僕たちが滞在するシェラトン・オン・ザ・パークは韓国と台湾とニュージーランドの要人たちの宿舎。武装警官と火薬犬がホテルに出入りする人々をチェックします。隣接するハイド・パークではAPEC反対のデモ隊が警官隊に排除されています。まるで戦争前夜。民主主義の危機。豪州経済を領導してきたハワードの命脈も多分これまで。賢明な豪州国民の大勢は年末の選挙で労働党政権を選択するでしょう。しかし国民の大国志向が強い美しき日本では、桧舞台に大喜びの挙句ファシズム回帰に一直線かな？

The VIPs from Korea, Taiwan and NZ are staying in Sheraton Hotel where we are staying. Armed policemen and gunpowder sniffing dogs check all the people who come to and go out the hotel. In the Hyde Park, next to our hotel people who are against APEC have been eliminated by the police. It’s almost like as the night before the war. It looks like danger of democracy is here. The political life of Mr. Haward who had been leading Australian economy will be finished now. Most cleaver OZs will vote for Labor Party in next election. But in the same case of Japan that does not have the tradition of democracy could rush to fascism.
