daffodils, again

I like daffodils. Yesterday, on my way back from Kunitachi City, I saw a house with a low fence of rocks. Wow! I saw lovely daffodils growing upward among those rocks. The scene reminded me of the word valley. The daffodils reminded me of "the lily of the valley. "

Suddenly an old song , I should say "a hymn," occurred to me. One of my Christian friends taught me the song in my school days. It was the melody of one of those Japanese children's songs.

I had believed the song was a Japanese one. It was not. It was only a part of the famous hymn, Everybody ought to know. I would often sing the latter half of the hymn in Japanese when I was a child. Of course, you know the song, I think.

Everybody ought to know,
Everybody ought to know
Everybody ought to know
Who Jesus is.

He's the lily of the valley,
He' the bright morning star
He's the fairest of ten thousands
Everybody ought to know

I sang this hymn a few times at a Christian funeral. It sounds so sad, so pure and so bright--yes, plenty of light. This song brings me back old memories.
