two fresh surprises

In Japan March is the season for graduation
ceremonies and April for entrance ceremonies.

On March 15 I attended Friday English Class
after a long absence.

I had two fresh surprises
as follows:

(1)
Our teacher lives on the Yokota Air Base.
She has two daughters.

The elder daughter will be the 3rd year student
in a Japanese public elementary school in April.

The younger daughter will enter the same school
as her sister in April.

Our teacher told us that there are no entrance nor
graduation ceremonies in American public elementary
and junior high school.

But high-school graduation ceremonies are held and
they are very impressive ones, she said.

(2)
In Japan we usually have to attach our own photograph
on our applicant's resume(履歴書).

But in America there is no place for a photograph
on a resume---probably not to practice racial discrimination.

I did not know about these examples.
It's natural each nation is different from every other nation.
