豪州に象はいませんが俗名は「象の耳」。本名はジャイアント・タロ、戒名はインド・クワズイモ。葉の長さが2mにも達するサトイモ科の植物。熱帯アジアやアフリカで食用に栽培されています。ケアンズの青物市場では各種のタロイモが売られています。買うのは主に東南アジアや南太平洋の島々の出身者。OZは観賞用に露地植えしています。

There is no wild elephant but this kind of plant is called “Elephant’s Ear” in Australia. Its real name is giant taro. It’s also called Indian Cunjevoi. It belongs to the araceae family and its leaf grows 2m long. It is cultivated for food in Tropic Asia and Africa. Several kinds of araceaes are seen at Cairns green market. The customers are mainly from South East Asia or South Pacific Islands. OZs often raise it outdoors as the decorative plant.
