How's your day going today?
長々と続けてきているこのひとり帰国日記シリーズ、ようやく終わりが見えてきまして、あと4つ程記事を書けば終了できそうです。
So, I've been working on this series, My Japan Trip Diaries, for a while, but finally the goal line can be seen now. There are only 4 articles left to write, so let's get onto it!
さて、ミネソタへ帰る日が近づいてきた2月18日、高校からのお友達である、はるかさんとランチをする約束をしていました。
On February 18th when my final day in Japan was getting closer, I had a lunch date with Haruka-san, my friend from high school.
晴香さんと言えば、Hit-chanが高校から今でも連絡を取っているたった2人だけのお友達の一人で、帰国する際には時間を作って会いに来てくれます。（2022年の時も、滞在先のAirbnbに会いに来てくれました。）
Speaking of Haruka-san, she's one of only 2 friends from high school who I'm still in touch with and we always try to make time to update each other in person when I'm in Japan. (She visited May-chan and me at Airbnb back in 2022 too.)
2018年に体外受精を行っていた時も一緒にランチデートしました。
Back in 2018 when I was doing my first IVF treatment, we did a lunch date too.
このブログを遡ったら、2009年にHit-chanがミネソタへ旅立つ時に、もう一人のお友達、あゆみちゃんと一緒に、行ってらっしゃいパーティーをしてくれた記事が見つかりました。はぁ、この記事を読んで改めて感謝の気持ちで一杯になりました。
I read back my blog and found this heartwarming article written in 2009 about the farewell party that Haruka-san and Ayumi-chan who's the other friend of mine from high school did for me before I moved to MN. This article reminded me how lucky I am to have them in my life. 
で、そんなはるかさんと待ち合わせしたのは近鉄京都駅の改札前。
So, we were meeting up at Kyoto station just as we used to when we're in high school.
無事、2年ぶりに再会したはるかさんと、早速ランチへ行く事に。。。
We found each other at the busy spot without any hustle and then walked around to grab lunch.
特に行くお店は決めていなかったのですが、11時半すぎだったので、どこも混み始めていたので、京都駅地下を歩いてみて、このお店に決定。
We didn't have a specific restaurant to eat at on our minds, but it's around 11:30am and every place was getting busier and busier, so we walked underground shopping area and randomly picked one of the shops.
どこも混み始めていましたが、無事にすぐにテーブルに通してもらえました。
It's getting busy, but luciky we could get a table in no waiting time.

メニューはこんな感じで、結構ガッツリ系です。
The menu was like this. The portion sizes were pretty big.
はるかさんはチキン南蛮とエビフライのセット。
Haruka-san ordered this set of Chicken Nanban (Fried chicken with tartar sauce) and fried shrimp.
Hit-chanはトンテキとエビフライのセット。
I ordered a set of fried shrimp and pan-fried pork.
日本の定食は色んな物がちょこちょこついてくるのが嬉しいですよねぇ。
What I like most about Japanese meals is that they come with a couple of different side dishes.
2年振りに会ったはるかさんは元気そうだったんですが、何だか言いにくそうにしながら伝えてくれたのは。。。
It was the first meeting with Haruka-san in 2 years and she looked doing very well. Though, she seemed to want to tell me something, but hesitated to say it. What she actually told me was...,
「実は、今妊娠してんねん。。。」
"You know what, I'm actually pregnant now."
という、嬉しいビッグニュース！！
Oh wow! Hon, that's big and happy news!
Hit-chanが体外受精をしているというのもあって、すっごく気を遣ってくれたと思うのですが、実はHit-chan、今回のランチで会う時に「はるかさん、もし子供が欲しいって思ってるんやったら、絶対早くした方が良いで！」と、お節介おばさん覚悟で言うつもりでいたんです。
Yeah, she's very thoughtful and worried about my feelings to this big news since she knew that I'd been working on IVF for a long time. To be honest with you, I was actually going to tell her, "Hey, you're as old as I am. If you want to have kids, you really should start working on it ASAP!"
なので、この報告は純粋に嬉しかったー！
So, I was very happy for her.
高校時代からの友達3人の中で、はるかさんは唯一ずーっとフルタイムで仕事をしていたし、結婚もほんの2年前くらいだったので、この報告は本当に嬉しかったです。
Among 3 of us, Haruka-san, Ayumi-chan and me, old friends from high school, only Haruka-san has been working full-time for the entire years and got married last just about 2 years ago. So, I was simply happy to hear the news.
やはり、賢いはるかさん、ちゃんと家族プランを考えていたようで、結婚してから早い時期に不妊治療を受けて、今回の赤ちゃんも体外受精3回目でお腹に宿ってくれたそうです。
She's a smart lady and probably had been considering about her family plan, so it sounds like that she started infertility check-ups shortly after she got married. She also went through a few IVFs and got pregnant on the 3rd trial.
そんなハッピーニュースと美味しいご飯で心もお腹も一杯になった後、食後のお茶をしに、今度は駅ビルの中の喫茶店へ。
Such joyful news and the yummy lunch happily filled both my belly and heart. After the fun lunch, we walked to a Japanese cafe in the Kyoto station building next.
はるかさんが携帯アプリで周辺の喫茶店の空席状況を調べてくれたので、無事に行ってすぐにテーブルに案内してもらえました。
Haruka-san used a phone APP and checked seat availabilities at cafes around Kyoto station, so we could hold a table without any waiting time when we got to the cafe.
ロケーションは京都タワーを眺める事ができる最高な席でございました。
Look at the view from the window! You can see the Kyoto tower and the location was perfect.
で、食後のデザートにしてはかなりでっかいこのイチゴパフェと。。。
Haruka-san ordered this giant strawberry parfait and I ordered...
チョコパフェを注文。
this chocolate parfait. It was huge to me too.
いやぁ、雰囲気でこんな大きなパフェを頼んだものの、甘いものをそんなにたくさん食べないHit-chan、全部食べるのに結構苦労しました。
Oh well, I actually like sweet stuff, but don't need them more than a few bites, so it took me long to finish the whole parfait. Haha.
と、こんな感じではるかさんと楽しい時間を過ごした訳ですが、ミネソタに帰ってきてしばらくした頃、はるかさんから「5月31日に女の子を出産しました！」と、LINEが届きました。
Yeah, this is how Haruka-san and I had a fun date at Kyoto station. In a couple months after I came back to MN, I got a message from her saying, "My baby girl was bron healthy on May 31st!"
なので、今、まさに家で新生児の育児でてんやわんやになっている頃だと思いますが、とにかく頼れる人に頼りながら走り抜けて行って欲しいなぁと思っています。
So, I bet that she and her husband are hectic taking care of their baby girl now. All I can do is hoping that they're going to go through this sleepless golden time as receiving as much support from others as possible.
はるかさん、今は寝る時間も無いだろうけど、無理しないでね！次は娘ちゃん＆旦那様と会えるのを楽しみにしてます！！
Haruka-san, I assume that all you want now is sleep time, but don't work too hard! I look forward to meeting your husband and baby girl in the near future!! Love you!
