sweet memories

Why do I miss him so much today? He has been dead for 31 years. But I always feel as if it had only been yesterday. I know my husband died. Alas! I wish he were alive somewhere on earth.

I've just had a call from one of his friends. I was surprised to have a call from my husband's friend when I was thinking of him (my husband) with love. He is a brain doctor, too. He and my husband were co-workers. They were very good friends.

He has sent me the first tea of the season for 31 years since my husband's death. He sends me boiled eels (unagi) in summer and a box of oranges in winter every year.

I heartily thank for the gifts he sends me. What makes me very happy is the fact that he never forgets my husband. It's very kind of him to remember my husband so long. I don't know how to express my thanks.

Why do I miss him so much today? Because I am planning to go back to Niigata where my husband and I lived. I will stay in our own house for a week or so, where nobody lives now.

This is one of my favorite song, which I feel as if my husband were saying to me:

Sayonara

Sayonara
Sweet memories, It's good bye
Sayonara
Don't look back
Don't ask why.
The time to come will come
And you will go alone
Keep to your heart, Sayonara.

And so my friend
Now it must end
Now you're grown
I can't stay on
Think of the memories we've known

Carefully feeling your way
You're getting stronger each day
How can I find words to say
I'll miss you

Sayonara
Sweet memories, It's good bye
Sayonara
Don't look back
Don't ask why
The time to come will come
And you will go alone
Keep to your heart, Sayonara.
