　この本は、大英博物館のスティード（I. M. Stead）さん、ボーク（J. B. Bourke）さん、ロンドン大学考古学研究所のドン・ブロスウェル（Don Brothwell）さんによる編集で、湿地帯から出土したミイラのリンドウ人について書かれたものです。原題は、『Lindow Man: The Body in the Bog』で、1986年に大英博物館から出版されました。

　このリンドウ・マンは、1984年8月1日に、イギリスの湿地帯で発見されました。様々な研究から、20代半ばの男性で、生前の身長約1.68m～1.73m、生前の体重約60kgと推定されています。年代は様々な方法で行われましたが、現在は、2BC～AD119の間におさまっているようです。

　本書は、リンドウ・マンについての学際的な報告書で、大変、参考になります。ちなみに、このリンドウ・マンの発見前、1983年5月13日に女性の遺体が発見されました。その直後、近くに住む男性が1960年に自分の妻を殺したことを告白します。この男性は、その妻の遺体が発見されたと思い込んで観念したわけですが、実際は約2,000年前の女性だと判明しました。

　この本は、元コペンハーゲン国立博物館館長の考古学者、ペーター・グロブ（Peter Vilhelm GLOB）［1911－1985］さんが、デンマークの湿地帯から出土した約3,000年前の青銅時代の人々について書いたものです。本書は、デンマークで出版されたものを英訳したもので、原題は、『The Mound  People』です。1983年に、Paladin Booksから出版されました。

　この本は、元コペンハーゲン国立博物館館長の考古学者、ペーター・グロブ（Peter Vilhelm GLOB）［1911－1985］さんが、デンマークの湿地帯から出土した鉄器時代の人々について書いたものです。本書は、デンマークで出版されたものを英訳したもので、原題は、『The Bog People』です。1969年に、Faber & Faber Limitedから出版されました。

　本書の内容は、以下のように、全6章からなります。

　この中で、トーロン・マン（沼沢死体）は、1950年に発見されましたが、当初は最近の絞殺死体だと間違えられたほど保存状態が良いものです。死亡年齢は約40歳の男性で、生前の身長は約1.61mと推定されています。また、年代は、約2,000年前と推定されています。死因は、首にロープが巻き付いた状態で発見されたことから、当初は絞殺と推定されましたが、最近では絞首刑だと推定されているようです。

  　

ミイラの洋書４．ミイラ・病気・古代文化

　この本は、アイダン・コックバーン（Aidan COCKBURN）［1912－1981］さん、イヴ・コックバーン（Eve COCKBURN）［1924－2003］さん、テオドア・レイマン（Theodore A. REYMAN）さんによる編で、ミイラについて書かれたものです。原題は、『Mummies, Disease & Ancient Culture』で、直訳すると「ミイラ・病気・古代文化」となるでしょうか。1980年に初版が出版され、本書は1998年にケンブリッジ大学出版から出版された第2版です。

　ちなみに、アイダン・コックバーンさんとイヴ・コックバーンさんはご夫婦で、1973年に創設された古病理学協会の創設メンバーです。

　この本は、ボブ・ブライアー（Bob BRIER）さんが、ミイラについて書いた事典です。原題は、『Encyclopedia of Mummies』で、直訳すると「ミイラの事典」となるでしょうか。1998年に、Facts On Fileから出版されました。

　本書では、エジプトのミイラのみならず、世界中のミイラについて書かれており、参考になります。日本のミイラも含まれています。また、巻末にはミイラを展示している博物館のリストや参考文献もついています。

　このミイラは僧侶のNesyamun（Netsef-Amn）のもので、1828年にイギリスのリーヅの博物館に購入され、研究された後で展示されました。しかし、1941年3月15日にドイツ軍による空爆でミイラの鼻が破損したそうです。この本は、1828年の研究以来、2度目の研究が行われた記録です。

　この本は、ミシガン大学歯科矯正学のジェームズ・ハリス（James E. HARRIS）さんとアメリカ大学カイロ校のケント・ウィークス（Kent R. WEEKS）さんが、エジプトミイラをＸ線（レントゲン）撮影した結果が書かれています。原題は、『X-Raying the Pharaohs』で、直訳すると「ファラオのX線（レントゲン）」となるでしょうか。1973年に、Charles Scribner's Sonsから出版されました。

　本書の内容は、以下のように、全5章からなります。
