heaviest snow in 16 years in Tokyo

2014-02-08 18:18:00 | ノンジャンル
Yesterday it was such a beautiful day
that I could not believe “a heavy snow warning for Tokyo”
issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency.

This morning I was surprised to find the snow was coming
down heavily.

The Agency makes an accurate forecast these days.

Last evening when I went to a supermarket, many vegetables,
fish or meat were sold out.

This morning I went to another supermarket to get groceries.
I walked about 25 minutes along the snowy road.

A little girl was making a snowman in the parking lot.

On the way back to my apartment I walked along
Tamagawa-josui.

(at 2:30pm, from my room)

NHK said 450 people were injured in snow-related
accidents in the Kanto district.

We'll have further snowfall during the night and
early tomorrow.

It's now blowing hard.

I'm afraid there will be more snow-related accidents.

Let's watch our step!

P.S.(written on Feb.9)

The heaviest snow , 27 centimeters of snow, in 45 years
was recorded in Tokyo!

This is a snow-rabbit made by koharu, my granddaughter.
It has ears of 枇杷の葉 and a tail of 南天の枝.

on a beautiful day like this

It is so cold.
It is so windy.
The sky is blue.
The sun is glowing in all its splendor.

I'm sorry I am not cheerful
on such a beautiful day.

Why?

Because I'm not decided yet whom I should
vote for in the Tokyo gubernatorial election.

There are no candidates I'd like to back.

But I will go and vote at the election.

Yokohama China Town

Yesterday the weather began to clear around noon,
though weather forecast was for rain.

I decided to go to 中華街 in Yokohama.

I wanted to see many people looking happy in New Year.

I had lunch quickly and hurried to Shibuya Station.

I got on a train on 東急東横 Line for 元町・中華街駅.

It was my first time to go to Yokohama by way of 渋谷.

I got off my train at 元町・中華街駅.

I didn't know which way to go and followed after people
walking there.

I went into 中華街 from this gate.

Some people were doing something in the square
to celebrate New Year.

I wanted to see what was going on there but could not.
I only looked at people from behind.

Many people were coming to the temple to pray earnestly.

They looked calm and happy.

I turned back and enjoyed walking along some side roads.

Every road was crowded.

I bought 天津甘栗 for my daughter's family.

I came out of this gate and walked to 石川町駅.

I got off at 川崎駅 and changed trains there for 立川
on 南武線.

I walked 10078 in a day.
