How's your day going today?
さて、日本では3月が卒業シーズンですが、こちらアメリカでは6月が卒業シーズンで色んな所で卒業パーティーが開かれています。
So, in Japan the graduation season is March, but here in the US, it's June and a lot of people do graduation parties.
日本ではそこまでしないとは思うのですが、アメリカでは高校卒業を盛大にお祝いする傾向がありまして、両親が大きなパーティーを開いてたくさんのゲストを呼んでお祝いするというのも結構一般的です。卒業生が自分達で卒業旅行に行くっていうのが多いですよね。
Here in the US, it's very common that parents hot a big party for their kids' high school graduation, but as far as I remember, we don't do a big party or something to celebrate high school graduation. In Japan, I think that a lot of the kids take a trip with their friends to celebrate the graduation, and so did I.
で、AndyっちとHit-chan、3人いる甥っ子ちゃん達（Andyっちのお兄ちゃんの子供）のうち、次男のギャヴィンが今年卒業したので、その卒業パーティーにお呼ばれして行ってきました。
So, one of our nephews, (the middle one of Andy's big brother's sons), Gavin graduated high school this year, and we're invited to his graduation party in the beginning of June.
これは3年前に撮った写真だけど、一番左がこの日の主役、ギャヴィンね。（真ん中が長男ピアース、右が末っ子キーガン）

こちら9年前の写真。ギャヴィンは一番左だけど、本当に大きくなったよねぇ。甥っ子ちゃん3人ともとっくにHit-chanの背を飛び越えて立派に育っております。というか、Hit-chanも若ーい！(笑)
This one is from 9 years ago. Gavin on the left. You can tell how much he's grown up in the comparison of 2 pics above. Needless to say, all of my nephews passed my height a long, long time ago already. Haha. BTW, I was so young too!! Hehe.
パーティーはオープンハウスと呼ばれるスタイルで、パーティーが開かれている間、ゲストは好きな時間に立ち寄って、好きな時間にお暇しても良いので、私達はお昼の1時半くらいにお邪魔してきました。
The party was open house style which the guest can stop by and leave anytime they want to. The open house was from 12pm-4pm, so we visited around 1:30pm.
めいは行きの車の中で眠りに落ちてしまい、全然起きなかったので、義姉のシンディが「今だったら抱っこしても大丈夫ね！」としばらく抱っこしていてくれました。(笑)
May-chan actually fell asleep in the car on the way to party and didn't wake up at all. Cindy, Gavin's mom, asked me, "Do you think it's okay if I hold her now when she's sleeping?" and my answer was "Of course!" She kindly held May-chan for a while.
この日はお天気が良かったので、お庭でもゲストたちが寛いでいました。
It's a nice day and some of the guests were hanging out in the yard too.
お料理はキッチンに並べられていて、各自好きな時に取れるビュッフェスタイルです。
The food was served in the kitchen in a buffet style so that the guests could serve themselves anytime.
カスタムされたM＆Mもありました。
They had some customized M&Ms too.
デザートはカップケーキ。ギャヴィンは卒業後軍隊に入るので、ネイビーのロゴがデザインされていました。
The dessert was cup cakes! Gavin's going to join the military, so there's a Navy logo on the cakes.
しばらくしてやっとこさ、めいも目を覚ましました。
Here the sleepy girl woke up!
で、途中でお色直し。このドレス、義姉のシンディがめいの為に作っておいてくれたもので、「サイズどうやろ？」と心配してくれていましたが、御覧の通りピッタリ！（可愛い！）
May-chan changed her clothes at the party since Cindy kindly had made a couple of dresses for her. "Is the size fine?" Cindy was worried if the handmade dresses would fit May-chan, but it's perfect just as you can see in the pic!
このパーティーにはパパママもブラッド君も来ていました。
Dad&Mom and Brad were at the party too.
この日は自粛期間後初めてママの妹、キャロル叔母さんと旦那さんのハワードにも会う事ができました。
We could see Mom's sister, auntie Carol, and her husband, uncle Howard, at the party for the first time after the quarantine.
久しぶりに2人揃っているところ見れたので、記念に一枚。（普段の生活の中であんまり考えないけど、改めてこの優しい2人の娘と姪になれた事が幸せです。）
You know what, I always like to see Mom and auntie Carol together. I couldn't stop taking a picture of them. (I don't think about this frequently in my daily life, but the reunion reminded me how lucky I could be a daughter and niece of these sweet ladies.)
めいは最初少し人見知りをしていましたが、周りにグランマ＆グランパやアアンクルブラッドといった見慣れた顔があったのと、義姉シンディのママのワンちゃんと戯れたりしている間に緊張がほどけていったようです。
May-chan was a little bit shy first at the party, but the familiar faces like Grandma&Grandpa and uncle Brad around helped her relaxed. Plus, playing with Cindy's mom's puppy definitely helped her heart open too.
途中、ちょっとお庭にも遊びに行きました。
She also checked out the yard too.
庭にあったサッカーボールを果敢にフェンスの外に投げ出そうとして、ダディに「あかん！あかん！」と怒られていましたけどね。(笑)
May-chan tried to throw the soccer ball over the fence, which made her Daddy say, "No, No!!" Haha.
しばらくお庭で遊んだ後、パーティーはお暇する事にしました。
We played in the yard a little bit and then decided to leave the party.
え？主役のギャヴィンはって？
What? You say "Where was Gavin??"
パーティーに着いてすぐに「おめでとう！」と言ったんですが、その後、彼はお友達と一緒に他の卒業パーティーに行ったようで、途中からパーティーは主役不在でした。(笑)
Well, I could catch him when we got to the party and said "Congratulations!", but he headed out to his friends' parties halfway through his own party. Haha.
と、そんな訳で、ギャヴィンの卒業パーティーでしたが、ギャヴィンと一緒に何かするという感じではなく、自粛期間中会えてなかった親戚と久しぶりに会って楽しくお話したという感じでした。
Anyways, that's how we enjoyed Gavin's graduation party. It's rather enjoying the reunion with our relatives than celebrating the graduation with Gavin, but still a nice time.
という訳で、ギャヴィン、卒業おめでとう！軍隊厳しいだろうけど、頑張ってね！
Congratulations, Gavin! It's going to be a big challenge to go through the training, but I hope you'll learn a lot of things there!
