マンゴ畑のカカシ

乾燥した砂の大陸・豪州は農作物の病害虫が少ない風土。農薬の使用量が少なくて済みます。土地を計画的に放牧と農耕に交互に利用するので化学肥料もあまり使いません。マンゴを食べる虫や鳥もあまりいませんが案山子が見張り番をしています。実はマンゴの大敵はフルーツ・バットですが、この巨大蝙蝠は熱帯雨林の木の種を運ぶ動物として保護されています。マンゴ農家は間引き駆除を主張しても動物愛護団体が反対の姿勢を崩しません。

Mon. April 13 : fine occasionally rain

The dry sand continent, Australia has few agricultural diseases and pests. The farmers use only a small amount of agrichemicals. They use their farms systematically alternate grazing and agriculture without lots of chemical fertilizer. There are not so many insects and birds that eat mangos but I found a straw man. Actually, the archenemy of mango is fruit bats. But these giant bats are being conserved because they convey seeds of trees into the tropical rain forest. Mango farmers insist on thinning out but animal protection groups never change their position against it.
