新築ユニットの壁は白一色で味気ないと、デザイナーが画家の友人を連れて来て女2人であちこちの壁の塗り替え。力仕事も汚れ仕事も平気。その壁の色に合わせてブラインドやベッドやソファやランプを選ぶそうで、現在の家具はほとんどが借り物。僕は父親譲りの色盲だから細かいことはどうでもいい。早く家具を搬入して欲しいけど、彼女たちは容易に妥協しそうもない。

Saying “The plain white wall in the new-built unit looks quite dull”, my female designer started to repaint here and there with a female friend of hers, an artist painter. They don’t mind doing any heavy work or dirty work. They said they will select the blind, the bed, the sofa, and other furniture to fit the color of the wall, so most furniture in my house has been borrowed by someone. I don’t care about details because I am color blind inherited from my father. Although I want to bring in the furniture as soon as possible those ladies don’t seem to make a compromise with me easily.

VUEは戸数52ですが入居者は5世帯のみ。大きくて立派なプールがあるのに利用するのは僕だけ。静かな水面は潮風で揺れるたびに水底に網目模様を描きます。今日の気温は最高が30度、最低が22度。今夜は中秋の名月。海から昇る満月が見事でした。VUEのプールは10：00pmまで泳げるので、最低気温が25度を超えたら月や星を眺めながら泳いでみます。

There are 52 units in VUE but only 5 families have moved in. I am the only man who uses the swimming pool. The calm surface draws the mesh designed pattern on the bottom of the swimming pool when it is disturbed by the wind. Today’s highest temperature is 30 degrees and the lowest, 22 degrees. It is Mid-autumn Festival Night. The full moon that rose from the sea was stunning. As we can swim until 10:00pm in VUE I think I will swim looking up the moon and stars when the minimum temperature becomes over 25 degrees.

火遊び・ニッポン

日本でもデイリー・トレイダーが火遊びしているらしいけど、単なる金儲けと言うかギャンブル。土地ころがしや株ころがしは怪我のもと。「国民は頭が悪いんだから節約して余った金の運用はお上に任せなさい」。貯金に励み、国債を購入し、文句も言わずに納税し、ささやかな年金で我慢しましょう。首相交代でまたぞろ国民無視の政治劇。利己主義と格差社会はますます助長。何事も他人任せの日本国民も投機から投資への意識改革が必要かな？（写真：毎日新聞)

As the official money rate is 7.25% you could get $72,500 per year if you had a $1,000,000 term deposit. You could get $50,000 rent income per year if you bought a $1,000,000 apartment and that would be $2,000,000 capital gain in 4 years. Since the real estate investment is more profitable than placing money on deposit the construction boom has been going on.

周囲500mの人工池を取り囲むように造成された三つ星半の団地。分譲価格は３LDKで3500万円から。VUEは２LDKで7300万円からですから約半額。占有面積が広いからまだ日本より安いけど過去5年間で価格は倍増。土地がいくらでもある豪州では不動産価格は立地条件次第。海が見えるだけで価格は倍に跳ね上がります。

OZs go to bed and get up early, and they start exercising before dawn. There is a 1.5km-long beach in Trinity Beach and 800m-long esplanade that is a little too short for a walking exercise. Inhabitants have recommended me the 2km course; you start from the beach, ascend the steep stairs, go through the forest on the top of the hill, pass the back street, and return to the beach. The five –star apartment, Bellvue located next to the south spot of our apartment building on the top of the hill also has an excellent view. But it has a privacy problem because the swimming pool and the terrace are seen directly from the walking path.

OZは早寝早起き。夜明け前からエクササイズに励みます。トリニティー・ビーチは砂浜が1.5kmありますがエスプラネード（海岸通り）は800mと散歩には物足りない距離。海岸を歩いた後は急な階段を上って丘の森を通り抜け、裏通りからまた海岸通に戻る2kmコースが住人たちの推奨コース。丘の上にある北隣の五つ星アパートのベルビューも眺望抜群ですが、散歩道からプールやテラスが丸見え。プライバシーに難があります。

自然保護と言えば聞こえはいいけど、外来種を駆除するとか在来種の純潔を守るという言い分は国家論や戦争論に似ています。よそ者や増え過ぎた種を駆除しなければならないのなら傍若無人の自然破壊者・人類がまず第一の責を負うべきかも。ところで野生動物に餌をあげることも自然破壊？南隣の四つ星ホテル・ビーチフロントのオーナーはオウムの餌付けをしていることにご近所では賛否両論。

“Nature preservation” sounds nice but the insistence of the extermination of the aliens or the protection of pure of the native sounds similar to the theory of the state or the theory of the war. If the aliens and the overpopulated species had to be exterminated, human beings, the selfish nature destroyers should have the priory responsibility. By the way, feeding wild animal will destroy the nature as well? The pros and the cons about the cocatoo feeding by the owner of Beach Front are battled back and forth in our neighborhood of the southern next-door four-star hotel.

ミサゴヶ浜でミサゴは滅多に見られませんが、嫌われ者のオウムとトキとインドハッカは海辺の遊歩道でいつでも見られます。オウムは鳴き声がけたたましいので図々しいカモメでさえ敬遠します。日本のトキと違って豪州のトキは姿が不気味でいつもゴミを漁っています。外来種のインドハッカは圧倒的な繁殖力で在来種を攻撃するので駆除が検討されています。

Cocatoo

You can rarely see the osprey on Osprey Beach but unpopular cocatoos and common mynas on the beach side of the pavement anytime. Even cheeky sea-gulls try to avoid from loud cocatoos. Unlike Japanese ibises Australian ones are ugly and always scavenging the rubbish. Since common mynas, one of the alien species have overwhelming reproductive power and attack native species, exterminating them is on the table.

トリニティー・ビーチには南北1.5kmの砂浜があり、両端は険しい岩場で陸上の通行は不能。川がないのでワニはいませんが、先月サメ騒動が報道されていました。波打ち際に狭い平坦地があるだけで丘陵地帯の崖がそびえています。この丘の上の森林にミサゴが生息していて、海に魚を採りに舞い降ります。早朝からトライアスロンの鉄人たちが遠泳訓練に励んでいます。後方の島はダブル島とスカウト島。

Osprey Beach

There is 1.5km-long beach from the north to the south at Trinity Beach and both ends are very steep and impassable. As there is no river there are no crocodiles but the news about the appearance of some sharks was broadcasted last month. The shallow flat land is surrounded by the cliff of the hill on the surf side. In the forest on the top of the hill the ospreies habitat and they fly down to the sea to catch fish. Some ironmen who do triathlon are exercising a long distance swim from early morning. The islands in the backyards are Double Island and Scout Island.

VUEの地階は酒屋と賭場。英国文化ではこのような風俗営業店はホテルまたはパブと呼ばれます。パブにはドレス・コードがあり、いかつい門番がいて未成年者の入場を阻止したり、泥酔客を追い出します。その名残で今でも名門ホテルには軍服姿の門衛がいます。VUEの地階のホテルに門番はいませんが未成年者は入場禁止。レストランが充実していて、景色が良く、大人のムード。入居者はプールサイドから斜路を伝ってビーチへアクセス可能。

Hotel that locates the basement of VUE

There are the bottle shop and the gamble hall on the basement of VUE. In English culture this kind of entertainment or amusement business is called the hotel or the pub. The pub has a dress code and some hefty and rugged bouncers who prevent the entrance of the juveniles and abandon heavily drunk customers. As the vestiges of it there are still the doormen in soldiers’ uniforms in front of some famous hotels. Although there is no bouncer at the hotel in the basement of VUE, juveniles are prohibited to enter. The restaurant is excellent with a nice view and quiet circumstance. The residents of VUE can access to the beach from the pool-side through the ramp.

北西の隅にある僕の書斎のテラスから人工池とクリフトン・ビーチが連なって見えます。夕日は熱帯雨林に沈みます。ヒラリー・クリントンの敗北は豪州でも大きなニュースでした。しかし日本の福田首相が政権を投げ出したことは豪州マスコミも完全無視。米印比日など未成熟国家は議員・宰相の世襲制や政権のたらい回しが公然と行われるお国柄？

The view from the north east terrace

You can see the view of the series of the artificial pond and Clifton Beach from the terrace of my study that locates on the corner of the north east side of our unit. The sun sets into the tropical rain forest. The defeat of Hillary Clinton was also the big news in Australia but the abandoning of Mr. Fukuda, Japanese prime minister was completely neglected by Australian media. Among immature countries such as the USA, India, the Philippines and Japan there are national background that don’t hesitate the descent and the runaround of the prime ministers or representatives?

居間の西隣に娯楽室があり、そちらにもテラスがあります。風が通り抜けるので冷房で体調を崩す心配はありませんが、西日が厳しそう。VUEの西側は通りを1本隔てて周囲500mの人工池のあるリゾート団地。緑が豊かで野鳥も多く見られます。背景に熱帯雨林の山並みが拡がり、こちら側も良い景色です。

The view from the west terrace

There is a rumpus room on the west side of the living room and there is a terrace next to it as well. As the wind passes through we don’t need to worry about becoming sick from the air conditioner but we will have severe sunshine from the west. There is a resort housing complex that has an artificial pond with its 500m circuit on the west side of VUE. You can see a lot of wild birds as there are a lot of trees. The background is the range of tropical rain forest and this side also has a nice view.

VUE(眺望)という名のアパートだけあって景色は抜群。居間と主寝室は東のテラスに面していて、ガラス戸の向こうは珊瑚海。まるで船に乗っているようで、海が荒れた日は船酔いしそうです。日中は遠くに漁船やヨットや貨物船が見えます。朝夕には近くにボートやカヌーやシーカヤック。夜は星が美しく輝き、潮騒が聞こえてきます。

The view from the east terrace

As the name of VUE the view from our unit is outstanding. The living room and the main bedroom are next to the east terrace and face to the Coral Sea through the grace doors. I feel seasick as I am on a ship when the sea runs high. You can see fishing boats and yacht offshore in daytime and boats, canoes and sea kayaks near the shore in the morning and evening. You can also sea beautiful twinkle stars and listen to the sound of the waves in the night.

荷解き、ゴミ捨て、主要な家具搬入、家電購入、ライフラインの接続、食料の購入が昨日で一段落。暦の上では今日から春。本日の予想気温(最高‐最低)は30-20度。僕たちのユニットはほぼ真東を向いています。テラスから見下ろすとプールが見えますが、室内からは海しか見えません。VUEは海面より20m高い丘の上にあるので太陽は低い位置から顔を出し、まず天井を照らします。寝室からも寝ながら朝日が見られます。

The dawn of VUE

Unpacking, littering, bringing in major furniture, connecting the life line, and buying food finished yesterday. Spring started from today according to the calendar. Today’s expected temperature (max-min) is 30-20 degrees. Our unit is facing almost exact east. You can see the swimming pool if you looking down from the terrace but you see only the ocean from the rooms. As VUE locates on the top of the hill that is higher than the sea surface the sun appears from lower position than our unit and lighten the ceiling firstly. We can see the sun rise in our bed.
