラントし続けることにより、限られた地域・ジャンル間に蔓延する、ある種の閉塞感を越えた、新たなグローバル・ミュージックへの可能性の土壌を肥やしていることにあるのかもしれない。

a systematic search within the archives of six major US and UK tobacco companies (American Tobacco, Philip Morris, RJ Reynolds, Lorillard, Brown & Williamson and British American Tobacco) that were Defendants in tobacco litigation settled in 1998.

Findings are dated from 1949 to 1999. Results: The documents revealed the strategies planned and used by the industry to enhance effects of smoking on weight and appetite, mostly by chemical modifications of cigarettes contents. Appetite-suppressant molecules, such as tartaric acid and 2-acetylpyridine were added to some cigarettes.

日本では全く報道されていない気がする。酒石酸と2-アセチルピリジンを意図的に添加。タバコで「痩せる」イメージ戦略に。内部資料によると、1949-1999年の間に食欲抑制剤をタバコに無表記で添加しつづけたことが示されている。重要なのは、それを中止したという記録もなく、直近のデータが提出されたわけでもないとのこと。

日本のタバコ会社が同じことをしているとは断定できないけど、「禁煙したら食欲が出てしょうがない」なんて話は幾らでも聞くよね。

フランス、スペクトル楽派の流れを汲む若手の急先鋒、Franck Bedrossianの作品集『Manifesto』。アンサンブル2e2mによって紡がれる怜悧で凍てつくような音の凝集体が、無機的、ときに有機体を発生させるように、生温い幻夢の響きを奏でる。

録音はフランス、ジェヌヴィリエのコンセルヴァトワールにて行われた。



※ スペクトル音楽…「複雑な音響をオーケストラで再現するために、フーリエ変換による音響の解析、周波数変調を初めとするアナログ変調、内挿といった情報理論とその工学技術を駆使（Wikipedia:トリスタン・ミュライユの頁から抜粋）」する等といった、音響学的技術が実践された楽曲群を指す。



Franck Bedrossianは、スペクトル楽派を推進したGérard Griseyに師事。彼の楽曲はクラスター技法で評価されることが多いが、実際には19世紀に端を発する西洋の実験音楽史の系譜を集約した、もっと複合的かつ漸進させた手法が用いられ、"Saturation（飽和)"の音楽と名状されている。

2010年、フランス国立科学研究センター（CNRS)と社会科学高等研究院(EHESS)の合同会議により、こうした『サチュレーション』の定義が、「シミュルタネイスム（同一フレーム上における時間と空間の相互連関変化の記述）のプロセスと帰結の、豊穣な音楽表現」とされた。



本作のパフォーマーであり、世界中で実績を積み上げている現代音楽アンサンブル、 2e2mの為に書かれた"It"は、よりFree Jazzに歩み寄った作風でありながら、その音色はもっと重厚かつ繊細で、Franckが実験音楽の系譜を準えながら、あくまで「今の」作曲家であることを強烈に印象付けている。


楽器ごとの音色のディストーション（歪み）、ミューテーション（突然変異）で音の連続体を繰り込んでいく。ストリングスやホーンの響きは断続的にエネルギーの励起と発散を繰り返し、一般的な音楽構造によって与えられる筈のポテンシャル状態へと遷移することがない（情報はエネルギーの過渡状態である）。音場の散逸的な密度が、時間の流れ方そのものを不安的な曲率によって捩じ曲げているのである。



同様の技法はローマ・フランス・アカデミーに嘱託された"Tracés d'ombres"の、ラレンタンドからアッチェレランドへとオーガナイズされていく過程でも確認することが出来、その彩色はまさに『サチュレーション』を体現したものである。

フランスの現代作曲家であり、偉大な教育者でもあるFrédéric Durieuxに捧げられた表題曲"Manifesto"でも同様に、ラストパートに向け音色とテンポを変化させながら、コンパイルされた複雑性構造を自己開示していくという趣旨にも、高度に技術化された情報科学を扱う現代における、このサチュレーションという音楽技法の当世的な発想の必然性を垣間見られるだろう。



また、"La solitude du coureur de fond"と"Bossa Nova"で聴かれる通り、Bedrossianはサクソフォンやアコーディオンの音色それ自体を「電子変換的なもの」（事実、音という事象自体を電子レベルで捉えるならば…）として特別視しているが、"Propaganda"では、実際にSaxphoneの音色をエレクトロニクスと競演させ、人の手に依る器楽音と、電子音の多層的な織り重なりによる時間表現としての世代融合を可能にしている。




IRCAMによれば、Franck Bedrossianの方法論は後期ポスト・セリエルを代表するHelmut Lachenmannのパラメータ技法的な音響処理に加え、Griseyの方向性概念と高調波のプロセスを共生させているという。それは「 RothkoやPollockの抽象芸術、Bill Violaの時間遅延的テキスト、そしてBeckettの導く方程式に基づいた比率的表現」であるとし、現代に至って、より物理的な次元へアプローチしているとする。



事実、彼の楽曲は『演奏』というよりは、より『擬態的』で、概念的な構造を模しているように響く。特筆すべきはサクソフォンの音色。波打つような粒子の壁が、まるで楽器という形質を借りて顕現する有機体を紡ぐかの如く、観念上の空間でモーフィングを繰り返す視覚的なイメージを喚起する。


その固有振動によって生成される音色の境界面は、あたかも生物の骨格を擬えており、他の音色の境界に干渉・浸潤する。更にその時間発生プロセスを凝縮して、この仮想的な生命体の『背骨』を形作りながら、軸から分岐発達していく音の有機体の呼吸となり、「嘶き」となって、また一個の生命体である私たちの原初の本能を揺さぶるようだ。



私はかつてBerioの"Sinfonia"を、時空に閉ざされた結晶構造の共鳴と擬えたが、ここにあるのはもっと不確定性に満ち、絶えざる揺らぎを充溢させた存在の原理、自己結晶化の過程の本質に根ざしたものだと感じられる。
