熱帯のケアンズにはアワビはいませんが、ウニ、牡蠣、イセエビは沢山います。僕はアワビやイセエビは採りますが、ウニ採りは嫌です。ウニは採った後、殻を割って身を取るのが大変な作業。特にケアンズのウニは殻が硬いので出刃包丁を使った力技。20個を捌くのに1時間を要しました。プラスチックのまな板は棘だらけで捨てるしかなさそうです。

In Cairns, the tropical area there are a lot of sea urchins, oysters, and lobsters but no abalones. I can catch abalones and lobsters but I don’t like catching sea urchins. It is a hard work to chop the urchin shells to get urchin eggs after catching. Especially urchins from Cairns have hard shells and it’s a harder work to crack them by the broad-bladed kitchen knife. It took 1hour to crack 20 urchins. Plastic chopping board has become thorny after chopping. I cannot do anything about it but throw it away.
