この本は、ニューヨーク市立大学のフレデリック・ザレー（Frederic SZALAY）さんによる編で、霊長類の古生態学・形態・進化について書かれた論文集です。原題は、『Approaches to Primate Paleobiology』で、直訳すると『霊長類古生物学へのアプローチ』となるでしょうか。ところが、困ったことに「古生物学」は「Paleontology」という単語がありますが、本書の「Paleobiology」も訳すと「古生物学」となってしまいます。1975年に、「霊長類学への貢献」シリーズの第5巻として、S. Kargerから出版されました。
