今度の連続講座をやってみて、改めて二十世紀というのは、つくづく戦争の時代だったなと思うのです。第一次大戦、第二次大戦があって、その戦争によって科学技術が発達した。そして、そのカッコ付きの平和利用というか、商業利用、民事利用によって戦後世界は発展してきたのだけれど、それが、いまドサッと問題を出してきた。原子力はもちろんそうだし、環境ホルモンもそうだし、ダイオキシンなんかは典型です。… 軽くて固いということで、アルミニウムとその合金が使われ出すのは、圧倒的に第二次大戦の戦争機その他の軍需からなのです。
