ブレンダとデート (A Date With Brenda)

Hello there!



皆様、いかがお過ごしでしょうか？
How's everything going?



Hit-chan、最近ふと思い立って、家でエクササイズをし始めました。
Recently, I've started doing some work out at home.




ホコリをかぶってたエクササイズDVDがあったので、それを掘り出してきて毎日２０分ほどのエクササイズをするのですが、長年ナマッている体には２０分でもかなりきつくて、筋肉痛た戦いながらふぅふぅ言いながらやっております。(笑)
I dug up this exercise DVD which'd been neglected forever and do 20 mins work out everyday. It's just 20 mins, but pretty hard for my lazy body and my body got super sore on Day 2.



「継続は力なり」なので、なが～く続けたいと思っています。
We say "Practice Makes Perfect", so I'll do my best to keep on doing it for a long time.




さて、先日、久しぶりに素敵な友人、ブレンダと一緒にランチをしてきました。
The other day, I had a wonderful date with my wonderful friend, Brenda.




待ち合わせは、前に働いていたカリブーのある街にあるレストラン。
We met up at the local restaurant in a town where my old Caribou is.



ブレンダとはそこで知り合いました。
I met Brenda at my old Caribou.



昨年のクリスマス前に会おう、会おうと言っていたのですが、お互い忙しくて、やっとこさ５月に入ってからデートが実現しました。
We were saying "Let's hang out!" before last Christmas, but you know, before Christmas is the busiest time of year and we haven't been able to make it happen until now.




久しぶりに会うブレンダ、元気そうで何より！
Long time no see, Brenda! I'm so glad to see her doing very well.




お気に入りのバーガーがメニューから無くなっていてショックを受けていたけど、代わりにチーズバーガーを注文していました。
She was so disappointed that they got rid of her favorite sliders from the menu, but she got a cheese burger instead.









Hit-chanはワイルドライスのスープと。。。
I got this wild rice soup and...




苺のサラダ
strawberry salad.



スープもサラダも美味しかったし、何より一緒に付いている白いパンが美味しかった～。
Both of the soup and salad were pretty good and I really loved the white bread on the side.



会ってなかった間の近況報告をしあって、楽しいランチなりました。
We chatted a lot to catch up with a long time we didn't see.




で、この日のデートの一番の目的はですねぇ。。。
And the main purpose of this date was...




ここ、ブレンダにコストコに連れてきてもらう事だったんです。
Yup! Costco!! Brenda took me here!



日本でも人気のコストコ、Hit-chanは一度も行った事が無く、会員であるブレンダにずっと連れて行って～とお願いしてたんです。
It's very popular in Japan, but I've never been there, so I've asked her to take me to Costco shopping since she's a member.



いやぁ、コストコってお酒も売ってるんですねぇ。
I didn't know that they sell liquor too!



早速Andyっちが飲んでいるビールを発見して、電話。
I found 2 beer brands that Andy ususally drinks there, so I made a quick call.



いつも買っている値段よりも安いという事だったので、２種類、１箱ずつ買いました。
He said that their prices are slightly cheaper than the sale prices at our local liquor store, so I got 1 case of each kind for him. What a wonderful wife I am!








何せ、２人家族なもので、食料品は多すぎて買っても食べきれなさそうなものばっかりだったんですが、ティッシュペーパーや洗剤など、絶対使うものをいくつか購入しました。
Well, we're just a family of 2 and their food products were too huge for us to consume before they go bad, but I purchased some things like tissue paper, laundry detergent and dish detergent...



いやぁ、本当に美味しそうなものがいっぱいで、何度も誘惑されたんですが、何とか思いとどまりました。(笑)
There are so many appetizing things in the store and they have a sample table almost at every corner. It's so hard not to buy those foods, but I barely could hold myself.




とにもかくにも、商品の大きさに圧倒されたのもあるのですが、お店の中も、駐車場も人がいっぱいで、そこにかなりビックリしました。
I was very overwhelmed by their huge products and also by a lot of people shopping there. Both inside the store and the parking lot were packed.




日本でもアメリカでも大人気のコストコを実感した日でございました。
Anyawys, I had a very good Costco debut that day.

Hit-chanは相変わらず元気ですよ。
Mine is treating me pretty good!



さて、前回の記事でキャットとスーザンの事を書いたのですが、そのキャットがスーザンの旦那さん、マークのバンドがあるコンテストに参加するから一緒に応援しに行かないかと誘ってくれました。
So, I wrote some about my friend Kat and Susanne on the last article and speaking of them, Kat invited me to a band contest which Susanne's husband, Mark's band participated in.



で、今回はコンテストの決勝戦らしく、予選を勝ち抜いたバンド４組が出場していました。
It was the final of the contest and there were 4 bands to play that day.



コンテストはリブが売りのチェーンレストラン、Famous Dave'sが主催しており、コンテストもアップタウンにあるレストランで行われました。
The contest was hosted by Famous Dave's, so it's at one in Uptown.




一緒に行ったキャットと彼氏のトム。
Kat and her boyfriend, Tom.




キャットの家で待ち合わせして、車に乗せていってもらいました。
I meet up with them at their's and they gave me a ride to the restaurant.










最近、積極的にお酒を楽しんでるHit-chan、この日もこの甘いカクテルを頼みました。美味しかったよ。
I've been actually very willing to enjoy alcohol recently, so I ordered this sweet cocktail that day. I raelly liked it.




この日はコンテストの影響で、レストラン内は満員御礼！
The restaurant was totally packed thanks to the contest.



それぞれのバンドの応援団が駆けつけていました。
Many fans of each band gathered to cheer them up.



トップバッターのバンド。
This is the first band.



ビッグバンドで、サックスやトランペット、パーカッションまでいました。
They're a big band and there were a Sax, Trumpet and even a percussion player.



リードシンガーのおじさんも派手派手金色スーツにノリノリで、トップバッターとして相応しい素敵なバンドでした。
The lead singer was so unique in the shiny golden suits and they performed great as the starter of the night.




食事は皆で分けられるものを注文
We had a table with 6people, so we ordered a big plate to share together.





久しぶりにアメリカンな料理食べたけど、美味しかった～。
I hadn't had this kind of very American food for a while, but greasy food is always delicious, right?




お目当てのマークのバンドは３番手で出場！
Okay, here they are!! Mark's band played as the third.



話によると、コンテストの採点には観客の反応も加味されるそうで、スーザンやキャットに誘われてステージの前まで行ってダンスをすることに。。。
Kat said that the audience was a part of the score points, so Susanne and Kat led me to the front of the stage to...dance!



Hit-chan、日本で生まれ育って、学校ではプラムもないし、大人になってからもクラブとかにも行った事ないですし、人前でダンスするなんて初めて！！
Oh my gosh. I was born and grew up in Japan where we don't have a prom or something and also I've never been to a club either, so it was very very first time to dance in public!



元来シャイな性格なHit-chanですが、大好きなスーザンのマークの為、恥ずかしさを捨てて、本能で音楽を楽しみながら体を動かしました。
I'm originally a very shy person and can't break my shell right away, but this is for my loving Susanne&Mark, so I just tried to focus on enjoying the sound and moving my body along with it.



いやぁ、ここら辺、アメリカ人、特に女の子達のノリは凄いです。
I was very impressed by others, especially girls! They danced so freely. Is that Amrican thing??



皆全然恥ずかしがらずに、色んな種類のダンスを心のままに踊っていました。
They don't get shy at all and just danced as they wanted.




コンテストの結果ですが、残念ながらマークのバンドは優勝できませんでしたが、早くも次のライブのオファーを受けたみたいです。
As the result of the contest, unfortunately, Mark's band didn't get the prize, but I heard they got a offer to play at the restaurant again.



コンテストは順位がありますが、それより何よりも、久しぶりに生バンドの音楽を聴いて本当に気持ちが良かったです。
The contest itself is a competitive thing, but you know, who cares! I just loved the real and live music.



それぞれの楽器から奏でられる振動が心に響いてきて、改めて音楽って素晴らしいなぁと感じさせてもらいました。
All the vibes from each instrument reached to my heart and sheked it. That felt super great and it's just a indescribable feeling.



こうやって、素敵な経験をいっぱいさせてくれる、大切な友人キャットに感謝しています。
Again, I just want to thank my lovely friend, Kat, for bringing a lot of wonderful experiences in my life like this.

ガールズトーク (Girls Talk)

Hello!


皆様、いかがお過ごしでしょうか？
How's your life going?



気が付けば、あっという間に５月に入っていましたよ。
Yeah, that's in a moment. It's already May!



これは、３月の終わりのある日、久しぶりにお出かけした時の様子です。
This is about one day in March and I went out with my lovely girl friends.




新しくできたというレストランで待ち合わせ。
This is a newly opened restaurant.




スーザン、ステイシー、Hit-chan、そしてキャット。
Susanne, Stacy, me and Kat



スーザンは何回かこのブログにも登場しているんですが、キャットにとってのお母さんのような存在です。
I've wrote about Susanne several times on my blog, but let me explain the wonderful relationship between her and Kat again. Suzzane is literally like mother to Kat.



キャットの実のお母さんは彼女が高校生くらいの時に乳がんで亡くなったんですが、その一番辛かった時に親身になって支えたのがこのスーザン。
Kat's biological mother passed away when Kat was in high school or so and Susanne is the one who supported Kat to go through the toughest time.



キャットはスーザンの事をママと呼び、スーザンはキャットの事を娘と呼びます。
Kat calls Susanne "Mom" and Susanne calls Kat "Daughter".



スーザンには二人子供がいるのですが、その子供たちとキャットは兄弟姉妹と呼び合います。
Susanne has 2 kids and the kids and Kat call each other, "Brother&Sister".



キャットとスーザンの家族を見ていると、家族になるのに血の繋がりって必要ないなぁっていつも思い、幸せな気持ちになります。
When I see Kat and Susanne's family, they make me feel like "F*** off blood relaton, you don't need it to become family!" And I feel so happy to see it exist in this real world.



で、皆お腹ペコペコだったので、頼んだのがこれ。
Anyways, we all were starving and ordered this and more.




ポテトを揚げたものに、グワカモレやチーズが乗っかってます。美味しかったよ～。
I forgot the name, but it's potato tots nachos thing.



いやぁ、日本語でも女三人集まれば姦しいって言いますけど、アメリカでも同じです。(笑)
In Japanese, we say when 3 women gather, it gets very noisy. But it's quite same here in the US.



ず～っと会話は途切れる事なく、Hit-chanは主に聞き役だったんですが、本当に楽しい時間でした。
Of course, on this table, there was no time of silence and our conversations kept going. I was mostly just listening, but it was very fun.



何よりもこの大好きな３人は皆強くて自立した女性で、Hit-chanにとっては理想となるお手本のような存在です。
I love these ladies and they're all so strong and independent which is a ideal role model to me.



そんな皆と出会えて、こうやって色々と刺激をもらえる事は本当にラッキーな事だなぁと感じています。
It's very fortunate for me to have met them in my life and get a lot of inspiration from them like this.



Hit-chanもどこかの誰かにインスピレーションをお裾分けできるような女性になれるように、自分で自分に自信が持てるような人でいたいと思います。
I want to be a person with much confidence in yourself and a person to inspire somebody somewhere, sometime.



という訳で、楽しいガールズデートでした！
Anyways, it was a very fun girl's date!

弘法筆を選ばず (The Cunning Mason Works with Any stone.)

Hi!



皆様、いかがお過ごしでしょうか？
How are you doing?



Hit-chanは風邪もひかずに元気にしております。
Thankfully, I haven't got a cold or something and am doing pretty well.



さて、こちらミネソタも良い季節になってきまして、ゴルフシーズンが始まりました。
Here in MN, Spring has finally come and another beautiful golf season has started as well.



で、４月に入って我が家のゴルフシーズンも始まりました。
My family golf season has started in April too.



４月の始めに行った今年初めてのプレイ。
Our first play of the year was in the beginning of April.




Hit-chanの格好で分かると思いますが、まだちょっと肌寒かったです。
As you see me in this pic, it was still chilly then.








この日は住んでいる市が運営している、パー３のコースで、９ホールだけ。
We went to Orono public golf course which is a par 3 course and we only played 9 holes.



で、この日初めてクリスマスにもらった新しいゴルフクラブを試したんですが、なんとなんと、Hit-chan、人生で初めてゴルフでAndyっちに勝ったんです！！！
Believe it or not, I actually beat Andy for the very first time in my life!!!! It was actually the first time for me to try my new clubs and they definitely helped!!!



新しいクラブはHit-chanの身長に合わせて短くしてもらったんですが、これが大正解！！！
Andy got my new clubs fitted to my short height and that was totally a smart decision!



今までよりもスムーズなスイングができるようになりました。
They let me swing more naturally now.



で、その２週間後、またゴルフに行きました。
2 weeks after I had the memorable victory, Andy and I went to play again.



今年はAndyっち、ゴルフ熱が高くって、「週に１回はゴルフしたい！」と言っております。
Andy loves golf, but he's been really into it this year and saying "I want to play once a week." So, go for it, baby!













今回はTimberCreekというコースで。簡単すぎず、難しすぎずの、Hit-chanには良いレベルのコースです。
This time, we played at Timber Creek. This course is not too easy or too hard for me, so it's good.



この日は前回に比べて少し暖かくて、とっても気持ちが良かったです。
Compared to the first play, it's warmer and feeling so great.



残念ながらこの日、２回連続でAndyっちに勝つことはできなかったのですが、新しいクラブだと今まで思うようにスイングできずに感じていたストレスがなくて、スコアは悪くても気持ち良くプレイする事ができました。
Unfortunately, I couldn't beat Andy twince in a row, but I didn't have any frustration that I couldn't do a smooth swing which I used to have with my old clubs, so it was a really refreshing time after all.



いやぁ、弘法筆を選ばずと言いますが、弘法じゃない場合はやっぱり筆を選んだ方が良いのだなぁと感じている今日この頃です。
There's an expression "The cunning mason works with any stone." Oh well, I would want to say, "if you're not the cunning mason, you had better choose a desent stone."



スポーツをするのは好きなのに、ほっとくとずっと家の中にいる出不精なHit-chanを連れ出してくれるAndyっちには感謝しています。
I actually love playing sports and I used to quite a bit when I was a child, but I don't know why, I tend to end up staying inside my house all day long on my free days recently. So, I really appreciate Andy for pushing my heavy butt out.



今年もさむ～い冬が来るまでに目一杯ゴルフで体を動かして楽しみたいと思います。
Until the next MN freezing winter comes, I'd love to play golf and work out as much as possible.

最近見つけたお薦めサイト (My New Favorite Online Store)

こちらミネソタ、何日か肌寒い日があったのですが、今日はお天気も良くTシャツで出歩けるくらい暖かくなりました。
Here in MN, we had a few chilly days recently, but it's really nice and warm out enough to walk just in T-shirt today.



さて、ミネソタに引っ越してきてもうすぐ7年になりますが、やっぱり日本の食べ物が恋しくなります。
It's almost 7 years since I moved to MN from Japan, but I often miss Japanese foods.



ミネソタにはUnited Noodlesというアジアンスーパーがあって、お米やお菓子などたまに買いに行くのですが、やはり品揃えは限られています。
There is a big Asian grocery store called United Noodles here and Andy and I sometimes go shopping there, but the selection is unfortunately pretty limited.



で、時々オンラインショップを探したりしてたんですが、最近素敵なお店を見つけました。
So, I was researching about online stores sometimes and finally found a very nice shop.



カリフォルニアにある日本スーパーみたいですが、オンラインでも買い物ができます。
It's a Japanese store in CA and they do online store as well.



Tokyo Central



まず、何より品揃えがすごく充実しているのと、United Noodlesよりも安い値段のものもたくさんあるんです。
First off, the selection of products is so big compared to United Noodles and the prices are actually very reasonable too.



オンラインショップのマイナスポイントと言えば、送料なんですが、このお店の場合$60以上買えば、送料が半額、$120以上買えば送料が無料になります。
One of the cons of online shopping is shipping fee, but at this store, if you purchase more than $60, the shipping cost gets 50% off and if you spend mroe than $120, the shipping cost goes free!!



Hit-chanの場合、United Noodlesには頻繁に行かない事もあって、行けば$120くらいあっという間に使ってしまっていたので、このオンラインショップで$120使うのは全く難しくありません。
Me personally, it's super easy to spend over $120 at United Noodles since I don't go that often, so I have no difficulty to spend as much as it at this shop either.



で、あまりのお菓子の種類の多さにテンション上がって、先日試しに注文してみました。
I was so excited to see the big variety of Japanese snacks and sweets on the website and tried to order some from them.




先日お菓子などを大人買いして届いたのですが、梱包もちゃんとしていてHit-chanは大満足でございます。
I got the package from them the other day and I totally give them a big thumbs up.




お米や生ものなどはこれからもUnited Noodlesで買うと思いますが、お菓子類はこれからこのTokyo Centralにお世話になりそうです。
I still want to use United Noodles to get desent rice or fresh products, but I'm definitely going to use Tokyo central to get my familiar and favorite Japanese snacks and candies.




という訳で、日本に住んでる方には全く役に立たない情報ですが、アメリカ在住の方はぜひチェックしてみてくださいね。
I guess this information is totally nothing for people living in Japan, but I hope it'll help you in the US!!
