Friday English Circle

In the first half of our class we talked about our week.

I talked about my harmonica solo.

I also talked about those 33 miners raised safely in Chile.

I find it more and more difficult to speak in English
since I do not use English in my daily life.

In the latter half of our class we read a small story
from "Chicken Soup".

Can you forgive a boy who killed your son whom you
raised as a single parent?

It was a true story how she, his mother, came to forgive
a boy who killed her beloved 21-year-old son.

Our teacher brought chocolate candies for us.
Thank you, Ms.CaHill.

Showa Kinen Park, with koharu

Yesterday I took koharu, my granddaughter,
to Showa Kinen Park.

I thought cosmoses in Showa Kinen Park
would be at their best. Yes, I was right.

koharu and I took a bus to Kokubunji St.
Then we went to Tachikawa on Chuo Line.

Many people were enjoying a crisp autumn
in Showa Kinen Park.

koharu and I ate onigiri-lunch, viewing the beautiful
cosmos field.

"Amazing!" koharu said. She was excited.
After lunch we walked about in the cosmos field.

What a happy time we had!

Kominkan-matsuri 2010

2010-10-10 21:29:00 | ノンジャンル
Today 'Kominkan-matsuri 2010' was over.

What a relief!

I made it!

I played a harmonica solo--my first, and maybe last,
solo in my life.

I felt my heart beating faster and faster with uneasiness.

I was sure that uneasiness was raising my blood pressure.

I usually have high blood pressure (150-87), though I take
medicine.

A terrible thirst consumed me.

At last the time did come!

I played a solo-- ”Auld Lang Syne”.

They all said that I did a solo well for a learner.

Four songs we played on the harmonica were--
白雲の城・恋心・学生時代・童謡メドレー.

I am now enjoying a sense of accomplishment.

Thank you very much for cheering me.

the 2010 Nobel Prize in chemistry

Congratulations!

The news that two Japanese researchers
won the 2010 Nobel Prize in chemistry
made us all excited.

We haven't had any good news lately.
We have been feeling so gloomy.

I heartily hope young Japanese researchers
will follow them.

Thank you very much for encouraging us,

鈴木章先生 and 根岸英一先生.

I'm nervous.

2010-10-06 11:10:00 | ノンジャンル
I am now very nervous, for Sunday is coming soon.
We are having Kominkan-matsuri '10 this Sunday.

We, 14 Harmonica members, will play four songs
on the harmonica.

It was decided that three of us should give a
solo performance before that.

Two best players of us decided to play a solo
at once. Both of them were gentlemen.

Our teacher suggested the last one be a lady.
But no lady, including me of course, wanted to
play a solo before the audience.

"Anyone?" our teacher said to us again and again.
Silence filled the room.
And I broke the silence.

"Yes, I will, if you don't mind I'm not a good player."

So, I am now feeling very nervous.

Go for it, karin!
