10月17日の「Astrobiology Mgazine」にマーク・ワトニーが生き残りを掛けて火星を移動したルートが描かれています。
1から5までは、約3,200kmです。
（JRで稚内から枕崎：日本縦断で3,194km、万里の長城：2,700km、東京－新大阪を新幹線で約3往復）
ワトニーが宇宙生物学者で急いで帰る必要がなかったら見所満載の素晴らしい地域だとの事です。（ウーム・・・）

これがあれば、火星で道に迷うことはなさそうです。（他の問題は、さて置き）
(1) 乗ってきたAres3の着陸地点、The fictional Ares 3 landing site in southern Acidalia Planitia. （49.8°N 339.3°Eを中心とした広大な地域）
(2) Pathfinderの着陸地点、Carl Sagan Memorial Station (Landing site of the NASA Pathfinder mission)
(3) Marwth Vallis（Curiosityの着陸候補地にもなった生命が発見出来そうな地域）、Marwth Vallis
(4) Opportunityの居る場所、Meridiani Planum and the site of NASA’s Opportunity rover
(5) Ares4着陸予定地（ここにMAV（火星上昇機）がAres4のクルーがくるのを待っている）、Schiaparelli crater.
