このように、技術が利用の仕方の問題ということではなく、その本質そのものにおいて、人間との間に深刻な困難を呈することが近年多くの分野で見られるようになった。そして、その困難は技術上の進歩・改良といったことによっては解消されず、むしろ、技術が発展し、強化され、高速化され、巨大化されればされるほど、一層顕在化してきた。それが、現代の先端的技術がほとんど一様にかかえる問題であろう。そのような認識が正しいとすれば、この問題は、人間が生き、生活し、社会を構成していく原理と、同じ人間が産み出したものであっても、技術が動作し、発展する原理との間には、何かしら根本的な対立ないし少なくとも緊張があるということとして理解せざるを得ない。

Then technology is in itself often seen to make serious difficulties in various fields for human beings in these days rather than it poses a problem for them how to use it. And the difficulties can’t be solved by technological updating and advancement but they are emerging all the more by technological advancement, enhancement and speeding-up. This may be a problem almost common to every modern advanced technology. If this recognition is right, I can’t help but understand that there is some kind of fundamental conflict or at least strain between the principle for human living and social formation, and for technological functioning and development, even if it has been created by human beings themselves.
