こんなジャーナリストもいるんだ。山口敬之はTBSを2016年に退社して、TVにたびたび出演。安倍、麻生、菅など政権中枢に極めて近いこと、第2次安倍政権成立に功績があったことを得々と語る。得意の絶頂期で、「普通の人には許されないことでも自分には許される」という特権意識を抱いたとしても不思議はない。レイプ事件で、民事では賠償命令、刑事では不起訴って誰が考えてもおかしい。

夜明け前に起きて懐中電灯で足元を照らしながら家から徒歩10分の岩場へ。釣り針に剥きエビをつけて海にほうると、間もなく東の水平線から朝日が上って来ました。風も波も穏やかで絶好の釣り日和。釣りを始めて15分、案の定ユミが「もう帰る」と言い出しました。もちろん釣果はゼロ。

We got up before dawn and went to the rocky stretch where is 10 minutes walking distance from our home lighting up our steps with the torch. Baiting some shucked shrimp on the hook and threw them into the sea, the sun rose from eastern horizon before long. The wind and waves were so calm and it was the perfect day for fishing. 15minutes after we started fishing, as I had expected Yumi began saying “I want go home”. Of course, we caught no fish.

People answer on PC (handwriting is also acceptable). The diffusion rate of PCs and cell phones in the US and Europe including Australia is almost 100% but it’s reached the ceiling with 60% in Japan. The presence of this digital devide has made Japanese future gloomy.

朝の散歩で見かけるオウムの群れに数羽のみすぼらしい個体がいます。いじめられて羽毛がなくなったのかと思いましたが、どうやらＰＢＦＤ。オウム類の嘴と爪と羽毛を侵すウイルス病。病気が進行して嘴が使えなくなると、餌を取れず死に至ります。豪州の50種のオウム・インコの38種が感染しているとか。

Walking along the beach in the morning I often find several poor ones in the cockatoo troop. At first I thought they lost their feathers by bullying but they seem to be suffered from PBFD, a virus disease that affects parrots’ beaks, nails and feathers. When the disease advances the parrot becomes not to be able to use its beak and it starves to death. It is said that 50 kinds of parrots and parakeets in Australia have been already contaminated by the virus.

Desert locusts show a phase variation that makes their wings longer and they repeat mass migration eating the same weight of grass as their body weights every day. Being opposite other continents Australia suffers damage from the locusts more in the year with more rain. There are several eye-witnesses of massive swarm of kangaroos, emus or grass parakeets. Generally speaking, the birthrate of Australian wild animals gets higher rapidly when they have a lot of food.

鳳凰木の豆を鞘ごと1口大に切ります。小さじ1杯の食塩を入れたたっぷりのお湯を沸かし、3分間茹で、冷水で冷やし、笊で水を切ります。塩で揉んで盛り付ければ熱帯枝豆の完成。マヨネーズで和えればフェニックス・サラダの出来上がり。鳳凰木の鞘1本で2種類のメニューの1人前。調理時間は5分。鳳凰木の花１厘を添えると季節感溢れ、手軽で経済的。色合いも歯ざわりも申し分ない。味は一口で言うと、青臭苦不味い！

Cut the pod of Royal Poinciana into bite-size. Boil plenty of water with a tea-spoon-full of salt, boil it for 3 minutes, cool it down in cold water and drain off the water. After sprinkling salt and squeezing arrange it on a plate and tropical boiled peas is made. If you dress it with mayonnaise, that makes phoenix salad. With only one pod of Royal Poinciana you can cook 2 kinds of dishes for one person. The cooking time is 5 minutes. Adding a blossom of flower of Royal Poinciana you can enjoy some sense of the season. It’s quite handy and economical. It’s colorful and crunchy, too. It tasted green-smelling, bitter and disgusting.

They live in the tropical and sub-tropical areas of Indian Ocean. They dig holes on the calm-waved coves, brackish waters or mangrove bases, hide there during daytime and come out to catch shells at night. They have strong scissors to cut shells. Their fifth legs are swimming legs. There is “Fishing and mud crab catching” tour for tourists in Cairns. You catch them by sinking the pots with bait in them. They are rich and delicious but you may stain your clothes because the shell is quite hard and the meat is very juicy.

僕が気色悪く感じるのは、OZがピアスと刺青が好きなこと（OZの反論：日本人だってアイラインやカツラが好きじゃないか）。ヤクザが土下座しそうな迫力満点のワニやサメの刺青や、「愛知県」だとか「鉄火巻」だとか勘違いの漢字の刺青も見かけます（OZの反論：日本人だって勘違いの英語のTシャツを着ているじゃないか）。親の影響なのか豪州の子供たちはフェース・ペインティングが大好き。5分くらいで描き上げ350円とはかなり割の良い商売。スパイダーマンにしようかピエロにしようかと迷った挙句、僕はチータを注文。

What I feel weird about OZs is that they love getting pieced and tattoos (OZs response; You, Japanese love having eye liner and wigs). I sometimes see tattoos appealing strongly, such as of a crocodile or a shark that would make a yakuza get down on his hands and knees. I also see some with Chinese characters that are misused, such as “Aichiken’ or “Tekkamaki” (OZs response; You, Japanese also wear T shirts with English characters on them that don’t make sense). It is maybe parents’ influence; Australian children love face painting. The artist draws in 5 minutes and gets $5. Isn’t it a pretty efficient job? I hesitated for a while, wondering which was better, a spiderman or a clown and finally asked for a cheetah.

去年の7月はブルームに遊びに出かけて不在だったので、ケアンズ・ショウを見るのは2年振り。日本で言うと収穫祭のようなもので、家畜や農産物の品評会、地場産の物産展、子供動物園、自動車ショウ、馬術競技、パレード、屋台店、移動遊園地、花火大会など盛り沢山。カラオケ大会や宴会はありません。シドニーでは4月のイースター・ショウ。屋台担当の豪州香具師たちが1週間ずつ北上しながら祭りを盛り上げ、どん詰まりがケアンズ・ショウ。入場料は1人1200円。動物と記念写真は1回700円。

I was in Broome on vacation last July, so we went to see Cairns Show after 2 years. It’s like a Japanese harvest festival. There are the competition of cattle and agricultural products, the exhibition of local products, the zoo for children, the auto show, the equestrian event, the parade, the stall vendors, the assembly amusement park, the fire work and others, but there are no karaoke or banquet. In Sydney it’s Easter Show in April. Australian stall vendors come up to north every week building up festivals, and finally reach to Cairns Show. The entrance fee is $15 per head. A souvenir photo taken with animal costs $10.

高さ10ｍにもなる大型のサボテン、ヒモサボテンの実。中南米原産で別名ピタヤ。中国名は火龍果。果肉は品種により白、黄、赤などのゼリー状で、ゴマ粒のような種子を多数含み快い食感。追熟しないので新鮮なものをすぐ食べるのが正解。輸入物は極端に味が落ちる。トロピカル・フルーツは現地で食べる味が最高。1個300円とマンゴやパパイヤよりかなり高め。

Its flesh is varies depends on the species, white, yellow or red gelatinous pulp containing so many tiny seeds like sesame that is nice in texture. As they don’t get after-ripen you should eat when they are fresh. Imported ones lose taste extremely. Tropical fruits taste best when you eat them on the spot. They are $5 each, pretty more expensive than mangoes or papayas.

僕の生活信条は、過去を悔やまない、未来に期待しない、長いものに巻かれない。一方ユミは、化粧をしない、宝石を着けない、高い服は買わない。僕たちはチョコレートを食べないし、ブランド品を買わないし、クリスマスも祝わない。ユミが2km離れたジムに通うと言うけどエアロビのないジムは意味がない。ウオーキングだけならジムまで歩いて帰って来れば４km、それで十分。迷わないでシットアップ・マシンを即プレゼント。

I visited a small mango family farm while driving through Tableland. There are 20 lists with 50 trees each so the total number of the trees is 1000. The width between both lists is 3m so it gives enough space for operation vehicles to work properly. In its Microgenesis cultivation each tree is as high as 3m and it yields 200fruits. If you sell-in $1 each, one tree makes $200. It means 1,000 trees make $200,000 in total. They also have 300 oxen in this farm and their annual income is $400,000.
