How are you doing today?
さて、タイトルにもありますが、我が家のめいさん、昨年から通い始めた日本語補習校に加え、9月から現地のプリスクールにも通い始めました。
（日本でいう幼稚園？になるのかな。）
Just as the title says, May-chan started going to preschool in September besides Japanese school on Saturdays which she started going to last year.
色んなスケジュールがある中、我が家では、校区のプリスクールの午後のクラスに週4回、YMCAのアウトドアに特化したクラスに週2回通わせるスケジュールを組みました。
We could arrange the schedule from some different options and ended up making the schedule, 4 half day classes at the local school district and 2 half day outdoor classes at YMCA.
月曜日から木曜日まで、校区のプリスクールの午後のクラス、火曜日と木曜日がYMCAのアウトドアプリスクールの午前のクラスという時間割なので、火曜日と木曜日はプリスクールからプリスクールの梯子で、送迎係のHit-chanも大忙しです。
May-chan takes afternoon classes from Monday to Thursday at the local school and morning outdoor classes on Tuesday and Thursday at YMCA. So, we drive directly from YMCA to the local school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which has made me so busy giving May-chan a ride.
今ではもう慣れているプリスクールのルーティーンですが、まだまだ通い始めた頃の9月の様子を書いていきたいと思います。
Both May-chan and I are now used to the week routine, but today let me share how we started the new life style in September.
初登校のこの日、めいさんはすごくご機嫌さん。
On May-chan's first school day. She looked very excited.
日本語補習校に恐竜さんのバックパックを買ったんですが、もう一つ現地のプリスクール用にあった方が良いと思い、エルモのバックパックを購入。
We got her a new bag for the new classes besides the dinosaur backpack which we got for Japanese school. The new bag was Elmo's!
初日のこの日はHit-chanも初めてだったので、気合を入れて早く着きすぎ、始まるまで学校の前で時間を潰す事に。。。
May-chan's first day means Mommy's first day as well, so we got to school a little early and had to kill some time there.
めいも初めての事でワクワクしている様子でした。
Again, May-chan seemed so thrilled.
で、最初の見送りの時ですが、めいさん少し泣きました。
When I said goodbye on the first day, May-chan cried a little bit.
が、先生は慣れたもので、めいを抱き上げて学校に入って行ってくれました。
Needless to say, the teachers were so used to deal with crying kids and May-chan's teacher held her up and walked into the building.
学校が始まって何日かは、送る時と迎えに行く時に少し泣くという事を繰り返していましたが、話を聞くと授業の間は楽しく過ごしているそう。
For first some days, May-chan cried a little bit when I left her and picked up her, but her teacher told that she's having a good time in the class.
その後は全く問題なく、今ではむしろ学校に着くとマミーの方を振り向きもせず、大好きなミセス・Gに向かって走って行き、先生に「ママにバイバイして。」と言われて、やっと振り向くというくらいにマミーと離れる事を何とも思わなくなっています。(笑)
Now? May-chan really loves going to school and always runs to her favorite, Mrs. G when I drop her off at school. She even doesn't turn around to look at me until Mrs. G tells her, "Say bye-bye to mommy!" LOL
ちなみに、日本語補習校ではこういう風にはしないシステムなので、現地のプリスクールに比べて、めい一人で授業に入る事ができるまでかなり時間がかかりましたが、10月終わり頃に突如一人で授業に参加できるようになりました。
BTW, we have a different system at Japanese school which means that parents can't just leave crying kids and need to take care of them if your kid's crying and doesn't join the class activities. So, May-chan had a hard time to stay in the class by herself and took extra time to overcome her fear of separation from Mommy there. Though, she became fine going in the class by herself out of the blue in October.
どうやら、現地のプリスクールに行くのに、「最初はママとバイバイ、先生とこんにちはして、次は先生とバイバイ、ママとこんにちはする」というシステムを何度も説明した上に、実際にそうする事で、ママはちゃんと迎えに来てくれるんだという安心感が芽生えたようです。
She finally learned the system, "I say bye-bye to Mommy and hello to the teacher and then I say bye-bye to the teacher and hello to Mommy." after I explained it and through we practiced it over and over at local preschools.
このシステムを日本語補習校の時にも説明したら、現地のプリスクールと同じなんだという事を理解したようで、ある日突然「マミー、バイバイ！」と言って、授業に参加する事ができました。
So, I explained it to her before Japanese school and then she also understood that Mommy leaves once but comes back later at Japanese school too and one day suddenly said to me, "Mommy, bye-bye!" when I dropped her off at a Japanese class.
ちなみに、火曜日と木曜日は午前のYMCAから午後の校区のクラスへ梯子の日なので、お弁当を作って車の中で食べてもらっています。
Again, on Tuesdays and Thursday, we need to drive to the local school directly from YMCA, so I make a lunch box and have her eat it in the car.
この時期はまだまだ暖かかったので学校の前の芝生でお弁当も食べていましたが、さすがに今は車の中で食べています。
It was still warm enough to hang out on the grass in front of the school and eat lunch there, but it's too cold and she eats in car now.
ちなみに、YMCAの方はこんな感じで外遊びに適した環境が整っています。
BTW, the outdoor class at YMCA is like this. Kids can play outdoor in such a good natural environment.
このYMCAのクラスは補習校のお友達、小梅ちゃんも通っているので、小梅ちゃんに会えるのも嬉しそうです。
May-chan's Japanese friend, Koume-chan, also goes to this class, so May-chan always looks forward to seeing her there too.
秋の落ち葉の季節には集めた落ち葉で遊んだり、今の雪の季節はそり遊びをしたり、目一杯外で遊ばせてくれています。
In fall they let the kids play with leaves and in winter they let the kids play in snow like sledding.
正直、親が同じように外で遊ばせようと思うとかなり体力が削られて大変なんですが、若い先生達が代わりにやってくれているので本当に有難いですし、めいも大喜びで通っています。
（特にHit-chanみたいなインドア派の親には有難い！）
To be honest with you, if you try to let your kid play outside like that, you have to burn a lot of your energy too. Thanks to the young teachers at YMCA, May-chan has enjoyed much outdoor time too.
(The outdoor class is so nice especially for someone like me who loves staying home.)
何週か通った後に迎えに行ったら、同じクラスの男の子2人が「バイ、めい！」と声をかけてくれて、「おー、めい、ちゃんとクラスに溶け込んでるやん。」とすごく嬉しかったです。
After a couple of weeks from the first day, a couple of boys in the class kindly said, "Bye, May!" when I picked her up, which made me so happy and know that May-chan's doing good in the class.
まだまだめい自身が授業中に何をしているのかはあまり教えてくれませんが、最近では「学校にある緑の滑り台が好き。」とか「今日はUを書いたよ。」とか、「今日は小梅ちゃんいなかった。」とか、ちょっとずつ教えてくれるようにもなったので、親の知らない所での世界を広げてくれているのを知って嬉しく思っています。
May-chan's still too young to tell me much about what she does in the classes, but she recently told me, "I like the green slide at school!", "I wrote a letter U today!" or "Koume-chan's not at school today." and shared more of what she does in the classes. I'm pleased that she started spreading her own world where I don't see her.
こんな感じで、まだまだプリスクールなんですが、毎日楽しんで通ってくれているのを見るのは親としても嬉しいですし、このまま学校が好きなままで成長してくれると有難いなぁと思っています。
It's still preschool classes, but I'm happy to see her excited to go to school everyday. I hope that she'll love going to school when she grows up too.
という訳で、今年から現地のプリスクールに通い始めためいさんでした。
Okay, this is all about how May-chan started going to local preschools this year.
