さて、時はさかのぼり、2017年9月中旬の頃のお話です。
So, this is about a day way back to the middle of last September.
何度かブログでもお話したんですが、我が家の地下ですが、数年前の夏、大雨＆停電などで浸水しちゃいました。
I've mentioned about this several times here before, but our basement has got flooded a few years ago due to heavy rain and blackout.
その時点で、水を吸い取れる掃除機でカーペットにしみ込んだ水を吸い取れるだけ吸い取り、乾燥機を2台フル稼働し、何とかカビ発生は免れる事ができました。
At that time, we worked so hard to vacuum as much water in the carpet as possible with a water vacuum cleaner and made 2 big dehumidifiers work full time so that we could protect our house from mold.
で、地下には２つ寝室があるのですが、浸水被害がひどかった部屋のカーペットはその時に全て取ってしまい、その後そのまま放置しておりました。
We have 2 bedrooms in the basement, but one of them was fine and the other one was flooded so bad. So, we took the carpet from the bad room and had left it as it was for a long time.
まぁね、AndyっちもHit-chaも、基本1階で生きていて、地下の部屋は全然使わないので、カーペットが無くても特段困らなかったんですね。
Oh well, to be honest, Andy and I are always living upstars and we don't use the basement except when I do laundry, so it didn't matter so much to us that the bed room had carpet or not.
でもでも、今回の日本での一大プロジェクトの為、費用を銀行から借りる為に家を担保にする事になりました。
Though, for the big Japan trip, we happened to need to apply for home equity loan.
で、査定の時に、さすがにカーペットが無いと見栄えも悪いし、査定額にも響くだろうという事で、昨年の夏にやっとこさ放置してあった地下の寝室に手をつける事になったんですねぇ。
So, we really needed to install carpet in the bedroom since it didn't look so good without carpet and the might affect to the appraisal.
で、こちらがその部屋。
This is the room.
地下にある２つの寝室ですが、もともと、1つはゲストルームとして誰かが泊りにきた時に使えるように、もう1つは子供ができた時に子供部屋として使おうと思っていたのです。
We have 2 bedrooms downstairs and we're thininking to use one of them for a guest room and the other one for a kids room.
で、今回手をつける部屋は子供部屋にするつもりなので、この際、壁の色ももう少し明るい色に塗り替える事にしました。
So, this time, we wanted to remodel the room in the bad condition into a kids room and decieded to change the wall color.
「風が吹けば桶屋が儲かる」という言葉がありますが、Hit-chan、このプロジェクトをしている間ずっと、頭に「壁を塗れば、赤ちゃんができる（かも）。」という言葉が浮かんでました。(笑)
In Japanese expression, "When the wind blows, bucket stores make more profit." which means "Even things which don't seem connected actually connected somewhere and somehow." So, when I was painting the wall, the old Japanese expression kept floating in my brain. Because, you know, painting the wall is truely connected to having a baby!!
で、プロジェクト開始。まずは壁についたホコリとか、蜘蛛の巣とかを取って綺麗に拭きます。
（定期的に業者さんに害虫駆除をしてもらってますが、やっぱり蜘蛛さんはどこからか入ってくるみたいです。）
Before we painted the wall, we wiped it to get rid of dust and spider webs.
(We regularly get an pest control agent over our house, but spiders still sneak in our house!)
扉の向こうはクローゼット。
Behinde the door is a closet.
その中も塗る事に。
Of course, we were going to pait in there.
もちろん、汚れても良い服でね。うちは基本土足禁止ですが、さすがに床がコンクリートなので靴をはいてます。
I turned to be in DIY style. We usually don't wear shoes inside the house, but this is an exception because it concrete floor!
コンセントや換気口？のカバーは外しておきます。
We took the outlet and vent covers off.
で、Andyっちと相談して決めたのは黄色。赤ちゃんができた時に、男の子か女の子かまだ分からないし、何より暖かい感じがするのでね。
Andy and I talked about the color, year that's the most important part, and we agreed to paint it yellow since we don't know that our baby is going to be a girl or a boy yet! Plus, yellow feels warmer too.
窓の周りなどは、基本マスキングテープを貼ってペンキが付かないようにしてから塗るんですが、今回は急ぎのプロジェクトだったので、刷毛で丁寧に塗っていきました。
Around the wood trims, we're supposed to put masking tapes to cover them from paint, but we didn't have much time for this project and skipped the step. Instead of using masking tapes, we just carefully painted around the trim by hand!
こうやって、しっかりライトを当ててムラが無いか見ながら塗っていきます。
Like this, we put the light on and make sure there's no spots.
で、一日目に塗ってから、乾いた次の日に、また同じように2度塗りをします。そうすれば、ムラも少なくなるし、長持ちするのです。
After the first, we left it over night and painted it the same again so that we can make it no spots and last long.
で、完成。
Okay, done.
本当、色って雰囲気をすごく変えますね。すっごく暖かい雰囲気になって、AndyっちもHit-chanも大満足でした。
Seriously, colors are really something to change the mood. The room feels much warmer now and made us so happy.
という事で、このリモデル？プロジェクトの第一歩は無事に終わりました。
