台湾にある国立東華大学（花蓮市）へ出張。初めての訪台。ちょうど亜熱帯と熱帯の境界地域。寒冷地に適応した身としては、クラっとくる暑さ。

 

広大な東華大学キャンパス。1994年に開校された新しい大学で、環境科学研究においても勢いが感じられる。

職業柄長年染み付いた癖で堆積物を掘り起こしてしまう。そんな姿をAさんに撮られてしまう。

やはり、この地でも硫黄循環を垣間見ることができる。多様な微生物活動の結果だ。

訪問先の皆さんからの心温まる歓待を受け、復興航空にて帰国の途につく。

今年は、共同研究を実施するため、小島さんとともに、もう一度訪台する予定。
