　この本は、元ロンドン大学で現ウェンナー・グレン財団のレズリー・アイエロ（Leslie AIELLO）さんとロンドン大学解剖学教室のクリストファー・ディーン（Christopher DEAN）さんが、ヒトと古人類・霊長類との比較解剖について書いたものです。原題は『An Introduction to Human Evolutionary Anatomy』で、1990年にAcademic Press社から出版されました。

　本書が出版された、1990年以降、多くの古人類の新発見があり、内容は古くなっていますが、それでも、基本がしっかりと書かれており、大変、参考となります。古人類学の分野では、必読書です。
