皆さん、メリークリスマス！
Merry Christmas, everyone!!
ミネソタ時間では今日クリスマスをお祝いしています
In MN time, it's Christmas today!
我が家もクリスマスイブの昨日、パパママのお家に到着して、今日皆で一年で最大のイベントを楽しむ予定です。
May-chan, Andy and I got to Dad & Mom's house up north yesterday, on Christmas Eve, and we're getting so ready for our biggest family event in a year.
日本だと大晦日が近づくにつれて2022年を振り返って新年を迎えるというのが一般的だと思うのですが、こちらアメリカではクリスマスがそれに近い感覚です。
In Japan, people generally start looking back all the memories in the year when it's getting close to New Year's Eve and then welcome the New Year and here in the US, we generally start doing the same thing around Christmas.
もちろん、クリスマスというと宗教的な意味合いが強いので、最近では「メリークリスマス！」の代わりに「ハッピーホリデー！」と言う事がCMや学校などでは一般的にはなっているのですが、Hit-chan個人的には長年使われ続けている「メリークリスマス！」という言葉の方が、そこに宿る独特な魔法感を強く感じます。
Needless to say, Christmas is a religious event and we recently say, "Happy Holidays!" instead of "Merry Christmas!" especially on commercials or at schools, but I personally feel more magical spirit in "Merry Christmas" which has been used for years.
魔法感って何？って思われるかもしれませんが、人って、何でも無い時に他の人からめちゃくちゃ優しくされたり、大きなプレゼントをもらったりすると、「何で？！」と、嬉しいを越えて怖いという感情を抱きがちだと思うんです。
What's magical spirit?? You know, when you receive unexpected big kindness or present from a stranger or somebody for no reason, you tend to feel, "Why?" and get more scared than happy.
でもね、クリスマスシーズンに漂う雰囲気って、「誰かの為に何かをしよう。」という気持ちに溢れていて、それはもちろん家族や友達だったりするんですが、クリスマスにはその範囲が広がって、全く見ず知らずの相手にもその輪が届くこともよくあります。
Although, Christmas season is full of love which makes you feel like, "I wanna do something for somebody." and the love circle doesn't stop just among your loved ones but also can reach to anybody in the world.
昔コーヒーショップで働いていた時も、このクリスマスシーズンのドライブスルーの注文では「次の人の分も払うよ。」という事が増えたのを覚えいます。
I remember that there were more people said, "I'll pay for the person behind me too." and treated strangers in Christmas time when I used to work at Caribou Coffee.
何も無い時に見ず知らずの人に思ってもいない厚意をもらうと、「え、大丈夫です。」と断ってしまいそうでも、このクリスマスシーズンだと相手から「メリークリスマス！」と一言かけられると、魔法が効いて受け取りやすくなっちゃうんですよねぇ。
Even if you get scared of a big kindness or love from somebody you don't know and want to decline the offer on a usual occasion, the magic word, "Merry Christmas!!" makes you feel more open and comfortable to take the love.
Hit-chanは、キリスト教徒でも何でもないんですが、そんな「メリークリスマス！」の言葉が好きで、都合よくその言葉に宿る魔法を愛しています。
I'm not a Christian, but I still love saying "Merry Christmas!" and do believe the magic spirit in the words.
そんな訳で、皆さんメリークリスマス！思いやりに溢れる一日をお過ごしになる事を祈っています！
So, you know, Merry Christmas, everyone! I hope you're having a wonderful day full of love and kindness!
