(in Barcelona, Spain :
Are you interested in Antonio Gaudi's works?)
My first trip to Europe was coming to an end. The last city I stayed in was Barcelona, Spain.
The day before I arrived in Barcelona, I heard, there was a march against The Iraqi War. I saw banners saying "NO BUSH NO TERRORISTS NO SADAM HUSAYN." I felt embarrassed when I realized that I was traveling only to enjoy myself.
Anyway, I was in Barcelona on Feb. 17, 2003. I enjoyed a whole day there. Of course, one whole day was not enough to watch Barcelona. There were so many museums I wanted to visit. I heard there were more than 70 museums in Barcelona.
The purpose of my visiting Barcelona was to watch and enjoy Antonio Gaudi's works.
First I went to see Temple de la Sagrada Familla, The Temple of the Holy Family. It had three monumental fronts. The east front was dedicated to the Birth of Christ, the west front was dedicated to the Passion and Death, and the south front, the facade of the Glorification.
A dome and the four large towers into the beautiful blue sky ! All carvings on the walls, doors, or pillars were impressive. The east front, the Birth of Christ, was Gaudi's monumental work, I heard.
Walking on the main street, I went to Casa Batllo, the Batllo house, which was reconstructed by Gaudi. Its mosaic front and tiled roof were beautiful. Then I walked ten minutes and came to Casa Mila, the Mila house. It was also designed by Gaudi. All sculptural forms of the house had curves. I spent one hour there.
I went to Palau Guell. Then I visited El parc Guell, The Park Guell. Guell decided to construct a garden city and commissioned the project to Gaudi. I saw a lot of Gaudi's works here and there in the park. I sat on the bench designed by Gaudi. I'm sure children will like that garden.
In Barcelona there are many buildings acknowledged by UNESCO as World Heritage sites. I'd like to visit Barcelona again some day. (the end )
