St.Valentine's Day

On February 14 in 2003 I was walking along The Promenade des Anglais - the grand boulevard along the bay - in Nice, France. Nice was a lovely, sunny city on the Mediterranean. There were elegant, deluxe buildings here and there.

There were also the enchanting Chagall and Matisse museums and a vast new modern art museum. Oh, I remember Chagall's pictures --painted on The Old Testament. Chagall used red for love, blue for life and yellow for hope, the French guide said.

While I was walking, I saw several flower stands and some gentlemen were getting flowers. Then I noticed almost all gentlemen I saw had a rose or a small bouquet of roses. Someone told me that in Nice they gave roses to their girlfriends or wives on St. Valentine's Day. 'Gentlemen with flowers' completely captured my heart. It was just like a scene in a movie, I thought.

Now talking of St.Valentine's Day in Japan, I'm afraid there are boys and gentlemen worrying about chocolate. My fear may be groundless, because I read in the newspaper that girls are increasing who give chocolate to themselves or girls who do not give chocolate to their bosses out of social obligation but give only to the one they are really after. By the way. do you give chocolate to your ???
