All Forms Of Disposable Plastic Banned In Delhi-NCR!

The capital has put its foot down in one aspect of pollution dealing with plastics by banning all types of disposable plastics throughout Delhi-NCR.
Last year in December the National Green Tribunal passed a law that banned disposable plastic and that law came into force on the first day of 2017. Included in the ban are bags, chai cups and cutlery.
Banning disposable plastic is a huge step for the capital and the country because India is among the top four biggest plastic polluters in the world, responsible for around 60% of the 8.8 million tons of plastic that is dumped into the world’s oceans every year.
This step is in part a reaction to three local dumping sites in Okhla, Gazipur and Bhalswa, which operate as waste-to-energy plants but according to residents in the vicinity, illegal mass burning technology causes air pollution.
The National Green Tribunal said in a statement, “Each of these sites is a depiction of the mess that can be created for environment and health of people of Delhi."
“We direct that use of disposable plastic is prohibited in entire NCT of Delhi.”
It added that INR 10,000 environment compensation will be imposed on vegetable vendors and slaughterhouses if they throw garbage in public places.

In a huge win for the environment, India has banned plastic in Delhi. The ban includes bags, cups and cutlery.
India’s National Green Tribunal (NGT) introduced the ban following complaints of illegal burning of plastic and other waste at three local rubbish dumps. The ban took effect on the first day of 2017.
The illegal burning of waste was said to have been contributing to air pollution, which is a major problem in India. In a recent report by the World Health Organisation, New Delhi was found to have the worst air quality out of the 1,600 cities that were analyzed. India actually had 13 out of the top 20 most polluted cities. It is also the world’s biggest polluter after the USA and China.

Plastic pollution is a major problem around the world. An astonishing 8.8 million tons of plastic makes its way into our oceans every year. A massive 60%t of the plastic waste in the oceans is said to have come from India, according to the Times of India.
The biggest problem with plastic waste is that it never breaks down, it just breaks into smaller and smaller pieces and leaches chemicals into the water. It is also a fatal hazard for fish birds and marine life who mistakenly eat it.
Approximately 100,000 marine creatures die every year from becoming entangled in plastic. Devastating photos emerged last week revealing the contents of a dead whale’s stomach. It contained 30 plastic bags as well as other plastic items.
Australian environmentalist and plastic pollution crusader Tim Silverwood, has seen first hand the mismanagement of waste in India and what that means for the world’s oceans.
“The most profound moment happened when I was snowboarding in the Himalaya and discovered that all the waste generated by the mountain village was dumped over the side of a pristine mountain. That was their ‘away’. It shook me to the core, on my journey I’d seen the shocking ocean pollution throughout Indo, SE Asia and India but here I was amongst the tallest, most beautiful mountains on earth witnessing trash (that I had a hand in creating) starting it’s long migration to the sea. ” Tim Silverwood told Surf Careers.
The new plastic ban in Delhi is an important step in combatting the growing pollution problem in India.

たしかに使い捨てプラスチックの禁止自体はいいことだと思うのですが、これって企業の製造を止めているのでしょうか？インドのメーカーがペットボトルやビニール袋を作るのをやめないことには、市民は使い続けるでしょう。山の中のゴミの捨て方を見ると、残念ながら環境倫理がないようです。市民に責任を被せるとなると、ますますこっそり山の中に持っていって捨てる行為が増えるだけではないかと思います。
現在、環境中に出されてしまっているゴミの片付けと、上流の生産縮小中止を同時にすすめていくことが最も効果があるのではないでしょうか。
まずはプラスチックゴミをつくった企業に責任を取らせないことには始まりません。
騙されて買った市民にも、ポイ捨てした市民にも責任はありますが、つくった企業もゴミを始末する責任があります。
マイクロプラスチックという厄介なゴミの片付けをメーカーにさせなければなりません。
あとは、次世代がやるだろうという問題の先送りは、原発のゴミだけでなく、あらゆる工業生産のゴミに及んでいます。
プラスチックゴミは私たちの欲望の残骸です。
山の中にプラスチックゴミを捨てると、それが流れて海に到達し海を汚染していくことを想像できる市民がどのくらいいるでしょうか？
