red ribbon day in NZ

Oh, I remember it was a very hot day in early summer in New Zealand. It was my first time to visit a foreign country in my life. I stayed in Christchurch for a month, staying with an English couple who were about my age and had lived in NZ for more than 30 years.

I was 59 years old then and it was my first adventure in life. I kept a diary every day during my stay in Christchurch in NZ.

On the last day of November, four years ago, I was walking the streets of Christchurch, New Zealand. Suddenly I was spoken to by a lady at a corner of a street. She was collecting donations for AIDS Funds. I gave her some money and she gave me a paper seal, which is a mark with a special design of RED RIBBON on it.

She said to me, "December 1, tomorrow, is World AIDS Day 2001. Please put this paper seal on your chest. It means you are a supporter of people living with HIV. Thank you very much. By the way, are you from Japan? Do you have 'RED RIBBON DAY?' "Yes, I'm from Japan but I'm sorry I have never heard of RED RIBBON DAY." I answered.

Yesterday when I was listening to the radio, an announcer said, "It is December 1. Today is World AIDS Day 2005." Yes, I know about it, but do they sell RED RIBBONS in Japan?
