さて、今日も京都滞在記です。
Okay, here's another article of my Kyoto diary.
日本滞在も4週間を超え、Andyっちの滞在予定が残り1週間半となった頃、それまではミネソタ時間に合わせて仕事をしていたAndyっちもお休みを取り、本格的に日本でやりたかった事をできるようになりました。
Our Kyoto stay passed over 4 weeks and only 1 week left until Andy's going back to MN. Andy had been working in MN time until then, but he took a week off so that he could enjoy more things in Kyoto.
このブログを読んで下さっている方だとご存知だと思うのですが、我が家のAndyっち、ビールも好きですが、それと同じくらいウィスキーが好きなんです。
If you've been reading my blog for a while, you'd probably know that Andy's a big fan of whiskey as well as beer.
ここ最近では日本のウィスキーの美味しさに注目が集まっており、Andyっちももれなく日本のウィスキー（特にビンテージ）市場の動向をチェックしています。
Japanese whiskey has been globally very popular recently, and Andy frequently checks what's being sold on the market, especially Japanese vintage bottles.
なので、今回の帰国でも日本のウィスキーをチェックしたいと希望していたんですが、Andyっちが欲しいのはそこらへんで買えるようなボトルではなく、ビンテージ銘柄なので、そもそも見つける事が難しいんです。
So, he wanted to check and see what would be sold in stores in Japan, but again what Andy's looking for is vintage bottles which you can't find at typical liquor stores.
滞在していた郊外の酒屋さんではビンテージ銘柄は無いので、やはり高価なお酒が飲まれる飲み屋さんがある京都市内のお酒屋さんをいくつか当たってみる事にしました。
The liquor stores around our Airbnb didn't sell Japanese vintage whiskey, so I did some research and found a couple of liquor stores in downtown Kyoto which seemed to sell special and expensive bottles.
で、四条一日目、ホテルからの最寄り駅、京阪祇園四条駅でHit-chanの両親と落合い、まずは駅近くのホテルに行きました。
Day 1 in Shijo area, Andy, May-chan and I took a train to Gion-Shijo station to meet up with my parents there. Then, we headed to a hotel nearby.
というのも、お目当てのお酒屋さんが開店するのが午後の時間だったりで、酷暑の中、めいを連れて午後から市内に行ってまた滞在先に帰ってくるのが結構大変なので、折角だから京都市内の行きたいお酒屋さんの近くのホテルに一泊して、ゆっくり観光する事にしたんです。
Why hotel? Yeah, when I did some research about Japanese whiskey, I noticed that some of the liquor stores would open in the late afternoon. It's kind of a lot of work going to downtown Kyoto from a later time of the day and coming back home on the same day especially with May-chan. So, we decided to stay at a hotel in Shijo overnight so that we could take enough time for Andy's whiskey hunt and more fun stuff.
今回宿泊したのは、京阪祇園四条駅から徒歩2分の好立地にあるこちら。
Here's the hotel we stayed this time which was located only 2 mins from Gion-Shijo station.

写真は撮っていませんが、このホテル、お部屋もサービスもとっても良かったですし、何よりコロナ渦で観光客が減っていたせいか、我が家3人で一泊七千円ちょっとというお手頃価格でめちゃくちゃラッキーでした。
I didn't take pictures of the room we stayed in, but both their room and service were satisfactory. What's best about the stay was that the price for a night was only $70 or so even their location was in the middle of downtown Kyoto. I assumed that they didn't have many tourists due to the pandemic.
無事荷物を預かってもらった後は、とりあえずHit-chanが事前に調べておいたビンテージウィスキーがありそうな酒屋さん一軒目に向かいました。
After we dropped off our luggage at the front desk, we headed to a liquor store which I found on my research and looked to have some Japanese vintage whiskey.

最初に行ったのはこちらの酒屋さん。残念ながら、このお店にはあまりお目当てのウィスキーは置いてありませんでした。
This shop was where we checked first. Unfortunately, they didn't have vintage Japanese whiskey bottles at the time.
ちなみにこの日、京都はめちゃくちゃ暑くてですねぇ、ミネソタから来た我が家3人だけでなく、Hit-chanの両親も外を歩き回るのは結構大変そうでした。
（特に父は深夜勤務を終えてそのまま来てくれているので、あまり無理してもらいたく無かったですしね。というか、父、還暦過ぎてますけど、Hit-chanなんかより全然体力があって驚かされます。）
BTW, the day we were in Shijo was super hot and humid. Not only 3 of us from MN but also my parents seemed to be running out of their energy so quickly in the harsh weather.
(Especially my dad joined us straight after his 3rd shift job, so I didn't want him to work too much for us. Still, my dad is over 60, but he's surprisingly much more energetic than I am.)
最大の目的であるお酒屋さんはまだ一軒しか見ていませんでしたが、皆バテて来たので、とりあえずカフェに入って休憩する事に。。。
We'd only checked 1 liquor store by the time, but we're getting tired from the heat and decided to take a quick break at a café.
暑い日に食べるアイスは最高ですな。
May-chan enjoyed sweet and cold ice cream which was perfect for the hot day.
Andyっちはアイスティー。
Andy got ice tea.
Hit-chanと両親はアイスコーヒーを注文。いやぁ、冷房の効いた屋内は気持ち良かった～。やっぱり、酷暑の日はちょくちょく休憩を入れていかないと危ないですよね。
My parents and I ordered ice coffee. It felt so good sitting in the cool room. The hot day reminded me that it's very important to take breaks and stay hydrated.
ウィスキー探し以外に、Andyっちが四条に出てきたらやりたかった事の一つに、我が家が何本もの包丁を購入しているお店を覗く事でした。
Besides hunting Japanese whiskey, Andy also wanted to stop by his favorite knife shop in Shijo too.
京都には歴史のある刃物屋さんが何軒かあるのですが、木版画を作るのに彫刻刀を買ったりするHit-chanの父から紹介してもらってから、Andyっち、こちらのお店を紹介してもらってから、京都に帰る機会があるとこのお店を覗くのがお決まりになっています。
There are a couple of very old knife shops in Kyoto, but Andy's loved this store most since my dad, who makes wood prints for a hobby and bought some carving knives from them, took him there several years ago.
そのお店が常久さん。
The shop is 常久 Tsunehisa
ちなみに京都の刃物屋さんで有名どころは、Andyっちのお気に入りの常久さん以外にも、京都有次 Aritsuguさんや菊一文字さんがあります。どちらのお店も創業350年以上で、やっぱり京都のお店は歴史が深いですねぇ。
FYI, 京都有次 Aritsugu and 菊一文字 Kikuitchimonji are also very popular and old knife shops in Kyoto too. Every one of those 3 shops were founded more than 350 years ago, which reminded me that my home town, Kyoto, has such a long history.
最初にお邪魔したのはAndyっちが初めて日本に行った2015年です。
Andy first visited the store in 2015 when he went to Japan for the first time.
一人で帰った時も母に付き合ってもらって寄りました。
I also stopped by the store with my mom when I went back to Japan by myself.
もちろん、前回の帰国でもお邪魔してます。どんなけ好きなんや？って感じですね。(笑)
Of course, Andy and I stopped by them in 2018 when we went to Japan together last. Yeah, we're such a huge fan of them, aren't we?? LOL
最初にお邪魔して以来、我が家では包丁を何本も購入させてもらっているんですが、家にある包丁、今数えてみたら4本もこの常久さんで購入したものでした。
（ちなみにHit-chanは料理する時は、上の記事で書いてある2015年に父に買ってもらった名前入りの三徳包丁でほとんどの物を切っていて大のお気に入りです。）
Ever since we visited the store for the first time, we have purchased many cooking knives from them. I just counted all the knives in our kitchen and then found out that 4 of them were from the shop!
(My most favorite one is the one with my name carved which my dad purchased for me in 2015 and I cook with it most of the time.)
そんな訳で、我が家に必要な包丁というものは無いのですが、強いて言えば使っていたペティナイフの先が少し曲がっていたので、今回は折角なのでペティナイフを購入する事にしました。まぁ、半分包丁コレクションという趣味が入ってますよね。(笑)
Yeah, we'd already owned knives more than enough, but we still got a petti knife on this visit because the one we'd used was a little bit bent in the tip. Yeah, it's more likely that we got it for our collection. Haha.
と、こんな感じで、久しぶりの京都市内探索ですがまだまだ続きます！
Okay, I have much more to share about the Shijo walk, but let me finish here for today.
