When Wang's team looked at mice lacking various receptors, such as the M2 and M5 muscarinic receptors, which are involved in emotional expression, the males no longer produced the vocalisations.

つまり、ムスカリン受容体遺伝子がSEXにおいて感情の機微の発露に大きく関わっているという推測が成り立ち、人間の性交渉にも少なからず関連する可能性を示唆します。「交配行動に関して、これまでで最も踏み込んだ研究成果だ」との評価も。雌のマウスは交配中ではなく、群れに戻されて数時間後に『雄と同様の』交配時特有の鳴き声を発生させたといい、このことから雄と雌の情動の作用機序が根本的に異なることの裏付けとなりそうです。
