The key of successful projects in International development field would be to identify reliable staff in the country. Honestly, I am never able to work well in Sri Lanka without National (I mean Sri Lankan) staff.
Last week, we identified one of our engineering staff has been demanding some kickbacks from a few contractors at the field. After discussion with HR unit, today I called him to tell to leave our organization tomorrow because of his unprofessional services. I think he immediately understood what I indicated and he accepted his leave. I also tried to advise that he must be honest at work but his last words to me was that he would not care my saying because I am not his boss anymore. That’s so true and I lost my meaning why I have been here. It is more than ten times that I fired somebody at work in twenty months. Too sad to work positively for a while. I probably should learn more how to let things go as they would do anyway.
