日本語でも伝わったブカレストからのニュース、フランスのスパイダーマン、ルーマニア首都のインターコンチネンタルに登る。先週金曜日のこと。午後2時から登り始め、わずか15分で登頂。
このスパイダーマンはフランスのアラン・ロベール(Alain Robert)さん、子供のころから高いところに登るのが大好きで、これまでに80箇所以上の高層建築物に登っているのです。かれの快挙は、登るためのロープや救命具としてのロープを使わずに、素手で成し遂げられています。

ルーマニアの誇る五つ星ホテル・インターコンチネンタルは、わずか90ｍ。彼にとっては朝飯前(child’s play)？ が、ホテル正面のバルコニー側は凹凸が大きく、側面のタイルはわずか2センチしか指先が引っかかるところが無いのです。ルーマニアのショーＴＶに出演したときに、どちら側から登るか、話題集中。
そして当日。スパイダーマンが壁面に密着して登るさまを見るために集まった200人あまりの観衆たちはがっかり、短時間で登りきったのは、ロープを使ったのです。期待が大きかったのに、裏切られた気分。屋上まで登ってほしかったし。
フランスからスパイダーマンを招聘して、インターコンチネンタルに登るようす、これは良い宣伝になります。が、おおかたの見方は、スポンサーが余りお金を出さなかったから、スパイダーマンはリスクを犯すのを避け、無難にロープを使って登ったのではないか、とのこと。

Alain Robert, the most famous urban climber in the world, arrived to Romania and will scale the Hotel Intercontinental on Friday, starting at 2 pm. He will scale the building with his bare hands, without any ropes or protection gear. The Frenchmen only know what the building looks like but he will not exercise at all. The Intercontinental is 90 meters tall. The French has two options. He will either scale the balconies or the side of the hotel, where panels have two-cm spaces between them.
He climbed the highest building in the world in only six hours and now he is in Romania to show his talent. Alain Robert, also known as Spiderman, will climb the Hotel Intercontinental on Friday, 14th.
“Spiderman is my nickname but I have no supernatural powers. When I climb skyscrapers, there are no special effects, no safety net,” Alain said. “Climbing became a passion very early, when I was a kid,” he said during the show Happy Hour, invited by host Catalin Maruta.
Spiderman said climbing one of the Petronas Towers was one of the biggest challenges in his life. “I was risking three years in jail but in the end, the Malaysian prime minister gave me an envelope with money,” the climber recalled.
Alain has so far scaled over 80 skyscrapers, such as Burj Kalifa (828 m), Petronas Towers (452 m), Golden Gate Bridge (227 m) or Eiffel Tower (313 m).

【10月15日 AFP】フランスの「スパイダーマン」ことアラン・ロベール（Alain Robert）さん（48）が14日、ルーマニアの首都ブカレスト（Bucharest）の高層建築の1つ、インターコンチネンタルホテル（Intercontinental Hotel）に登った。
地上では200人あまりが、ロープとハーネスを使ってバルコニー伝いに22階建てのホテルを登るロベールさんに声援を送ったり、写真を撮ったりした。
ロベールさんは屋上の数メートル下で登頂を中断し、スポンサーとなったルーマニアの小売業者の垂れ幕を掲げた。ロベールさんの登頂を4歳の娘とともに見守っていた女性は、「本当にすごいことだけど、できれば屋上まで登ってほしかった」と話した。
