2001年6月30日、僕たちはシドニーに上陸。10周年の錫婚式みたいに大々的に祝えればいいのですが、昨日ユミは日本へ行ったので一人鍋で祝います。日豪寄せ鍋の材料は、日本出身の豆腐、餅、ネギ、春雨に、豪州土着のエビ、牡蠣、鶏肉、白身魚のバラマンディ。今後も異国の地で、孤独に耐えて生きていきます。

On June 30 in 2001 we landed on Sydney. I wanted to celebrate today extensively as a tin wedding of 10-year anniversary but I celebrate it alone with hot pod because Yumi has gone to Japan since yesterday. The ingredients for Japaralia chowder are tofu, rice cake, leek and bean threads from Japan and local prawns, oysters, chicken and barramundi from Australia. I will live in the foreign country bearing solitude.

This island that caters to celebrities is also on sale for $8M because of the owner’s retirement. The 17 ha island equipped with electricity and water supply has 12 villas, a heated pool, a gym and a restaurant. The access is excellent; 10 minutes by boat to Palm Cove on the main land and 30minutes to the international airport. This is a lucky find being its security and privacy perfect. People say it’s the best property in QLD.

世界のセレブが集うポートダグラスの白亜のリゾート。130haのトロピカル・ガーデンと2 haのプールが客室棟を囲んでいます。最近シェラトンがゴルフ場を含むリゾートを30億円で売却。購入した中国人実業家が150億円で全面改装するとか。中国はバブル景気がはじけそうとの噂もありますが大丈夫？

It’s a chalky resort in Port Douglas where celebrities gather from all over the world. The guest wing is surrounded by a 130ha tropical garden and a 2ha swimming pool. Recently Sheraton has sold the resort facilities including the golf course for $35M. I heard some Chinese businessman has bought it and going to spend $180M to reform it totally. There is a rumor that says Chinese bubble boom is going to burst. Is he OK?

青物市場に近いカフェ・シルクでは、一切小道具を使わずにエスプレッソの上にミルクを巧みに注いで3－5秒間で模様を描きます。模様は大体ハートか葉とか。エスプレッソ特有の絹のように滑らかな泡が命のバブル・アートですが、模様の美しいコーヒーは味も間違いなし。特殊プリンターで模様を描いている店もあります。

At Café Silk that locates near the green market the barista just pour some milk on an espresso and draws some patterns skillfully within 3-5 seconds without using any tools. The pattern is usually a heart or leaf. It’s a bubble art on the silky smooth bubbles that is being characteristic of espresso and there’s no doubt that a beautiful patterned coffee tastes beautiful. 原発のコストは他の発電方式より安いと言われますが、燃料コストだけの比較。原発の建設費、地元への補助金、使用済み燃料の処理費用は計算外。原発はバカ高くて、汚いエネルギー。大事故が起きると経済的損失は国家予算（2011年は92兆円）を超えます。福島の事故処理に40兆円、海外への賠償金も10兆円を超えそう。国土の10分の1を失ったら損失は500兆円。

It is said that the “costs” of a nuclear power plant is less than that of other types of plants that have different methods in generating electricity. However, you can say that only when you compare their fuel costs. It does not include the building costs of the plant, the compensation for the local people or disposal costs of nuclear fuel after use. After all, nuclear power is awfully expensive dirty energy. Once a serious accident happens, the economic damage will exceed Japanese annual budget ($100T in 2011). It will cost $50T to handle the accident in Fukushima and another $10T will be needed as compensation for damages to overseas . You will suffer a loss of $600T, if you lose one tenth of the whole country.

原発は核開発の隠れ蓑

原爆の材料のプルトニウム製造には原子炉か原発が必要。原発を保有する国は核保有能力を持ちます。原発導入を決定した自民党の中曽根元首相は核武装論者。「原発は原子力の平和利用」と宣伝していますが、極東の政情が緊張すれば日本でも核武装論が湧き上がり、必然的に原発はミサイル攻撃の標的にされます。

Either the reactor or the nuclear power plant is necessary to make plutonium, the material for A-bomb. The nations that have the nuclear power plant also have the nuclear capability. The former Prime Minister of Liberal Democratic Party, Nakasone who has an authority to decide on the introduction of nuclear power plant was an advocate of atomic armament. They say “Nuclear power plant is a peaceful usage of nuclear power”. If the Far East political situation became tense, the insistence of atomic armament would well up in Japan and the nuclear power plants would become the target of missile attack.

液化天然ガスでガスタービンを回して発電。その排熱を利用して水を蒸気に変え蒸気タービンを回転させて発電。最新のプラントでは蒸気タービンは高圧・中圧・低圧の3つあり、排熱を3回利用。発電所は小面積でも建設でき、建設費も1基当たり200億円程度（原発は１基5000億円以上）。建設費が安い上、発電量は２基で原発の１基分に相当します。

Combined power plant

In this plant the electricity is made by rolling the gas turbine using LPG. The waste heat changes the water into the steam and it rolls the steam turbine to generate. The newest plant has 3 different steam turbines; the high, middle and low pressures and the same waste heat is used 3 times. Only small area is needed to build a plant and it costs only around $220M (By contrast, a nuclear power plant costs more than $6B). It cots less and it outputs as half as a nuclear power plant does.

Soft Bank is planning on constructing 10 mega-solar power stations in Japan. Germany, Swiss and Italy have changed their policies to denuclearization. In the US both Google and CitiBank invested $590M each in the wind power generation. President Obama who has insisted on Green New Deal assists it. The future of the economy depends on the success of the policy problem to be solved, the renewable energy business. Japan has got a late start.

日本では広島や和歌山で少量のネーブルを生産していますが、大半は米豪からの輸入。豪州では日本のような箱入りやクッションに包まれた高級果物はありません。メロンもマンゴも陳列台に山積みで売られています。ケアンズではライムは1個10円、レモンは1個20円。ネーブルは小が1個30円、大が1個50円。

Stuffing navel orange

While a small amount of navel oranges are produced in Hiroshima and Wakayama of Japan most of them are imported from the US and Australia. In Australia there is no high-class fruit such as those in the fine boxes or wrapped in the cushions. Every kind fruit including melons and mangos is piled on the display stands. In Cairns a lime costs you $1, a lemon $2, a small navel orange $3 and a large one $5.

レモンは温暖、少雨な気候が適しています。日本のレモン97％は輸入品。多くはカリフォルニア産。ワックスで磨いているので輝くような黄色。レモンに限らず日本の輸入果実や野菜は収穫後農薬で汚染されています。フリーマーケットで見かけたレモンはラグビーボール形のイメージとは違うし、大きさも持て余すほど。

The lemon likes a warm climate with light rain. 97% of lemon that is sold in Japan is imported mostly from California. Being polished with wax they are brilliant yellow. Not only the lemon but also most imported fruit and vegetables in Japan are contaminated by the post harvest agrichemicals. The shape of this lemon that I found at a flea market was different from the image of rugby ball and its size was more than I could manage.

東南アジア原産の低木性の柑橘類。料理やカクテルに利用。緑色で丸く、レモンより小粒と言うもののケアンズ産はかなり大粒。コロナ・ビールには不向き？新鮮さが命なので、庭のある家では大抵ライムの木を植えています。日本の輸入ライムは収穫から相当の時間が過ぎているので、香りも味も落ちます。

It’s a low tree citrus originally from South East Asia. It’s used for cooking and making cocktails. Although it is usually smaller than a lemon the kind that grows in Cairns is pretty big. It doesn’t go well with a Corona Beer? The freshness is the most important, so most houses with gardens plant lime trees. The limes imported to Japan have so much time after harvest that their smell and taste are quite ruined by the time you eat them at home.

震災発生直後一人の中学生が動画配信サイト「Ｕストリーム」にNHKニュースを無断配信。海外在住者や被災者にＴＶをネットで生中継。3月25日までの2週間に合計視聴回数は3600万回を超えましたが、ＮＨKは著作権を盾に配信を中止。自社の利益と被災者の人命とどちらが大事なのでしょうか。

Fusion of internet and TVs

Just after the Great Earthquake a junior high school student distributed NHK news on “U stream”, a movie distribution site without prior consent. It was broadcasted live and the overseas residents and victims saw it on net. During the 2 weeks until March 25 the total viewer exceeded 36M. However, NHK stopped the distribution by reason of its copyright. Which is more important, the lives of the victims or their own company’s interests?

「押し込め」や「押し売り」は聞いたことがあるけど「押し紙」は聞いたことがない？大体同じような意味です。発行部数至上主義の大手新聞社では新聞販売店に契約世帯数の3割増しの新聞を押し売り。販売店は折り込みチラシの水増しと報奨金で帳尻合わせ。3割の新聞はゴミになります。紙資源と電気の無駄遣い。

You have heard of “locked up” and “aggressive selling” but “forced paper”? They have almost the same meanings. As the circulation is the most important thing in the leading newspaper companies in Japan they aggressively sell their papers to the newspaper shops. The shops try to balance the budget by watering ad inserts and bounties. 30% of newspapers go to trash without being read. It’s the waste of both paper resources and the electricity.

日本以外にもパエリアのように「炊き込みご飯」はあります。「押し込め御免」は素行の悪い君主や改革を唱える藩主を、既得権を維持しようとする重臣が「悪政」を咎めて座敷牢などに監禁する日本型のクーデター。「鉄仮面物語」のように昔は外国にも例はありましたが、現代日本では政道の常套手段。

“Sea food rice dishes” are not only in Japan but also in other countries like Paella. “Locked up” is a Japanese style coup of that the chief retainers who want to keep their vested rights put their monarchs with bad behavior who urge reform into the room for confinement blaming their “wrong policies”. As “The Man in the Iron Mask” there used to be the same examples in other countries in old days and now it is the usual measures in Japanese politics.

日本、韓国、ホンコン、フィリピン、地中海沿岸国、中南米、南太平洋の島国などで食用に。ＯＺは、イイダコは食べますがミズダコは食べません。ケアンズではエビ漁の網にかかったタコが店頭に並ぶこともあります。見かければ必ず買って、炊き込みご飯、酢の物、煮物に。時にはタコ焼きにします。

Giant Octopus

Octopus is eaten in the countries such as Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Philippine, Mediterranean countries, Middle and South America and South Pacific Islands. OZs eat baby octopus but giant octopus. Occasionally, giant octopus that was caught in the prawn fisher’s net is displayed in the shop. Every time I find it I buy and cook it for sea food rice, vinegared dish, boiled dish and sometimes octopus balls.
