民数記11，32～33。 民は出て行って、終日終夜、そして翌日も、うずらを集め、少ない者でも十ホメルは集めた。そして、宿営の周りに広げておいた。肉がまだ歯の間にあって、かみ切られないうちに、主は民に対して憤りを発し、激しい疫病で民を打たれた。
英文は So all that day,all night, and all the next day, the people worked catching quails; no one gathered less than fifty bushels. They spread them out to dry all around the camp. While there was still plenty of meat for them to eat, the Lord became angry with the people and caused an epidemic to break out among them.
「毎日毎日、マナ（神が空から降らせる食べ物）ばかりだ」と不満をたれるユダヤ人に、神はうずらを降らせる。そうしておいて・・・。なんとも陰湿なやり口だ。
ユダヤ人たちは言う。「エジプトでは魚をただで食べていたし、きゅうりやメロン、葱や玉葱やにんにくが忘れられない」（11，5）。やっぱり彼らは、モーセに騙されていたのにゃ。
