こちらも選曲の原形自体は以前からあったものを最近コンパイルしたもの。先日、新作アルバムを発表したばかりのポール・ウェラー御大によるソロ期以降のマイベストです。元々は2015年にSaturns Patternをリリースしたタイミングで選曲を開始したのですが、そのときまでの曲だけではイマイチ納得いく選曲に仕上げられなかったため、その後にリリースされた曲をポツポツと追加しながら、ようやく今回まとめることができました。以下選曲リスト。

熱く激しいジャム時代やお洒落でポップなスタカン時代とは打って変わって、ソロになってからのウェラーの曲は円熟味の増した大人のロックがメインなのですが、その中でも個人的にどこかソウルを感じられる曲を中心にセレクトしています。選曲全体の肝として意識したのは、シスター・スレッジのカバーとなるThinking of You。僕自身もその昔、7インチの発売と同時にこのブログで取り上げていますが、いわゆる渋谷系やフリーソウル好きの人は、アレで現在進行形のウェラーの魅力を再認識したってパターンが多いと思うんですよね。あのカバーで聴かせる何とも言えない絶妙な枯れ加減を自分なりに80分に拡張したのが、今回の選曲です。ロック畑の人からすると選曲に納得がいかないこともあるかもしれませんが、まぁそれはご容赦を。一応、選曲的にはソロ1作目のアルバムから最新作、山ほどあるアルバム未収のB面曲に外仕事まで幅広く網羅しているので、興味があれば聴いてみてください。特にスタカン以外はあまり触れたことがないという人に試してみてもらえると嬉しいです。

久しぶりに作ってみた大物アーティストのマイベストもの。界隈では泣く子も黙る（？）ニューソウル四天王の一角、カーティス・メイフィールドの作品集です。実は選曲のベース自体はかなり前から僕のitunesプレイリスト中にあったのですが、今回コロナ禍で時間があったのでまとめあげてみました。以下選曲リスト。

この人の場合、熱心なファンの間では70年代初頭のソロ1stやSuperflyサントラがフォーカスされがちで、ディスコ期以降の作品については「駄作」と評されることも少なくないのですが、僕の好みの音が70年代後半以降の都会的な質感ということもあり、80年代以降の楽曲を中心に選曲してみました。一応、本家フリーソウルからもベスト盤や二種類の編集盤がリリースされていますが、個人的には今回の選曲の方がよっぽど僕の思うフリーソウルの雰囲気に近いと思います。選曲タイトルはこの時期のカーティスを評して、よく言われる「愛の伝道師」から。とは言え、スロウな曲ばかりでなくアップテンポでダンサンブルなナンバーも収録しています。思いつきで作ったわけでなく、結構曲順は練ってあるので出来はそれなりにいいはず。良かったら聴いてみてください。
