koharu makes me happy

2011-07-12 23:55:00 | ノンジャンル
I was waiting for koharu, my granddaughter,
to come home from school.

I sheltered from the summer heat under a tree
along Tamagawa-josui.

The tree was keyaki 欅.
It was a big green tree.
"How old is it?" I wondered.

The wind was blowing.
I could hear leaves rustling gently.

The sky was blue.
No cloud was to be seen.

I saw a girl in the distance.
The girl was waving gaily to me.
Oh! It was koharu!

"No, don't run, koharu!" I shouted.
I myself ran to her.

The sweat was pouring down koharu's face.

No air conditioner is installed in her school.
38 boys and girls study in a hot and stuffy room.

I remember my good old elementary school days.
There were 60 boys and girls in my class!

There were no air conditioners, nor refrigerators
nor electric fans.

It is natural that it's hot in summer.
But even so, isn't it too hot this summer?

(no cloud is to be seen)

an American's family reunion

2011-07-09 23:37:00 | ノンジャンル
Our teacher of Friday English Circle went home
to America and stayed there for two weeks.

She went back to America to attend her husband's
family reunion which is held every three years.

She came back to Japan at the end of June
and she told us a little about the family reunion.

The family reunion was held in Texas,
where her husband's parents live.

About 100 people gathered in the camping site
in Texas, she said.

One hundred people!
They all have home ties!
How close their family ties are!

They seemed to have enjoyed the family reunion
very much.

They had an auction there.

Every family put a thing for the auction.

Our teacher got a large piece of patchwork quilt
made of many patterns in shape of Texas.

A star was quilted in each shape of Texas.
It showed how they all loved Texas, I thought.

She said she would hang the quilt on a wall
as a decoration.

It was a very warm family reunion, I thought.

(Do you see the shape of Texas?)

(Do you see a atar in Texas?)

busy Wednesday

In the morning I visited my doctor.

My blood pressure was 140-88.

In the afternoon I attended Wednesday English Class.

I enjoyed role-playing in the situations of possibility,
probability and warnings.

The skit itself was easy to read but to say with feeling
was rather difficult.

I enjoy Wednesday English Class very much.

On the way home I bought a branch of bamboo for the Star
Festival and hurried to my granddaughter's with it.

Today a boy and four girls came to koharu's house
and enjoyed chatting, singing, drawing or eating.

They were excited to write their wishes on origami and
decorated the bamboo branch for the Star Festival.

They all looked so happy.

I hope it will be fine tomorrow.
