そんなDirect-to-Consumer (DTC) genetic testsに対して、今後FDAが規制を高めるのではないかという懸念が示されています。しかし今回、FDAがDTC Geneticsについては独自の会議を設けるということで、著者はこれをDTC側にとって、その有意義性を主張するチャンスだと捉えてる模様。
昨年はLDTs(研究開発試験)への連邦規制による監督強化が表明されただけに、その施行裁量権については今も議論が絶えず、DTCについてはLDTsとは別のレギュレーションを設けるべきだと言う声も挙っていたのが背景。
今回議論の俎上に上がっているのは、遺伝子サービスにおける顧客側のニーズと臨床現場でのリスクケア、検査の分類に依る規制適用の振り分けなどで、これはDTC側についても方々の臨床学会から、質評価の安全性などの問題点において勧告されてきたこと。
ただこれまでも多くのバイオ系レビューサイトにあったように、近年のDTC遺伝子関連事業についてのFDAの態度はあまりにもアグレシッブだと言われており、企業側としては『柔軟性の向上』を訴えるとともに、透明性の高い良質なデータの提供に努めていく必要があるでしょう。
