早朝プロムネードに散歩に行くと夜明け前から活動している高年日本人バード・ウオッチャーご一行に出会います。三脚に望遠カメラの武装集団で、日本からの探鳥ツアー・グループ。3泊4日で15万円とか。プロムネードは前が遠浅の海、後が色々の大木の茂る公園なので野鳥と海鳥が苦労しないで沢山見られます。シティーのホテルから徒歩で数分、山道やぬかるみを歩く必要はありません。観察・撮影の障害物はないし、ほとんどの鳥は人間を恐れないので探鳥天国。3日間で日本の1年分の鳥を撮影できるそうです。

When I go to promenade for a walk early in the morning I often bump into Japanese elderly bird watchers. They are armed group carrying the tripods and the telescopic cameras. They are the bird watching tour group from Japan. They told me the tour fee is $1,500 for 4 days including 3 nights accommodation fee. The sea is shallow for a good distance in front of promenade and there is a park with a lot of big trees in the back, so you can easily watch wild birds and water birds. You can get there from city hotel in several minutes on foot and you need to walk on neither mountain roads nor muddy places. There is no obstacle for observation or shooting photos and most birds are not afraid of human beings. That makes Cairns the paradise for bird watchers. They say you can shoot as many photos as you can in 1 year in Japan for 3 days in Cairns.
