この本は、南アフリカのウィットウォータースランド大学の歴史学者のフィリップ・ボナー（Philip BONNER）さん、考古学者のアマンダ・エスターフイセン（Amanda ESTERHUYSEN）さん、遺伝学者のトレフォー・ジェンキンス（Trefor JENKINS）さんによる編で、主に南アフリカの化石人類研究について書いたものです。原題は『A Search for Origins』で、直訳すると「起源の探究」となるでしょうか。副題には、「科学、歴史と南アフリカの人類の揺りかご」とあります。2008年に、ウィットウォータースランド大学出版から出版されました。
