Dragon Egg Cake, no less!

shelly のfacebook のアルバムから探し出しました！
I found other photos of her fantastic cakes in her facebook album.
(and asked her to let me use them here)


how clever of her to think of using 2 different size and shape baking tins!
It would look like an egg when these 2 cakes are put together.
I would never be able to get the inspiration.
二つの大きさも形も違う型を使って焼き上がったケーキをくっつけるれば卵の形になる、と思いつくところがスゴイ。
ワタクシ絶対に考え付かないわ。

and this part is even more ingenious!
I believe the egg is now covered with meringue.
そしてもっとスゴイのが、くっつけて卵形にしたケーキをメレンゲで包んでもう一度焼いたこと！

Meringue, when baked, gets cracked in some places. and is easily separated from the cake when sliced/cut, and look just like the broken eggshell.
I am certain that she had those effects in her mind.
I take my hat off and salute to her ingenuity.

メレンゲは焼きあがると所々にヒビが入るんですよ。
しかも、中のケーキはもう焼けているので、ケーキを切るとメレンゲはあたかも卵の殻のように壊れるはず。
どこまでも素晴らしい想像力！ 脱帽！　敬礼っ！

ohhhh! I see butter cream is sandwiched, so she not only thought of the shape, but also paid attention to the taste.
This, I call, very considerate. It is a cake after all, so should be eaten and ENJOYED. as I am very sure everyone did!

This cake is also for the girl for whom shelly baked the balloon cake. What a lucky girl!!
Shelly made this cake for the 1st birthday of the girl, who was born in the year of dragon. Splendid idea!
今年のお誕生日にバルーンケーキを焼いてもらった女の子、1歳のバースデイケーキはこの dragon egg ケーキだったんですね。（なんてラッキーな子！）
辰年生まれなんだそうですよ。
日本語では「辰」ですが、英語だと the year of the dragon（竜）なんですねー。 ゆえに「ドラゴン登場！　卵だけど」

shelly's amazing cakes その2 bear cake

ケーキなんですって！　可愛すぎるでしょ！

やっぱりぬいぐるみにしか見えない！！
shelly は、才能があるだけでなく優しいのです。
「材料だけで良いから教えて～」とのワタクシのおねだりに快く応え、作り方を図入りで説明してくれました。
（赤字はshelly が送ってくれた文章です。）
this is how i made the bear...i used a chocolate sponge recipe for the cake. it's quite a heavy sponge and is easy to cut into shapes.
i made 2 round cakes. the large one was 8inches and the small one 5.5inches.
i used the large one for the body and arms by cutting out this shape:
チョコレートケーキのレシピを使いました。
重めのケーキなので形を切り出しやすい。
8インチのと5.5インチの丸型のケーキを焼いて、大きい方のケーキから胴体と腕を切り出しました。

i shaped the top and arms like this:
（胴体の）のトップと腕をこのように形作りました。
前から見たところ↓↓

i cut it in half horizontally and spread with butter icing and then put the halves back together. then i cut out some feet and stuck them on with butter icing
（図の点線部分で）水平に切ってバターアイシングを塗りました。　それから足の部分を切り出してバターアイシングで貼り付けました。

then i cut a flat bottom on the small cake for the head and rounded the edges.
頭用に小さいケーキの平たい底を切って丸みをつけました。
↓↓頭部分。左：前から見たところ　右：横からみたところ。

i also cut that in half long-ways and filled with butter icing.
then i stuck the head on using butter icing and some cocktail skewers to keep it secure. i made the nose out of fondant icing (coloured different tones of brown) and then the hands and feet i also used fondant on the ends. i made eyes from fondant and the ears. i used more cocktail skewers for the ears.
頭の部分は縦に切ってバターアイシングを詰めました。
それからアイシングとカクテルスキューワーを使って頭を胴体に固定。
色合いの違う茶色に染めたフォンダンを鼻、手、足に使いました。
フォンダンで目と耳も作りました。


then i used more butter icing for the fur. i piped it on randomly using a very small nozzle to make the squiggly texture.
and that's it!
アイシングを細い口金で絞り出して毛の質感を出しました。
出来上がりー！

って、簡単そうに言うけど、手間がかかってますわぁ。
でもなにより彼女の想像力に脱帽。　
絵を描いた平たいシートケーキは良く見るけどこういう立体的なケーキは見ない！　売ってない！！
shelly makes it sound so simple and easy, but to me it seems it's such a hard and time consuming work.
(I would never be able to make one, even though I have time and energy!
I admit I don't have the skill and, more importantly, IMAGINATION!←it is not something to boast about...)
Imagine the amount of work and energy she put in the cake!
More than anything I admire her ability to be able to visualise the end result of the 3 dimension cake!
AND!! Of course, the ability to create it!!!
A truly amazingly talented lady!

shelly's amazing cakes その１ balloon cake

むふふふ。　写真、並びに情報が手に入りましたわ♪
hooray!
shelly very kindly gave me, not only her permission for me to upload her photos, but also some detailed information.

ワタクシがchocolate frog を溶かしていた頃、shelly はバルーンケーキを焼いていたのでした。
彼女の友人のお嬢ちゃんの誕生日ケーキでした。
お嬢ちゃんはオレンジが好きなのでオレンジケーキにしたのだそうです。
While I was busy melting the chocolate frog, in London, shelly was creating a balloon cake.
It was for her friend's daughter. Shelly decided on an orange cake because the girl likes oranges.

横から見ると丸みが感じ取れないかもしれませんが…
It may look straight on the sides of the balloon in this photo, but..

ホラ！　ちゃーんと立体的になっているんですね。
サイドを削っているようです。
芸が細かいわぁ。
Look! It is just like a balloon!
Shelly took the trouble to scrape the sides to give roundness to the cake, I think. Attention to detail!
She is brilliant!

3歳のお誕生日だったんですね。　数字や模様はフォンダンで作ってあるようです。
色といい、形といい、可愛らしくてこんなオリジナルなケーキ作ってもらえるとは、なんてラッキーなお嬢ちゃん！

This cake greatly delighted me, but shelly made another one.
At first I thought this was a teddy bear she got for the girl as a birthday present!

Shelly, my daughter's friend created these cakes!
And she is not a pâtissière!
I am hoping to write more about them later.


えまっちのbridesmaid>を勤めてくれたShelly はとてもアーティスティックです。
一緒にペディキュアに行った時のHappy Feet の写真を撮って送ってくれました。　
Hen Tea ではこんなオシャレなセッティングをしてくれたり、Hen Tea でのゲームも考えてくれたり、と素敵に面白いわぁと思ってました。
とライバルダンス（ベリーダンス）もこなすshelly は、自分のヘッドドレスも作っちゃいます。
facebook に載っていた上のケーキの写真を見て「もっと写真見たいー！送ってぇ！」とお願いしました。
ただ今、更なる情報おねだり中。
後でもう少し詳しく書く予定。予定。予定。。。

って単語、ご存知でした？
恥ずかしながらワタクシ初耳でした。
えまっちのface book のコメントで目にしました。
あ！　初「耳」でなく目？

など。　動詞にも名詞にも使えるんだぁ。

日本語で検索するとHatena Keyword に
「偶然写真に紛れ込んでしまう」「写真を台無しにしてしまう」行為を指す。
現在では、誰かが写真を撮ろうとしている時に、後ろや横から写真に写り込むイタズラをさす場合が多い。
海外では、大きなイベントなどで有名人がフォトボムをすることがブームになっている。
と出ています。

photobombing という単語が初めてUrban Dictionaryに載ったのは2008年5月。同年8月までには一般的に使われるようになったんだそうです。
そうか、新しい言葉なんだぁ。ワタクシたったの7年遅れじゃないか。←十分遅いっ！
写真に写りこむということ自体はネット以前にも勿論あったのですが、photobomb という単語を初めて使ったのはU8IKという人で、数日のうちに爆発的に広まったらしいです。

photobomb で検索するとたくさんの写真が見られます。
でもコレ↓↓はphotbomb じゃないんじゃないのぉ？（ネットの向こう側にエリザベス女王デス！）
