はい、旅行日記第七弾です。
Okay, this is about the day 7 of the Japan trip.
京都滞在４日目ですが、この日はHit-chanの両親と一緒に出掛ける約束をしていました。
This is the 4th day in Kyoto and we had a date with my parents.
京都駅で待ち合わせをして、四条の新京極辺りをブラブラする事にしました。
We met up at Kyoto station and headed to Shin-Kyougoku, Shijo in downtown Kyoto.
で、途中母に教えられて、お寺かな？を発見。
On the way we're walking around the downtown, my mom told me about the hidden temple.
折角なので。。。
It's a certain coincidence, so...
お願いしておきました。
we made a wish for having a baby.
で、この日はあるHit-chanとAndyっち、あるミッションを仰せつかっておりまして、目的の場所に行きました。
We actually had a mission to complete on this day, so we got to this place.
そのミッションといういうのがですねぇ、実はAndyっちのパパママから
This mission is actually from Andy's parents and they asked us
「Hit-chanのお父さんとお母さんに、ぜひ美味しいものをご馳走してきてね。。」
"Please treat Hit-chan's parents a nice dinner or something."
とお金を預かっていたのです。
and gave us some money for it.
うなぎの京極かねよさん。
The restaurant my parents picked up was a historical eel place, "Kyougoku-Kaneyo".
お店にはちょっとした庭園がありまして、池には鯉も。
They had a small Japanese garden in the back of the restaurant and there were some carps swimming in the little pond too.
そして、小さな滝まで。
They even had a small water fall!
Andyっちと母はうな丼。父はうな丼に卵焼きが乗ったもの。
Andy and my mom got this eel bowl. Dad had a fried egg on this as a topping.
で、Hit-chanは一番高い松華堂弁当。もちろん、うなぎの蒲焼とご飯も付いてきます。
Me? I actually ordered the most expensive dish on the menu, the gorgeous bento box! Of course, it comes with rice and grilled ell too.
単品で茶碗蒸しまで。(笑)
Oh well, I also ordered this egg pudding dish too. Hehe.
で、今回、このお店でランチをしようと思ったのは、以前母と滋賀県に旅行に行った時に寄った「かねよ」で食べたうなぎに感動したからなんです。
The reason why we picked up this restaurant is because my mom and I really loved the grilled ell at the other same chain restaurant in Shiga when we traveled there 7,8 years ago.

で、京極にもかねよさんがあると母が教えてくれ行く事にしたのです。
And my mom told me that there's the sister restaurant in Kyoto too, so we decided to have this special dinner here.
ただ、Hit-chan、「あれ、滋賀のかねよで食べたうなぎと何か違うなぁ。滋賀の方が好きやったなぁ。」と思ったんですが、滋賀に一緒に行った母も同じ意見でした。
Even though, when I had the first bite of the ell, I thought "Mmm, this tastes different from the one that I had at the restaurant in Shiga. Oh well, I liked the other restaurant's one better." and my mom agreed with me too.
で、調べてみると、滋賀のかねよさんと京極のかねよさんは同系列のお店だそうですが、味は全然違うそうなのです。
So, I googled about these 2 restaurants and found out that they are sister restaurants, but they serve different flavors.
Hit-chanと母は滋賀のかねよさんの方が好きでしたが、ネットでは京極のかねよさんのファンもいらっしゃったので、ただただ好みの問題ですね。
My mon and I liked the Shiga restaurant, but I found some fans of the Kyoto restaurant on Internet, so yeah it's just depending on your liking.
とはいえ、久しぶりに美味しいうなぎをお腹いっぱい食べる事ができ、両親も
Even though, we all had the decent grilled ell after a long tine and my parents were saying
「Andyのパパとママ、美味しい食事をありがとう！」
"Thank you so much for the delicious dinner, Ray ad Mary!"
と喜んでおりました。
で、お腹がいっぱいになった後は、両親の道案内のもと、京極でお土産屋さんを回りました。
After our bellies got full, we walked around in the downtown and looked at a lot of souvenir shops with the navigation from my parents.
そして、両親が是非連れていってあげたいと言ってくれていた刃物屋さんに行ったのですが、そのお店はその日お休み。(笑)
And where my parented really wanted to take us to was a knife shop, but the one on their mind was closed on that day.
で、母がすぐに調べて錦市場にある刃物屋さん、有次さんに行きました。
But thanks to my mom's iPhone, she looked up at another one right away and led us to the shop, Aritsugu in Nishiki market.
1560年創業の歴史あるお店です。
This store was founded in 1560!
錦市場内にあるので、外国からのお客さんも多くたくさんの包丁が並べられていました。
It's in Nishiki market which is also famous to tourists, so there were lots of foreign tourists in the store and they had so many knives on the display.
店内では職人さんが作業されているのも見学できるようになっていました。
Inside the store, some craft-people were working on their jobs.
そして、刃物屋さんを梯子しまして、今度は木版画を趣味にしている父のお気に入りのお店、常久さんに行きました。
Actually, we went to another knife shop after this and this one is my dad's favorite, Tsunehisa. He does wood print art, so he's so familiar with those knives.
こちらのお店も1631年創業の老舗です。
This shop is old as well and was found in 1631!
で、Hit-chan、父に包丁を買ってもらい、名前まで入れていただきました。
And my dad actually got me a kitchen knife and this gentleman carved my name on it!
ミネソタに帰ってから早速この包丁で料理をしているんですが、めっちゃ切れますねぇ。（当たり前）
Now I've used the knife since I got back to MN and I love it! It's so sharp and makes cutting things much fun.
今まで使っていた包丁に対して何の不満も無かったんですが、一旦この新しい包丁を使ってしまうと、もう元には戻れませんよ。
I didn't have any complaints about my old knife at all, but once I used my new knife, it's so hard to go back!
で、この後一旦お店を出て街をウロウロしていたんですが、Andyっちが
Anyways, after I got my new knife at this shop, we kept walking around, but Andy suddenly asked me
「やっぱり、もう一回、あの刃物屋さんに戻っても良い？」
"Can we go back to the knife shop again?"
とリクエストが出ました。
実はね、最初にお店に行った時にHit-chanだけ包丁を買ってもらったんですが、名前を入れてもらえる時になって、Andyっちに
In fact, when my dad first offered us to get a knife and we're thinking whose name should go on it, I asked Andy
「Andyの名前を入れてもらおうか？入れてもらわんで良いの？」
"Do you want your name on it? Don't you want it??."
と再三確認したのに、
several times. And he said
「Hit-chanの好きなようにしたら良いよ。」
"Whatever you want, babe."
と言うので、Hit-chanが気に入った包丁に、Hit-chanの名前を入れてもらったんです。
So, I ended up having my name on the knife.
なのに、店を出てから、
Even though, after we left the shop, Andy started saying
「僕は最初からずーっと日本で包丁を買おうと思ってたのに、Hit-chanが急に包丁買うって言いだして、僕、Hit-chanの選んだ包丁が良かったんやけど、もうHit-chanが選んでしまったし。。。」
"It's hard to explain, but I was going to get a knife in Japan, but all of sudden, you stepped in and got the knife. I liked the knife you got, but you already got it, so..."
とぶつぶつ。
blah, blah, blah...
本当何回も確認したのに、買った後に拗ねるなんてねぇ。
Oh my, I asked him SEVERAL TIMES before I asked the shop man to curve my name on it, but he got so difficult after I made the decision.
多分考えるに、自分がしたいと思う気持ちとHit-chanにさせてあげたいという気持ちが拮抗していて、最初はHit-chanの好きにさせてあげたいという気持ちが勝ったのに、そうした後にまだ自分の欲望も消える事なく残ってしまったんでしょうな。(笑)
I assume that he had the 2 opposite feelings fighting with each other, his own wish to do what he wants to do and his sweetness to let me do what I want to do. And even though he first made the latter feeling win, he couldn't let the other one go at all either.
繊細で難しい旦那さんですなぁ。(笑)
My hubby is so sensitive and difficult. Haha
で、両親にもう一回お願いして、常久さんに戻る事に。
Anyways, I asked my parents to go back to the knife shop with us again.
で、Andyっちもまた父に買ってもらい、名前も入れていただいたのです。Andyっちのはとっても長い包丁です。
My dad also got one for Andy and he had his name on it this time. He actually got a very long knife for him.
Andyっちも機嫌を直し、これで一件落着ですわ。
Now the problem is solved, he's happy and I got relieved.
Andyっち、ミネソタに戻ってからも、マイ包丁を見る度に本当に嬉しそうな顔してるので、Hit-chanも、あの時戻って買ってもらって良かったなぁとしみじみ思ってます。
Even when we're back to MN, Andy seems super happy every time he looks at his new life, so I'm so glad that we could get one for him at that time.
二本も包丁を買ってくれたお父さん、ありがとうね～。
Thank you so much, dad, for the wonderful knives!!
この日、本当にお土産屋さんを色々行ったり来たりして歩き回ったんですが、父も母も嫌な顔一つせずに付き合ってくれて、とても感謝してます。
On this day, we walked around so long to look at so many souvenir shops, but my parents didn't show us the tired faces at all and let us do as much as we wanted. I really appreciate it.
という訳で、京都を観光客として目一杯堪能した日でした！
It was a very fun, busy and productive day as a tourist!
