I belong to the Jack and Betty generation. English was an elective subject and there were few who studied English in my junior high school・・・one class for English and the other four classes for vocational subject. Oh, How I feel nostalgia for the English textbook Jack and Betty!
English was my favorite subject. Jack and Betty led me into another wonderful world I did not know. Those sentences such as 'This is a book.'or 'This is a pen.'---though they are bitterly criticized--- made me happy and excited. I read Jack and Betty aloud and memorized every sentence in it every day. 50 years have not dimmed my memory.
There were no movie theaters nor any foreign people in my town. I had never seen any English movies nor any English speaking people. But I listened to the radio English program every morning. Thanks to Jack and Betty I entered a university and had a major in English literature. I sincerely wished I could study English abroad but I could not afford it financially.
Years have gone by since. I'm afraid I've forgotten quite a lot of English words I memorized. So I'm decided to write something in English--- here, everyday. Then I will remember English, which, I hope, will make me revive. I hope I am full of life to my end.
