Honda Desert Pilot

HONDA が北米で販売するHONDA PILOT はモノコック構造のSUVである。

 

 そのパイロット(競技車は別物だが...)で今年初めてメキシコの砂漠で繰り広げられたBAJA 500 に参加した。ホンダにとって四駆での参加は今回初めてとの事だ。そのマシーン、ホンダデザートパイロットを手掛けたのはHPD (Honda Performance Development ) であった。

 

初参加にも関わらず、Unlimited 6-Cylinder Class で優勝!

 

いよいよホンダも4x4に真剣になったのか!?

 

Honda Rigeline も参加,

これは市販車クラス?

 

あらら、...困った!

O V E R L A N D とはなんぞや?

オ=バーランド(OVERLAND,OVERLANDING)とは一体何なのだろうか?

日本語で調べて見ると、

wiki 出典: フリー百科事典『ウィキペディア(Wikipedia)』

 

オーストラリアの長距離列車。アメリカの自動車メーカー。フランスの軍用車両メーカー。ゲームメーカー。腕時計ブランドネーム。アメリカの鉄道模型のインポーター。大陸横断の旅客列車。などと記載されている。

しかし、英語で調べると

OVERLANAD  TRAIL とか EXPEDITION という言葉が出てくる。

 

日本人にとってオーバーランドとは、何それ?って感じの言葉である。

実は英語を使うアメリカ人でも、言っている事は分かっても、まだピンとこない?だろう。

 

しかし、

 

英国人はちょっと違うと思う。

英国の4x4と言えば、ランドローバーだが。

RはROLL, ROUND, ROYALなどの複合的な意味があるのかも?

  即ちLANDROVERという名前には当初からオーバーランド(遠征旅行)を意識していたのではないかと考えられないであろうか?

 よって英国系の人々は、(南アフリカやオーストラリアも含む)オーバーランドと聞くと、ああ、車に荷物を積んでちょっと遠征旅行に出るんだなぁ、との解釈に到達しやすいのではないかと思っている。同時にランドローバーを使った旅が思い浮かぶのではないかな?

 

 オーバーランドとは何か?についてその道の大御所、オーバーランドジャーナルでは以下の様に謳っている・

About Overlanding

Overlanding is about exploration, rather than conquering obstacles. While the roads and trails we travel might be rough or technically challenging, they are the means to an end, not the goal itself. The goal is to see and learn about our world,

訳すと何を言っとるのか益々分からん、

訳し方が悪いんだろ... 

 

 規模の大小は問わず車やバイクに乗って非日常を味わう人生の楽しみの一つの行為なのだ。週末に人気のない林道を走って山の上流の水でコーヒーを入れて飲む楽しみ。目的の宿にたどり着くのにあえて未舗装な道を選んで走ってみる。自然の景色の良い場所で車のリアゲートを開けて料理を楽しむ...など。車に乗って移動するというドライブをより楽しく刺激的にする。その延長に大陸を何日もかけて走るような過酷な旅もある。

 

オーバーランド、このテーマには実に深いものを感じる。

それは即ち、生き方(活き方、行き方)なのではないかと思っている。

トヨタの歩み (Toyota Historical Date)

 ニューヨーク州の州都アーバニーに住む、あるランクル好きのアメリカ人Johnny氏がランクルコミュニティサイトIH8MUDに連載してくれた、

 

Toyota Historical Data を紹介したい。

 

 アメリカ人の手によってが日本語ー>英語の翻訳の苦労も然る事もありながら2007年の10月から2009年の10月まで(まだ途中かもしれないが)2年間の時間を掛けて自分でコツコツと調べ挙げてフォームに投稿した力作である。ページ数は100ページに及ぶ要点をつまんだ内容であるが記載は全て英語である。幸いシンプルな英語なので車のモデル名、地名、パーツ名が分かれば大体の粗筋は理解できるのではないだろうか。

 ブログの規定が2万文字までという事もあり仕方なくページを分ける事になった。ここにこれを乗せたのは彼の努力を無駄にしない為に、そして自分のパソコンにのみ情報を仕舞い込んでいても仕方がないのでオープンにしておこうと思ったからだ。おそらく日本の何処かにはこれよりもずっと詳しく正確なトヨタについての情報が存在するのではないだろうかとは思う。

 トヨタの歴史を立体的に理解するために記述に世界で起こった情勢等も少し加えてみた。ランドクルーザーという世界的な4x4を生み出したトヨタの歩み、そしてその企業の存在の流れ、そして時代を立体的に理解する事によって現在に生きる私達がそこから勇気と力を得る事が出来るのではないかと思っている。

So the Super was updated, renamed the Master and sold alongside the Crown. When sales of the Crown proved worthwhile, the RR Master was discontinued in November 1956. Production facilities for the Master were transferred to the Crown.


The RR Master's body panels were used in cut-down form as an economical and fast way to design the new ST10 Corona in 1957. A later variant of the Crown was called the Masterline to distinguish it from other variants of the Crown.)

FJ in Saudi Arabia

IH8MUDに誰かが投稿したたサウジアラビアのヨンマルの写真を見つけた。

 新車のヨンマルの様だから当時の写真かな?と思って眺めていたが、お店に並んでいる様子ではなく個人の邸宅の敷地にある事からサウジのコレクターの40だと思われる。当初からのオリジナルなのかレストレーションされた物なのかは定かではない。

 

全て、ベージュ色(デザートタン)

 

実用的でシンプルなFJが実に美しい

この中庭ガレージ?もなかなかなですなぁ。

 

60の次は40に乗りたい!?

って思ってしまう程だ。

夏の重労働

 今年の夏は多忙であった、御盆の時期も含めて休日や休暇を全く取らなかった。

 6月から都合に合わせ空き時間を割いて知人宅の台所とキッチンのリノベーションを手伝ってきた。部屋の天上を落とし床を剥し、壁を張って新しい空間を創出する大工仕事を引き受けたのだ、僕にとって大工仕事は初めての経験であった。玄人と違い超素人なので要領は分からない、手際は悪い、正しい道具の使い方も知らない、そんなおやじが頭にバンダナを巻いて見よう見まねで作業を続けたのだった。

 

 

 体を動かして仕事が出来るという事は幸せな事なのかも知れない。誰かとワイワイやりながらの作業ではなく一人で黙々と心を無にしての作業時間が多かった。履いていたジーンズはボロボロに破れ垂れ落ちたペイントに染まった。愛用していた皮のグローブもこの夏で使命を終えた。

 残ったものは経験だった。人は年を重ねると新しい事を始めるのに躊躇する。体調や自分の過去の経験に縛られてなかなか一歩が踏み出しにくいもの(自分の事)だが、出来るかも知れないと少しでも感じるならば出来る内にまずやってみる。結論は自分の心が教えてくれる。

 仕事が一段落しなければ休めないというのが本音。だから夏休みはなかったのだ。

忙しい夏であったが、いい勉強にもなったなぁ!

 

そろそろ秋休みを...。
