my hearty thanks to President Barack Obama

The time to come has come.

I do not know
how to express my thanks
to you, President Obama,
for visiting HIROSHIMA.

When you started your speech with the following:

Seventy-one years ago, on a bright cloudless morning, death fell from the sky and the world was changed. A flash of light and a wall of fire destroyed a city and demonstrated that mankind possessed the means to destroy itself.

I was almost trembling all over.

Your speech was longer than I had expected.

I knew you were very careful about your language.

Your speech was so impressive.

When you walked to a few atomic bomb survivors,
and spoke to them, shaking hands with them
or hugging a gentleman close, it was difficult to choke
back my tears.

The world was forever changed here, but today the children of this city will go through their day in peace. What a precious thing that is. It is worth protecting, and then extending to every child. That is a future we can choose, a future in which Hiroshima and Nagasaki are known not as the dawn of atomic warfare but as the start of our own moral awakening.

The very last part of your speech is very important.

Let's have courage
to build a better future
for our children.

to an art gallery in Ginza

One of my blog friends, kasho-san, wrote that
her daughter mayu-chan’s painting is now exhibited
in ギャラリー美庵 in Ginza.

Today Ms. M and I visited ギャラリー美庵 in Ginza.
and enjoyed mayu-chan's painting 不動明王.

It was a majestic and dignified 不動明王.

Mayu-chan has Down's syndrome.
She is very good at painting and Japanese dance.

Then Ms. M and I walked to 銀座凮月堂 to have lunch.

Ms.M and I did not walk a lot today.

We talked a long talk over lunch—afternoon tea set.

中央通り was crowded with a lot of people as usual.

It was a nice Saturday today.

Thank you so much, Ms. M.

Hiroshige's Ukiyo-e World

On Sunday I went to Suntory Museum of Art
with some of my friends.

The museum is on the 3rd floor in Tokyo Midtown Galleria.

We went there to enjoy:

The Hara Yasusaburo Collection
HIROSHIGE VIVID

Thanks to 原 安三郎(1884-1982), a leader in the
Japanese business world, we could enjoy 広重’s
masterpieces, 名所江戸百景 or 六十余州名所図会.

葛飾北斎’s 22 works were also exhibited there.

I enjoyed Hiroshige’s Ukiyo-e prints world.
I was happy to find many of my favorite places
there.

We had a very late lunch at 酢重ダイニング六角
in Tokyo Midtown.

We, four ladies, had a long, relaxed talk together.

What a happy time I had!
Thank you so much, ladies.

============================

I used to call 広重 「安藤広重」, not 「歌川広重」.
How about you?

a month since Kumamoto Earthquake

It is a month since 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake
hit the Kumamoto and Ohita area.

What a life full of hardships!

A month has passed and about 11000 people are
still living in evacuation shelters.

I've been thinking of those people who manage to
keep up their spirits.

A little school boy said, “I've noticed 'my usual days
before the earthquake' were very important and precious days.

How I wish I could start my usual life again!”

I heartily hope the day will come
when they will enjoy a life of happiness.

the sky, at 10 this morning

It was raining all day yesterday.

After doing my household chores, I went to my daughter's
to check all the windows and doors were locked.

Though it was a rainy day, I was busy walking to the City Hall,
M Bank or a supermarket.

To my surprise, I walked 20207 steps yesterday!

How will the weather be today?

Will it be a fine day?
Will it be a cloudy day?
Will it be a rainy day?

I'm going to my daughter's house anyway.

I hope the weather will improve
in Kumamoto.
