今日のケアンズは最高気温が32度、湿度45％。別のミニ鳩（チョウショウバト）カップルが娯楽室のテラスの軒下に営巣中。ホテル機能のあるVUEは52世帯が入居可能ですが売却済みは8世帯。2世帯は管理人と販売担当員。住人は2世帯。残る4世帯は投資目的のホテルですが、1泊５万円の価格設定がネックで宿泊者はほとんどゼロ。住人の僕は快適ですが、少し心配です。今日も沖合には豪華客船が停泊中です。

Today’s highest temperature in Cairns is 32 degrees and the humidity is 45%. Another mini-dove (peaceful dove) couple is building a nest under the eaves of our playing room.
There are 52 units in VUE that have hotel function, but there are 8 unites that are sold. 2 units are for the manager and one of the salesperson, so there are only 2 the genuine dwellers. The rest 4 units are for investment as hotel rooms, but there are few guests because the accommodation fee is too expensive, $500 per night. I am very pleasant and a little anxious. Some luxury cruise ship is at anchor on the offshore today, too.

三本木農業高校馬術部

ケアンズでは中国映画はたまに見られても、日本映画はまず上映されません。2週間前に新宿で十和田市（旧・三本木町）を舞台にした映画を見ました。馬産地だった十和田市には三本木農業高校と北里大学と市営の3つの馬術部があります。僕は三本木農業高校馬術部員たちと8年間毎朝馬の世話をしました。日本では農耕や軍用に盛んに飼育された馬も現在では競馬用に少数残存するだけ。豪州ではどこでもスポーツ・愛玩用の馬が多数飼育されています。

Some Chinese films but non of Japanese ones come to Cairns. 2 weeks ago in Shinjuku we saw the film made in Towada City (former Sanbongi town). There are 3 horse riding clubs, Sanbongi Agricultual Highschool, Kitasato University, and the municipal management in Towada where used to be the horse growing country. I took care of horses with the students at the Horse riding club of Sanbongi Agricultual Highschool every morning for 8 years. The horses, grown actively for the agriculture and the army use in the past, remain only for a small number for the races now in Japan. A lot of horses are fed for sports or pets all over in Australia.

昨日午後は成田エクセルホテル阪急のプールで過ごし、夕方成田空港でユミと合流。今朝無事にケアンズに戻りました。日本に帰るとほっとします。食事は美味いし、自然はちんまりと美しい。だけどケアンズに戻るとやっぱりほっとします。ホットなケアンズの今日の最高気温は32度。♪住まば日の本、遊ばば十和田、歩けや奥入瀬三里半。ケアンズの次は京都に引っ越そうかと家探しをしましたが結論は留保。

After spending my time at the swimming pool in Narita Exel Hotel Hankyu yesterday afternoon, I met Yumi at Narita Airport in the evening. We have returned to Cairns without any trouble. I feel relieved whenever I go back to Japan. The food is delicious and the nature is cozy and beautiful. I feel relieved whenever I come back to Cairns as well. The highest temperature is 32 degrees in hot Cairns. ♪I want to live in Japan, enjoy at Towada and walk 14km of Oirase Stream(Keigetsu Omachi). We were looking for our accommodation in Kyoto as our next place to live but the decision has been pending.

ソウルの人口は1000万人。緑乏しく慢性的な交通ラッシュ、公害も多そうです。大半の小売店や食堂は10：00am－10：00pmの間しか営業していません。若者は兵役や塾で余暇を楽しむ時間もないようです。ソウル市内に見るべきものはあまりないのに、日本人観光客はドラマロケ地見物にやってきます。昨日午後は自由行動だったので、大長今テーマパークのツアーに参加。日本の中高年女性の心情を理解しようと秋の午後を空しく過ごしました。ソウル→成田。

The population of Seoul is 10,000,000. The city is poor in green and there is chronic traffic jam. There also seems to be a lot of pollutions. Most retail shops and restaurants are open only from 10:00am to 10:00pm. The young people seem to be too busy with serving in the national service and going to the cram schools to enjoy their spare time. Although there are not so many seeing spots in Seoul, many Japanese tourists visit to see some shooting places of Korean dramas. As I was free yesterday afternoon I joined in the tour to Dae Jang Geum theme park. I unavailingly spent an autumn afternoon to try to understand the emotions of Japanese middle aged women. I moved from Seoul to Narita.

ソウルを東西に流れて黄海に至る漢河は、ロンドンのテームズ川、パリのセーヌ川、東京の隅田川のようなもの。人工的で殺伐とした汚水の川にベルトコンベアー的な観光船。夕方シドニーの英語学校で同級生だったジミーと明洞で合流。ジミー夫妻は8月に第1子を得て、3日前から帰国中。今日はチジミ、チャプチェ、韓国BBQ,ケジャンを食べました。

Han Kang River, that flows into Yellow Sea running from east to west of Seoul, is similar to Themes of London, Seine of Paris or Sumida of Tokyo. They are all quite artificial and savage and the sight-seeing boat that proceeds like a belt-conveyer drifts in the dirty water. I met with Jimmy who was one of my English conversation school classmates in Sydney at Myondong in the evening. He had the first baby in August and came back to Korea with her wife and their baby 3 days ago. I had some chizimi, chapche, Korean BBQ and kejang.

統一展望台から川向こうに見えるのは北朝鮮。こちら南側は山に木が生えていますが向こう側は禿山。北側では展望台からの視線を過剰意識してか10年前に4階建てアパートの並ぶモデル農村の建設を手がけましたが未完成のまま。南北の川岸には鉄条網が伸びています。今日は純豆腐チゲ、ビビンバ、プルコギ、タコ刺しを食べました。垢すりは店長の口車に乗せられ、オイル・マッサージ6,000円、足裏の角質取り2,000円の追加料金。

You can see North Korea beyond the river from Reunion Lookout. On this side of the river, in South Korea there are a lot of trees on the mountains but no trees on the opposite side. Being hyperconscious to the audience in the lookout North Korea started to build the modeling agricultural village with the 4-story apartments 10 years ago, but it is still uncompleted. Barbed wire fences are extended both sides of the river. I had zuntofu-chige, bibinba, bullkogi and octopus sashimi today. I paid the surcharge of $60 for oil massage and $20 extra for peeling off foot dead skin being led by the snow-job of the skin-scrubbing shop master.

飛行機は大揺れでしたが、ソウルは雨がやんでいました。ツアー参加者は21人。僕だけが単独参加で1人部屋の差額が3泊で18,000円。油代の追加料金が6,000円で総支払額が63,000円。夕食は野菜たっぷりの慶州名物サンパプ。ソウル市中心部を流れる人工河川は前市長＝現大統領の税金の無駄遣い。宿の漢河ホテルの施設はかなりくたびれていますが、部屋は広くて窓が大きく、眺望良好。開発を急ぎ沈没しつつある韓国経済。質実剛健は王道です。

Nrita to Seoul
Sat. October 25 : cloudy after storm

Our airplane was tossed about badly by the storm. However, the wind and the rain had stopped in Seoul when I arrived there. There are 21 members in my tour. I am the only one who participates in without any companies and the surcharge of single room is $180 for 3 nights. As the oil surcharge is $60 I paid $630 totally. The lunch was sonpab, the local dish with a lot of vegetables in it. The artificial river that flows in the center of Seoul was built by the ex-mayor, present president, using tax wastefully. The facility at Han Kang Hotel where we are staying is pretty old but the guest rooms are spacious with the big window and the nice view. Korean economy has been sinking due to the rapid development. Being simple and sturdy is the royal rule.

昨夜からの嵐で海辺の民宿は吹き飛ばされそう。暴風雨の中を2時間半電車に乗り成田エクセルホテル阪急に移動。ツインの部屋に1人泊まり、インターネットもプール・ジムも無料で7,900円。感激したついでに阪急旅行社主催の3泊4日の韓国ツアーに参加します。全食事つき、観光・垢すり体験つきで39,000円。アジア旅行は豪州直行より日本からツアー参加が絶対に安い。

Katsuura to Narita
Fri. October 24 : rain and wind storm

My sea-side inn seemed to be blown away by the storm last night. I moved to Narita Excel Hotel Hankyu on the train for 2 and half hours during the storm.
It was $78 for single use in a twin room with free of charge of internet, swimming pool, and gym use. As I was impressed so much I will join the 3day-4night group tour to Korea assorted by Hankyu Tour. It is $390 including the air ticket, the accommodation, all the meals, the sightseeing, and the full-body skin-scrubbing. The group tour from Japan is much more reasonable than flying from Australia directly for a trip to Asia.

勝浦市は街も海も汚れています。勝浦海中公園もかなりくたびれています。400年の伝統を誇る勝浦の朝市は意外と小規模で老人だらけ。しかし野菜も海産物もかなり優秀。金融という麻薬がが世界を滅亡させようとしています。自給自足の精神が今後ますます重要になるでしょう。一本シメジと干物2種を900円で購入して宿で調理してもらいました。この街は不況にも耐えられそうな気がします。

The town and the sea are dirty in Katsuura. Katsuura Under-sea Park has been quite damaged as well. The morning market that has 400 traditions was unexpectedly small and there are only old people. But vegetables and seafood are quite good. Monetary junk is going to destruct the world. The spirit of self-sufficiency will become more important than ever. I bought wild mushrooms and 2kinds of dry fish with $9 and asked them to cook at my inn. I think this town can endure in recession.

十和田→東京→勝浦と移動。民宿坂下に2泊して千葉県の魚を研究します。中学生時代には内房によく遊びに来たけど、外房にはあまり興味はなかった。外房は今でも疎外されているような感じがします。都会の華やかさは贋物。電車で鴨川まで足を伸ばし水族館見物。小湊の鯛の浦で鯛の餌付けを見物。宿の夕食はイセエビとアワビ。

I’ve moved from Towada to Katsuura via Tokyo. I will stay in a little inn to study about fish from Chiba prefecture. I used to visit Uchibo often when I was a junior high school student but Sotobo. Sotobo seems to be alienated still now. The floridness of big cities is fake. I went down to Kamogawa to see the aquarium. I saw snapper feeding in Kominato. I had a lobster and abalone for dinner.

八甲田山と十和田湖をドライブ。八甲田の紅葉は既に時期が過ぎていましたが、奥入瀬渓流は紅葉真っ盛り。新聞報道によると日本の紅葉のNo1は奥入瀬渓流、No2は嵐山、No3は日光だそうです。だけど観光客が少ないのは何故？十和田湖のホテルの多くは倒産寸前。紅葉一葉で天下の秋を知る。1ヵ月後に日本経済は冬の時代を迎えます。

I drove in Hakouda Mountain and around Lake Towada. The autumn color season in Hakouda had already finished but Oirase stream was just right in the season. According to the newspaper the top 3 places for autumn color is Oirase stream, Arashi-yama, and Nikko. But why are there few tourists around here? Most hotels beside Lake Towada are on the merge of bankruptcy. A falling leaf tells you the falling economic world. In one month Japanese economy will meet the winter season.

On the way from Mutsu to Towada I dropped in at Maki-bank of Shimoda Park in the next town to watch wild birds. 5 kinds of ducks and 2 swans were swimming there. Maki, my deceased wife was very found of this pond. I stayed at Hotel Root Inn Towada.

二戸の墓参

岩手県二戸市で父の23回忌と母の13回忌の法要。十和田から車で1時間の距離。姉は米国から、僕は豪州からの参加。兄の遺族４人、親戚２人。参列者は総計8人。姉とは7年振りの再会。法要終了後3時間運転してむつ市へ。むつグランド・ホテル泊。

I headed to Ninohe to attend the Buddhist memorial service of my father’s 23rd and my mother’s 13rd. It takes 1hour to get there from Towada by car. My sister came from US and I, from Australia. 4 members from my brother’s bereaved family and other 4 relatives, totally 8 members assembled. I met my sister after 7years. After the service I drove for 3 hours to Mutsu. I stayed at Mutsu Grand Hotel.

三沢の墓参

ユミと別れて新幹線で3時間、八戸に移動。いつものパターンで駅レンタカーを借り、三沢市経由十和田市へ。三沢の市民墓地には妻と次男の遺骨が半分。残る半分はケアンズ沖のグレート・バリア・リーフに散骨しました。宿はホテル・ルートイン十和田。

I was separated from Yumi and moved to Hachinohe spending 3 hours on Shinkansen. As usual I rented a car at the station and went to Towada via Misawa. I have placed half of my wife and second son’s ashes in the tomb in Misawa Civil Graveyard. And I scattered the other half of the ashes to the offshore of Cairns in Great Barrier Reef. I stayed at Hotel Root Inn Towada.

築地市場の寿司、月島のもんじゃ焼きを食べた後、歌舞伎見物。どれもユミには初体験ですが、歌舞伎にはかなり参った様子。近い将来宝塚と交響曲観賞も是非体験させたいものだ。

After eating some sushi at Tukiji market and some monja-yaki in Tsukishima we saw kabuki. All of them were the first experiences for Yumi and she seemed to be exhausted after kabuki. I want to take her to Takarazuka and symphony appreciation in near future.
