１月５日の誕生日から１か月以上過ぎた先日の休日、朝は寝たいだけ寝て、まだ寝ぼけまなこでパジャマ姿で過ごしていたら、めったにならないドアベルがなりました。
The other day passed about 1 month from my birthday, Jan. 5th, I was off that day and slept in later than usual. Around 10:30am, when I was still in my pajamas and being lazy, I heard somebody rang the door bell.
こちらアメリカの宅配、サインの要らない届け物の場合、チャイムをならして家主がドアを開ける前にそのまま荷物を玄関先に置いて去っていく配達の方がほとんどです。
Here in the US, most of the time, a delivery person rings the door bell, puts the package in front of the door and leaves right away even before you open the door.
なので、今回もそうかなぁと思っていたんですが、ドアの前の待っていらっしゃるようだったので、パジャマ姿のままですが恥をしのんでドアを開けました。
So, I thought that time was also one of those cases, but the delivery lady was still standing there. I sort of hesitated to open the door still in my pajamas, but who cares? So, I opened the door.
で、その時送られてきたのが、日本の家族からの誕生日プレゼント。
I got this pacakge and that was my birthday present from my family in Japan .
ほんと、恥を捨ててドアを開けて良かったなぁと思いましたよ。(笑)
Seriously, I'm sooooo happy that I opened the door even in my pajamas!!!
愛がいっぱい詰まっております。
It's full of love.
母、父、妹ツインズがそれぞれプレゼントを入れて詰めてくれたそうです。（涙）
My mom, dad and twin sisters individually chose things and put them together in this one box.
Hit-chanの好みを知ったお菓子のセレクションに加え。。。
They put my favorite snacks, candies and foods.
母は、最近家庭教師の仕事を再開したと聞いて使えそうな本を送ってくれました。
My mom sent me some kids books since I started a tutoring job recently.
それに、小さいころ好きだったドラゴンボールのパッケージのお菓子も。(笑)
She packed this too. Yeah, it's snacks in Dragan ball package which I was really into when I was a kid.
実はHit-chan、小さいころ本当にお転婆で、ドラゴンボールを観て、いつか地球最強の人間になりたいと本気で思っていました。(爆）
Actually, I was such a tomboy when I was young and Dragon ball made me feel like being the strongest human on the earth. I was so serious. Haha.
その後、母の勧めで９歳で空手を始め、その後１０年以上続けて三段を取りました。（今はもう全然していませんが。。。）
So, my mom recommended me to go to Karate school when I was 9 and I actually continued it over 10 years and got a black belt. (I don't practice anymore though.)
父からは、新たに２種類の砥石と包丁の研ぎ方の説明。
My dad sent me 2 kinds of whetstone with some instructions.
父は趣味で木版画をしているので、実家の包丁はいつも父が研いでいます。前回、Andyっちと一緒に帰った時にお願いして、どうやって研ぐのかを教えてもらっていたのです。
My dad does woodprint art as his hobby for a long time, so he's sharpened their knives. The last time when Andy and I went back to Japan together, he showed us how to sharpen a knife with whetstone and he gave us a new whetstone too.
その後ミネソタに帰ってきて、包丁を研ぐうちに出てきた質問を手紙で尋ねていたので、おそらくわざわざ図書館に行って本を探してきてくれたのか、その本のコピー何枚かとともに丁寧に説明を送ってくれました。
After that, I've sharpened our knives in MN and got a couple of question through some practices. What's so kind of him is that he probably went to the local libray and found a book about sharpening knives. He sent me some copies of the book with the new whetstones so that I can learn more about it.
あと山椒。
Oh, this is Japanese pepper spice.
これは、前回１人で帰った時に山椒を探していたんですが、驚いた事に、山椒が希少になっているのかスーパーで見つける事が難しかったんです。
When I went back to Japan by myself last time, maybe because it's getting rare or something, I had a hard time to find the spice at grocery stores.
一応、その時は上等なブランドを見つけて買って帰ったのですが、たぶん、妹ツインズか母が覚えてくれていて、わざわざ送ってくれたのだと思います。
At that time, I found a expensive brand and brought it back home here, but maybe my twin sisters or mom nicely remembered it and put one in the box too.
こんな風に、箱の中の一つ一つのものに、「あ～、皆、Hit-chanの事を思って選んでくれたんだなぁ～。」と感じられる愛が詰まっています。
Like the ones I explained, every single present tells me "Everyone picked it as thinking about Hit-chan!"
しかも、このプレゼントが届いた時には、日本のお菓子のストックがちょうど底をついていたところなので、パーフェクトタイミングでした！
Also, it was the best timing when I recieved the box since I was running out of my Japanese food in stock.
という事で、日本の家族の愛がいっぱい感じられた休日でした！
Okay, this is about the day made me feel lots of love from Japan!
