What’s that coming over the hill? Is it a Monster? Not only was that a big hit for Welsh band The Automatic in 2006 but it’s also the reality: Nobuhiro “Monster” Tajima has made the hill his own thanks to eight Pikes Peak Unlimited class victories between 1992 and 2011.
When you meet him it becomes obvious where the nickname comes from: Tajima is a giant of man who bears an uncanny physical resemblance to Shrek. We met the refreshingly crazy Japanese driver behind the enormous hands:
RedBull.com: Tajima-san, you’re the most successful driver in the history of Pikes Peak. What’s the secret to your success Nobuhiro Tajima: A big heart and big hands! No, I believe we are fast and we have always had fast cars. I really believe in myself and my team. That’s the only secret: believe and drive fast! There’s nothing else….
RB: What has changed on your car since last year? NT: So last year, we had a problem. A big, big problem because our car is catching fire! So to stop this happening we improved the cooling and also we have an evolution on the batteries. Hopefully our car is faster and more reliable this time. If we did not catch fire we could have had the record last year: very disappointing.
RB: How important is experience here? NT: Quite important but track is changing all the time so each year you come here, experience is reset to zero. This is why I like Pikes Peak.
RB: You’ve run the Suzuki World Rally Team in the past and won your class in the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship. You also own your own team and a series of car dealerships in Japan. Is there anything else you want to do? NT: No time to do anything else! With business I am very busy and now Pikes Peak is the only race I do. But cars is my big passion and also I am a bit like Sebastien Loeb as one of my dealership businesses is Peugeot. We also have Mitsubishi and Suzuki. But I will always do Pikes Peak and maybe one day I will fly to the moon! I would like that.
RB: How hard is it to drive an electric car with no noise? NT: At first very strange! But you get used to it quickly. Different to driving a petrol car and maybe harder as you cannot use your ears to help drive, just your eyes and your feeling. You need a very sensitive feel to drive electric car quickly, more than a petrol car.
RB: Some people say that Sebastien Loeb will get under the eight-minute barrier this year. What do you think? NT: Impossible! I think Sebastien will do a time of maybe 8m30s and we will hopefully do a time of 9m30s. Our target is to win the electric class but there are many fast drivers there.

This is a 1986 Toyota Land Cruiser. This is an original 100% rust free California example.
This FJ-60 runs, drives and looks amazing. The engine starts on the first try and runs extremely well. There are no leaks, smoke, overheating or strange noises. The clutch feels great and shifting through all the gears is a pleasure. The 4x4 operates perfectly. Mechanically she is in tip top condition. The truck handles the road superbly and the entire drivetrain is solid and tight. All mechanical. electrical and climate control systems are in excellent working condition. The air conditioning blows strong cold air. The brakes, steering and suspension are A++.
Cosmetically this vehicle is stunning! The paint finish has a beautiful shine and there are no major imperfections. The body, chassis and frame are 100% rust free since new. Nice chrome bumpers/bumper ends. Excellent chrome wheels and near new Michelin tires.
The interior is also in wonderful original condition showing only normal wear. The seats look great as does the dash. The glove compartment door does have a dent (see pic)
-No faceplate for the radio
The carpeting does have some wear and minor discoloration. The door panels and headliner are very nice. Some of the speaker grilles on the door panels do have some cracked and missing pieces
I was able to participate in Cruise Moab this year and it really was a blast!! For my first trail run I signed up for Fins and Things and it is a pretty fun trail (even though we ran it very slow.) This is just a compilation of some of my favorite climbs and drops on the trail and obviously there are some regular film clips but there is also GoPro Hero 2 footage which I hope you guys enjoy!
