さて、唐突ですが、我が家の一人娘、めいが今年の4月から日本語補習校に通い始めました。
So, our lovely daughter, May-chan, started attending a Japanese school from last April.
元々Hit-chanの中ではめいを日本語補習校へ通わせるのは必須の事だったんですが、何となく勝手に「年齢は3歳くらいからだろうなぁ。」と思ってのんびりしていました。
I was originally going to make her go to a Japanese school at some point, but for some reason, I was thinking, "Maybe, it's about from age 3." So, I didn't even research about it at all.
ですが、今年に入ってすぐぐらいに「いつくらいから入れるのかなぁ。」と軽く調べるつもりでサイトを見てみたら、一番小さいクラスは2歳からとの事
Though, I wondered, "From how old can May-chan start going to a Japanese school?" one day in the beginning of this year and googled about it. Then, I found out that the youngest class was for age 2!
驚き桃ノ木山椒の木！
What a big surprise!
今年の4月からめいはちゃんとクラスに入れる資格がありました。（気づいたの、奇跡のタイミング！）
May-chan was old enough to join the class from April this year. (What a perfect timing I noticed it!)
そこから慌てて情報を集め、ミネソタに2つある日本語補習校のうち、家から近い方に通う事になりました。
（ミネソタはね、冬は雪道走ったりしないと行けないから、この家からの距離って結構重要なの。）
So, I started collecting more information about Japanese schools in MN and decided to join one which's closer from our house. (There are 2 Japanese schools in MN.)
(The distance from our house to the school was kind of important for me because you have to consider about a chance that you need to drive on snowy days in winter here in MN.)
4月から入学だったんですが、コロナ禍の為1学期は全てオンライン授業。
The school started in April, but all the classes in the first semester were online due to COVID-19.
なかなか椅子に座ってジッとしてられないめいでしたが、2学期に入って待望の対面授業が始まり、先日初登校してまいりました。
May-chan had a hard time to keep sitting still in front of the laptop screen during the online classes, but in-person classes finally started in the second semester and we had the first day in September.
コロナ対策で2歳以上は皆マスク着用が義務付けられており、めいにもこの日、何とかかんとか宥めて付けてもらいました。
They're very cautious of preventing COVID-19 infection in school, so even 2 year-olds have to wear a mask in the building. May-chan hadn't worn a mask almost at all until then, so Andy and I did everything to convince her to wear a mask that day.
やっぱりね、コロナ禍でずーっと人と会わない生活をしていためい、初日は慣れない場所に慣れない人と圧倒されたようで、学校で過ごした半分くらいは泣いておりました。
After all, May-chan had been quarantined and not socialized almost at all for a long time, so she seemed to be overwhelmed by the new place and new faces and cried for a half of the time at the school.
でもでも、大好きなお絵描きの時間になったら先生に貸してもらったクレヨンでお絵描きを楽しんでおりました。
Still, she had some fun there. She borrowed the teacher's crayons and enjoyed drawing.
ちなみに先生が貸してくださったクレヨンはこちらのブランドで、発色がすごく良くてめいも気に入ってました。
This brand of crayons was really good, and May-chan really loved the vivid colors.
初日で一緒に来てくれたダディは、何が何やら分からない日本語の中でめいも大泣きしたりして、ちょっとストレスだったようです。
Andy kindly came along with us, but it was a little bit stressful for him to have to deal with screaming May-chan in the only Japanese-spoken environment.
学校ではコロナ対策がしっかりされており、カフェテリアでのスナックタイムも家族ごとにテーブルが分けられてありました。
Again, they're very careful of prevention of COVID-19, so during the snack time at the cafeteria, each family separately sat at a different table.
スナックタイム後の自由時間は大好きなブロック遊び。
After the snack time, we had a free time. May-chan had fun with playing with the blocks.
まだまだお友達と一緒に遊ぶという感じではありませんが、ダディと楽しんでおりました。
At age of 2, the kids didn't seem to play along with each other so much, but May-chan had a good time with Daddy.
授業は半日ほどで、手遊びや工作の他、ジムでの運動タイムもあり、2歳児にとっては結構盛りだくさんでございます。
The class was from 9-11:30 and we had a song, craft, gym time and etc...which was full of events for 2-year-olds.
初日は親子ともども慣れない場所で慣れない事をしたので、家に帰ってからはAndyっちもHit-chanもドッと疲れを感じで、2人で交代して昼寝をしました。(笑)
To be honest with you, on the first day of school, everything was very new and unfamiliar to Andy and me too, so we both got exhausted and took a nap in turn after we're back home. LOL
今これを書いている時点では2回登校した後なんですが、2回目はマスクをつけるのにも慣れたようで、一度ちょっと愚図っただけでそれ以外はちゃんと楽しんで授業に参加しておりました。
At the point when I'm writing this article, we've done the class twice. On Day 2, May-chan seemed to be used to wear a mask all the time and enjoyed most of the class except for a little cry once.
平均2週間に1回だけの登校なんですが、めいにとってはこの補習校での時間は、同年代のお友達と遊んだりマミー以外の人と日本語をお話したりする良い機会になっているのはもちろん、Hit-chanにとっても、日本人のママさんたちと交流できる楽しい時間になっております。
The class for 2-year-olds is only held once in every 2 weeks on average, but it's still a great opportunity for May-chan to see other kids and adults speaking Japanese other than Mommy. Also, it's a very fun time for me to chat to other Japanese moms too.
初日、2回目と、Andyっちも一緒に来てくれましたが、この先、基本的にHit-chan一人でめいを連れて学校に通う予定なので、冬の雪道も頑張って運転していきたいと思ってます。
Andy kindly came along with us on Day 1 and Day 2, but I'm going to take May-chan to the school by myself from now on, so I'll pay much attention when I have to drive there on a snowy day in winter.
という訳で、めいとHit-chanにとっての新生活スタートの様子でございました！
Okay, this is how May-chan and I started our new life!
